So, Dick Polman did a take on the debate - And as he says in the lede -

"I watched so that you didn't have to. Lucky you. This may be the first time I've used the word "feces."

Take him back to George Washington's words in his farewell address.

A good friend of mine who is one of the foremost and most learned portrayers of George Washington in the country posted this today:

George Washington well understood that paying taxes is a pain in the neck (and the purse) but that it is the CIVIC duty and responsibility of EVERY citizen.
He also understood that it is the obligation of the government to keep our national debt low and not to burden future generations with this current generations debt encumbrances.

From George Washington’s farewell address published in David C. Claypoole’s American Daily Advertiser on September 19, 1796:
“As a very important source of strength and security, cherish public credit.

One method of preserving it is to use it as sparingly as possible, avoiding occasions of expense by cultivating peace, but remembering also that timely disbursements to prepare for danger frequently prevent much greater disbursements to repel it, avoiding likewise the accumulation of debt, not only by shunning occasions of expense, but by vigorous exertion in time of peace to discharge the debts which unavoidable wars may have occasioned, not ungenerously throwing upon posterity the burden which we ourselves ought to bear.
The execution of these maxims belongs to your representatives, but it is necessary that public opinion should co-operate.

To facilitate to them the performance of their duty, it is essential that you should practically bear in mind that towards the payment of debts there must be revenue; that to have revenue there must be taxes; that no taxes can be devised which are not more or less inconvenient and unpleasant; that the intrinsic embarrassment, inseparable from the selection of the proper objects (which is always a choice of difficulties), ought to be a decisive motive for a candid construction of the conduct of the government in making it, and for a spirit of acquiescence in the measures for obtaining revenue, which the public exigencies may at any time dictate.”

Trump claims to pay millions in taxes. HE LIED.
During the 2016 presidential campaign, Republican candidate Trump promised he would eliminate the nation’s debt. Under Trump’s watch the national debt has Increased by $6.6 trillion. HE LIED.
Read Washington‘s words. He is rolling over in his tomb.

NYPD officer charged with spying on Tibetan immigrants for China

Source: The Guardian

A New York City police officer has been charged with being an intelligence asset for the Chinese government, who agreed to spy on US supporters of the Tibetan independence movement.

Baimadajie Angwang, a naturalized US citizen from Tibet, worked since 2018 as an agent for the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in its effort to suppress the movement, according to a criminal complaint filed in Brooklyn federal court. It says he secretly worked for unnamed handlers from the Chinese consulate in New York.

There was no allegation that Angwang compromised national security or New York police department (NYPD) operations. Still, he was considered the definition of an insider threat, William Sweeney, the head of the FBI’s New York office, said in a statement.

Angwang, 33, was ordered to be held without bail at an initial court hearing on Monday.

Had lunch in Hotel St Hubert - Sainte Saturnin-les-Apt in the Luberon yesterday.

We just stumbled across the place. Turns out that it was featured in Floyd on France in 1987.

The restaurant has changed chefs since then, but the new chef is amazing.

Looked at the website and they have this video up.

Great for getting a feel for Provence - And amazingly, though much has changed, much has remained the same.

David Sedaris captured the ethos of 'undecided' voters back in 2008. Still holds true.

To put them in perspective, I think of being on an airplane. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. “Can I interest you in the chicken?” she asks. “Or would you prefer the platter of shit with bits of broken glass in it?”

To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked.

I mean, really, what’s to be confused about?

The chicken or the platter of shit

The last paragraphs are telling:

I didn’t vote again until 1976, when I was nineteen and legally registered. Because I was at college out of state, I sent my ballot through the mail. The choice that year was between Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford. Most of my friends were going for Carter, but, as an art major, I identified myself as a maverick. “That means an original,” I told my roommate. “Someone who lets the chips fall where they may.” Because I made my own rules and didn’t give a damn what anyone else thought of them, I decided to write in the name of Jerry Brown, who, it was rumored, liked to smoke pot. This was an issue very close to my heart—too close, obviously, as it amounted to a complete waste. Still, though, it taught me a valuable lesson: calling yourself a maverick is a sure sign that you’re not one.

I wonder if, in the end, the undecideds aren’t the biggest pessimists of all. Here they could order the airline chicken, but, then again, hmm. “Isn’t that adding an extra step?” they ask themselves. “If it’s all going to be chewed up and swallowed, why not cut to the chase, and go with the platter of shit?”

Ah, though, that’s where the broken glass comes in.

The cops totally fit the description - All the time.

And if they support the 'Thin Blue Line' bullshit, if they don't call out the 'bad apples', they are bad apples.

Serve and Protect? Serve their own interests and protect themselves.

I have no time for US cops. I used to give them the benefit of the doubt. No more. Until law enforcement changes, is completely reformed, and the structure is overturned, the US will continue to have endemic problems with LEO's.

I posted this article earlier but it totally calls out 'cop culture' Confessions of a Former Bastard Cop.

As the expression goes - Fuck the police.

September 3, 2020

It's always something that I've gotten from knowing some cops - but even good ones tacitly

support the whole 'Thin Blue Line' bullshit.

I remember reading the Peter Maas biography of Frank Serpico in 1973 when I was 25. It made a great impression on me and gave me the view of police that I hold to this day.

The Knapp Commission did a lot of good, but didn't go far enough.

So much needs to be changed about American policing.

At this point, the only difference between the cops and the criminals are the uniforms.
