Michigan Republican Doesn’t Know How Condoms Work, Thinks Sex Ed Is A Ploy To Cause Unwanted Pregnancies

Just when you thought Republicans couldn’t get any more stupid, this former high school teacher steps up to the plate.
As any person with common sense knows, condoms are used to prevent pregnancy, especially when combined with female contraception or spermicide. In other words, no unwanted or unplanned pregnancies equal no abortions.
But a Michigan Republican thinks comprehensive sex education is a scheme by Planned Parenthood to cause more unwanted pregnancies so that they can profit more from abortions, which only account for a measly three percent of the total services offered by the health organization.
Michigan state GOP Rep. Tom Hooker is one the dupes who actually belief the heavily edited Planned Parenthood videos are totally real and not faked at all, so he thinks allowing Planned Parenthood to offer sex education in schools should be banned in favor of the failed conservative policy known as “abstinence only” education. He also claims it’s a conflict of interest for Planned Parenthood to offer abortion services while selling male and female contraception at the same time.

“There’s a perverse incentive for an organization like Planned Parenthood to get into the sex education business. It’s a conflict in that they give out or sell condoms, they offer pregnancy tests and (sexually-transmitted disease) testing and, obviously, if they’re pregnant they then would offer an abortion. It just seems like an awfully comfortable arrangement for Planned Parenthood to teach sex education.”
