(the silly season is here early this year. However, this might lead to a treatment for alcoholism down the line)

Swan song
As I've posted in the past my vision has been deteriorating for the past 3 years. It has now fallen off a cliff, so I'll no longer be posting, and if this is in ragtime, transpose.
I have greatly enjoyed being part of this community off and on since a link to the Top Ten Conservative Idiots at Buzzflash led me here in 2001. In a world and especially on an internet that seemed determined to drag us all down the right wing rabbit hole, DU showed me I wasn't alone, that I wasn't the crazy one. Or maybe I was, but their way is crazier.
I will miss you all, whether or not we agreed with each other.
Just keep fighting the good fight.

Reuters: FBI Finds "Scant" Evidence of Groups Planning Insurrection. Here's why this HURTS Trump
I can see them preparing the indictment and telling him it will drop in Septermber 2024 if he doesn't withdraw by then.
I can also see them letting it drop even if he does drop out, but not until after the 2024 election.
No one wants to set a precedent of an incoming administration going after an outgoing one, no matter what. The silly grounds for impeaching Clinton was over the Nixon near impeachment. Nasty vindictive people hold grudges forever.
How I stopped the Taliban from Closing my School
This is an oldie but a goodie from 2015 that explains a lot about why the Taliban aren't going to find people as compliant now as they were 20 years ago. I hope H. Clinton is wrong about a civil war there, I hope the Taliban have the brains to adapt.

Startling Discovery Suggests 40% of Wild Deer in The US Have Had The Coronavirus
The novel coronavirus appears to have somehow jumped from humans to wild deer in some parts of the United States.
In the northeast corner of the nation, a recent federal survey found neutralizing antibodies for SARS-CoV-2 in 40 percent of all white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) that were sampled.
In the state of Michigan alone, 67 percent of free-ranging deer showed immune markers for the coronavirus in their bloodwork

Anyone who thinks he can wait this out is sadly mistaken. There are now many animal reservoirs of this disease.
Wht Gramps is like that
This is a beautifully done, not terribly long video that shows the twisted upbringings that resulted in the late 60s and years beyond. It explains why 65% of us retreated into old time religion and following a bunch of rules while about 35% of us raised hell and put a board under it. It didn't matter what we did, by the mid 80s the economy had pretty much turned on us and we're all pretty grumpy about that, especially the bit about how Gens X, Y, Millennial, and Z are set up to do even worse than we did. It shouldn't happen like that.
Anyway, enjoy, the health and hygiene film clips are worth it.
First good simulation of the colappse of Champlain South
This is based on eyewitness accounts, not a painstaking forensic reconstruction (which will take months), but it's pretty good. It shows the sequence of events. Structural engineers will eventually report why it happened.

Last Meal of History's Most Famous 'Bog Body' Hints at Human Sacrifice
That's similar to what scientists found in the early 1950s, when the body was first unearthed in what is now modern Denmark. But unlike past analyses, this one has also noticed a few new ingredients, like the fatty proteins of fish as well as remnants of threshing waste, which comes from separating grain.
That's an intriguing discovery, as a recent analysis of another bog body, known as the Grauballe Man, has also turned up a surprisingly large quantity of threshing waste no noticed before.

I've always though this was a ritual killing because of the way the body was arranged. Criminals were bludgeoned, stabbed, and/or garroted and dumped face down, often with willow sticks making sure they wouldn't come back up. Tollund Man was arranged on his side in a fetal position, as though he was asleep.
I do rather cut to the chase on the threshing waste, though. It was most likely an indication of a very poor harvest, the waste added into the porridge to supply bulk to starving people. It would also explain his death and the reverent way his body was arranged.
