A good friend of mine who is one of the foremost and most learned portrayers of George Washington in the country posted this today:
He also understood that it is the obligation of the government to keep our national debt low and not to burden future generations with this current generations debt encumbrances.
From George Washington’s farewell address published in David C. Claypoole’s American Daily Advertiser on September 19, 1796:
“As a very important source of strength and security, cherish public credit.
One method of preserving it is to use it as sparingly as possible, avoiding occasions of expense by cultivating peace, but remembering also that timely disbursements to prepare for danger frequently prevent much greater disbursements to repel it, avoiding likewise the accumulation of debt, not only by shunning occasions of expense, but by vigorous exertion in time of peace to discharge the debts which unavoidable wars may have occasioned, not ungenerously throwing upon posterity the burden which we ourselves ought to bear.
The execution of these maxims belongs to your representatives, but it is necessary that public opinion should co-operate.

NYPD officer charged with spying on Tibetan immigrants for China

A New York City police officer has been charged with being an intelligence asset for the Chinese government, who agreed to spy on US supporters of the Tibetan independence movement.
Baimadajie Angwang, a naturalized US citizen from Tibet, worked since 2018 as an agent for the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in its effort to suppress the movement, according to a criminal complaint filed in Brooklyn federal court. It says he secretly worked for unnamed handlers from the Chinese consulate in New York.
There was no allegation that Angwang compromised national security or New York police department (NYPD) operations. Still, he was considered the definition of an insider threat, William Sweeney, the head of the FBI’s New York office, said in a statement.

Angwang, 33, was ordered to be held without bail at an initial court hearing on Monday.

Had lunch in Hotel St Hubert - Sainte Saturnin-les-Apt in the Luberon yesterday.
We just stumbled across the place. Turns out that it was featured in Floyd on France in 1987.
The restaurant has changed chefs since then, but the new chef is amazing.

David Sedaris captured the ethos of 'undecided' voters back in 2008. Still holds true.
To put them in perspective, I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. “Can I interest you in the chicken?” she asks. “Or would you prefer the platter of shit with bits of broken glass in it?”
To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked.
I mean, really, what’s to be confused about?

The last paragraphs are telling:

Ah, though, that’s where the broken glass comes in.
The cops totally fit the description - All the time.
And if they support the 'Thin Blue Line' bullshit, if they don't call out the 'bad apples', they are bad apples.
Serve and Protect? Serve their own interests and protect themselves.
I have no time for US cops. I used to give them the benefit of the doubt. No more. Until law enforcement changes, is completely reformed, and the structure is overturned, the US will continue to have endemic problems with LEO's.

As the expression goes - Fuck the police.
It's always something that I've gotten from knowing some cops - but even good ones tacitly
support the whole 'Thin Blue Line' bullshit.
I remember reading the Peter Maas biography of Frank Serpico in 1973 when I was 25. It made a great impression on me and gave me the view of police that I hold to this day.
The Knapp Commission did a lot of good, but didn't go far enough.
So much needs to be changed about American policing.
At this point, the only difference between the cops and the criminals are the uniforms.
