Make mine a Blue Sapphire g&t w/ a twist of lime, please!

I couldn't agree more with your comment. As others have pointed out, a similar phrase was applied to Sarah Palin in a DU thread, with no alerts/hides, let alone banning.

So it's OK around here to use that phrase on GOP women, but not on Dem. women? I have no doubt the admins, unencumbered by any statute of limitations, have the ability to track down the aforesaid anti-Palin post and ban that poster as well.

Puts me in mind of George Orwell's Animal Farm: “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.” How can anyone claiming to be a feminist, knowing that bit of DU history, continue to argue that the instant banning was not politically motivated to "get" one of Bernie Sanders most influential (at least in the DU world) supporters?

Not that there's anything wrong with being politically motivated - everyone on DU is, but own up to it.

Flash: "pearl clutching" is a misogynistic term!

One pro-HRC woman poster ridiculed me (also female) as a pearl clutcher for expressing concern over links between HRC's state department arms contracts and MIC companies "donating" to the Clinton Family Foundation.

The obvious inference is that it's hysterical women who clutch their pearls - that was the point of her insult. Fortunately, I'm a female who has scuba dived with sharks & into sunken Japanese ships from WWII in Truk Lagoon, climbed Mayan pyramids in Central America, and argued motions to hard-nosed federal judges, so I did not even bother to alert on her. But you know I do have 5 or 6 lovely strands of pearls I've inherited from my Mom and Grandmother - both of whom were lifelong, outspoken Democrats (the old-fashioned kind, who supported unions, not corporations), so I guess I was remiss in not alerting on a poster for hurling sexist insults at me and the other women in my family. I mean what she was really saying was that women who wear pearls are hysterics. What a nerve!

Quick! Someone get me my smelling salts!

Careful! You can use "stank" re Republicans only.

(sarcasm alert!)I didn't know what it meant so I looked it up on the interwebs and Urban Dictionary and hoo boy! It's a very b-a-a-a-a-a-a-d word, but only if it's used in reference to Democratic women, of course. Just reading the definitions gave me the vapors!

Sometimes it refers to women! (and sometimes to men, too)
Here's what Urban Dictionary says, and all good DUers are expected to memorize the Urban Dictionary, right?

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=stank
stank
1. (adj.) The quality of being whorish and/or trashy or the appearance of bearing said quality.
2. (adv.) Any instance where the aforementioned quality is displayed to the Nth degree.
3. (n.) A ghetto-fabulous greeting of sorts used by the intellectually and creatively impaired.
4. (adj.) Having an attitude that is particularly not cared for by the general population.
5. (adv.) Displaying the previously stated attitude.
1. Christina Aguilera is such a nasty stank ho' lately. What is her problem??
2. Did you see Christina Aguilera's new video? Ugh! It was rather stank...I almost hurled!
3. Wazzup Stank? What ya'll gettin' into today?
4. That stank bidge just cussed my mama out!
5. I can't stand that gum-smackin' trick. She is so stank sometimes I just can't even believe it!

Sarcasm aside, it feels like those of us who support Sanders are limited to Father Knows Best or Leave It To Beaver levels of dialogue. Oh, Damn! saying Father knows best is sexist, and then I used the word Beaver. And me a woman lawyer who at one time taught in the Women's Studies program at Pitt!

Mea culpa!

See my reply # 54, re woman staying with serially cheating husbands.

I'm in HRC's age bracket, and active in various civic, political and social organizations. There are too many women in that income/age bracket (but without HRC's education and earning potential as a person with an Ivy law degree) who know their husbands have cheated on them, but no way would they give up their lifestyles. They seem to see Hillary as the patron saint of cheated-on wives. And they console themselves that at least their husbands had the class to keep their affairs on the down low.

June 4, 2015

Nobody's referred to her with the term "c@nt" but YOU!

And of course you can't deny the truth of my post. You have no concern for a 12 year old rape victim? Some might call that misogynistic. You can't admit to me or yourself that this was a despicable chapter in HRC's life.

I'm glad to say I don't hate Hillary. Hatred eats away at the soul. And I don't bring hatred to the table. I do bring cold, hard, documented facts to the debate. And I do love the truth. And progressive values. And as a female attorney of HRC's generation, I cannot for the life of me understand a female attorney volunteering to give a pro bono defense to a man she believed to be a rapist. If you have no concern for that, I suggest you look into your heart.

I have a lot of pity for her. She could have done so much with her life on her own - given all her education and ability - if she had had the self-respect and courage to leave a serially adulterous husband. Her choice to stay, of course. But I do not respect her for it. She's gone through a hell of national and international humiliation being his wife, but it was always her choice.

This commenter on a Salon article stated what HRC might have done with her life:
http://www.salon.com/2015/06/02/the_beltways_clinton_derangement_syndrome_what_i_saw_inside_a_hillary_campaign_briefing/#comments

She might have been laboring as a government lawyer after concluding her gig with the Nixon impeachement staff. As a Yale law graduate, she could have easily scored a gig a a top New York, DC or Chicago firm, and be comfortably retired now after earning seven figures for quite a while. Or, she could have decided to work in the legal department of a human rights or environmental cause.

Instead, she married a brilliant kid from nowhere and moved to the middle of nowhere, where he was elected governor of a nothing state. One presumes that she read Gloria Steinem and Betty Friedan and all the seminal feminist authors, but rather than go out on her own, she chose to stand by her man and be serially humiliated. She worked at the best law firm in Podunk, Arkansas.

This is a person whose whole public persona is an oxymoron: a supposed feminist icon who stuck by her abusive man as a barefoot pregnant high school dropout might, rationalizing that the end was worth the means; a supposed leader and independent woman whose life's total accomplishments are due to being married to said abusive man; a supposed champion of the little guy who hobnobs with billionaires and thinks she "earns" more for a 60 minute speech than four middle class Americans do in a year.

Wow - some biting comments with that article

If you're gonna link to an article, you are also linking to the comments published with same. So don't shoot the messenger, folks! As the trial judge says to the objecting attorney, "Overruled. You opened the door, counselor!" All of these are from the OP's link:

The piece is essentially an example of a political hack already in the tank making apologies for her candidate as well as the increasingly surreal campaign being planned by the candidate's handlers.

It seems, Joan Walsh. that you suspended all critical reasoning powers when you attended that "briefing." You "learned" all these things from Ms. Clinton's highly paid consultants, but you didn't actually do the job of a reporter and question what you were being told, even though the Clinton machine has historically been a lie factory.
They told you that the Clinton Cash revelations have not hurt her in the polls and you believed it! But the latest ABC and CNN polls show that 58% of Americans now regard Clinton as dishonest, and her match-poll numbers against Rand Paul have dropped a whopping 18 points since April.
Clinton cannot win in 2016.

Five Salon articles in two days on how the press is being unfair to poor HRC - supporter of domestic spying, co-author of the devastating TPP.
Number of articles on Obama signing off on the Patriot/Freedom Act's outrageous spying powers?

I'll never forget a story I heard a few years back about Hillary regarding her time as First Lady of Arkansas. She was attending a Razorbacks game with a close friend when an elderly lady approached them and handed Hillary a gift - it was a pair of Razorback homemade earrings. (I'm sure they were a bit kitschy but...)The elderly lady carried on how she made them especially for Hillary, how she loved both Bill and Hillary and was so lucky to see Hillary at the game so she could gift them in person. While the woman was still present, Hillary turned to her friend and said "See what crap I have to put up with everyday in this state?" Apparently, Hillary was quite the consummate elitist even back then, surely embarrassed to be First Lady of such a backwoods "holler" Just imagine what that poor elderly woman thought. Hillary is as cold and calculating as they come. Voters, don't do it, please do not put this woman and her slimy husband anywhere close to 16 Pennsylvania Avenue

Hillary's campaign will collapse the day she actually speaks to people unscripted, and outside the bubble of sycophantic handlers.

"DNC uses Bernie Sanders to hit new low in sleazy, misleading grab for $$$"

DNC uses Bernie Sanders to hit new low in sleazy, misleading grab for $$$$
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/05/01/1381733/-DNC-uses-Bernie-Sanders-to-hit-new-low-in-sleazy-misleading-request-for#

I was greeted by an email this morning that is copied below, exactly as it appeared in my inbox, including the blaring typography and the large chunk of white space towards the bottom, requiring that you scroll down to find the fine print. Does anyone believe that even one penny of the $$$$ raised by this grab for cash by the DNC will go to Bernie's campaign?

But SURELY, this must have been done with Bernie's blessing, right?

Of course not. If you're not in a rush and you have your reading glasses on and scroll down to find and read the fine print at the bottom of the email or the box at the bottom of the web page, you'll see that this was "not authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee". But the DNC is clearly counting on the fact that many people will be so thrilled that Bernie is running, that they will quickly send off a contribution without bothering to consider the fine print. We're all so used to the boilerplate that it's very easy to ignore it.

This is especially disgusting, given that one of Bernie's passions and major goals in running for the presidency is to work to get the money out of politics. (Notice that the DNC chose not to include this goal in the list of his priorities in the email.)

Some interesting comments to the above article:

"If the DNC was at all serious about helping Bernie, they would have linked to Bernie's campaign website."
and

"We get pictures of Bernie Sanders to deceptively solicit funds to be spent on people who will work diligently to undermine Bernie Sanders. I guess that's payback for Bernie horning in on their neatly-laid-out plans for a coronation of the status quo candidates they prefer. Republican gerrymandering works out awfully well for certain key people who care more about access and favors than good governance or actually winning elections to improve the lives of Americans."

No way in hell Bernie supports a "stronger DNC" as it currently operates.

It would be fair to state that all true progressive Democrats, including "Bernie and his supporters" would like to see the augean stable known as Debbie Wasserman's DNC swept clean of it's wheeling/dealing - but pray tell, do tell us how sending money to the pro-Clinton DNC during the primary season would benefit Sanders one red cent!

And/or do provide any, I repeat ANY link quoting Bernie as pro DNC.

Delegate Battles Snarl Democrats in Two States

By MICHAEL LUO and JOHN M. BRODER

Democrats in Michigan and Florida struggled Friday to resolve the impasse over their disputed January primaries, coming up with a plan to hold a June primary in Michigan while remaining deadlocked in Florida.

Reflecting how tense the situation has become, influential fund-raisers for Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton have stepped up their behind-the-scenes pressure on national party leaders to resolve the matter, with some even threatening to withhold their donations to the Democratic National Committee unless it seats the delegates from the two states or holds new primaries there.

Pushing to seat the Florida delegates, at least one top Clinton fund-raiser, Paul Cejas, a Miami businessman who has given the Democratic National Committee $63,500 since 2003, has demanded Democratic officials return his 2007 contribution of $28,500, which they have agreed to do. “If you’re not going to count my vote, I’m not going to give you my money,” said Mr. Cejas, who was the United States ambassador to Belgium from 1998 to 2001.

Christopher Korge, a Florida real estate developer who is another top fund-raiser for Mrs. Clinton, held an event last year in his home that brought in about $140,000 for the national party, which was set aside in a special account for the general election battle in Florida. But he told committee officials this week that if Florida’s delegate conundrum was not settled satisfactorily he would be asking for the money back. “If we do not resolve this issue,” Mr. Korge said, “I think it’s safe to say there will be a request for a return of $140,000.”

Hillary urging donors to blackmail DNC into stealing the election for her

I’m really getting sick of Hillary’s crap. Fighting tough is welcome. Fighting dirty is not. I liked Hillary. Joe and I reached out to her campaign to help them two years ago. Now, I’m starting to wonder if even a small portion of the past vilification of the Clintons wasn’t justified. I mean, urging your donors, for all intents and purposes, to blackmail the Democratic party? In essence, telling your donors that if you can’t be the nominee then the Democrats should lose the election? (And that’s exactly what’s happening. Hillary wants the DNC to seat the delegates from the non-election that happened in Florida after the state willfully violated DNC rules, knowing full well what would happen if they did. Now Hillary wants all those delegates seated, from the non-election, so she can steal the election from Obama). Is it any wonder that 25% of Hillary’s supporters say they won’t support Obama in the general election? Hillary is the one telling them that they shouldn’t support Obama, that they shouldn’t support their own party. Howard Dean should tell Hillary Lieberman stop her crap, now, or resign from the Democratic party. Contrary to Her Majesty’s thinking, there are other Democrats worthy of leading our country. Fundraising assistance flouts DNC's own presidential primary neutrality rules.

‘Impartial’ DNC finance chief helps Hillary Clinton
DNC rules, designed to ensure all candidates get a fair shake in presidential primaries, state: “The Chairperson shall be responsible for ensuring that the national officers and staff of the Democratic National Committee maintain impartiality and even-handedness during the Democratic Party Presidential nominating process.

And don't try to duck and dodge the subject matter by trashing Politico or its reporter of this story as a source.

If in fact you ARE a Sanders supporter, you will just love this piece Ben Schreckinger/Politico did on Bernie:

In 1988, toward the end of Sanders’ four-term tenure — long after a local Democratic leader predicted the movement that swept Sanders into office would be gone in a decade — the U.S. Conference of Mayors named Burlington the most livable city in the country with a population of under 100,000 (in a tie). Then Sanders’ director of community and economic development succeeded him in the mayor’s office and Inc. Magazine named Burlington the best city in the Northeast for a growing business.

And what about the guy who told UPI “Everyone’s scared” when the Lenin of Lake Champlain first stormed to power in 1981? That was the state’s then-Democratic Party chairman, Mark Kaplan. Today, he’s on board with a socialist in the White House.

“I actually donated to him,” said Kaplan. “I’m kind of excited about it.”
