New poll shows that Black voters really aren’t ‘Feeling the Bern’

snip//

For example, much has been made of Sanders’s popularity with younger voters, and Clinton’s struggles to connect with millennials. Among black voters age 18-29, the gap between Sanders and Clinton is indeed narrower. But younger black voters still rate Clinton more favorably than Sanders:

Perhaps most troublesome for Sanders, however, is the ambivalence toward him expressed by black women. Black women comprise a disproportionate segment of the black electorate — due in part to laws in some states preventing ex-felons, many of them black men, from voting.

According to the U.S. Census, turnout among black women in 2012 was almost nine percentage points higher than turnout among black men — a gender gap larger than the gender gap among Hispanics, Asians, and non-Hispanic whites. Moreover, black women tend to vote for Democrats at even higher rates than black men.

In other words, a Democratic victory in the general election requires enthusiastic support from black women, and black women are significantly more enthusiastic about Clinton than Sanders.

Excellent!

Blacks outvoted whites in 2012, the first time on record

According to CNN exit polls, 93% of African-Americans, 71% of Hispanics and 73% of Asians supported Obama over Romney.

And, now he's jealous of SOS Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama's friendship.

Nothing's too demeaning for this guy.

When this is all over we should definitely revisit all the insults he hurled at Hillary while desperately trying to catch up to her.

"What he’s really saying here is that President Obama and Hillary Clinton don’t have a genuine bond of affection and respect. That the woman who served as his Secretary of State isn’t really his friend, she’s cynically using him like a chess piece to attract black voters."

Barbara Morrill ??@BarbinMD
That's insulting to Clinton, Obama and AA voters. Quite the trifecta there, Bernie. https://twitter.com/ABCLiz/status/700435385856331776

"The vagina and uterus swipes have got to stop: Killer Mike’s “uterus” comment about Hillary hurts

All Women."

Saying "a uterus doesn’t qualify you to be" prez calls all women's achievements into question, not just Clinton's

You don’t have to like Hillary Clinton, but it’s simply and demonstrably untrue that she has never accomplished anything in her life but growing a uterus. This should seem obvious, and yet these body part-obsessed accusations of female unworthiness have become a standard issue Bernie Bro jab on social media. And now the has-a-vagina-but-nothing-else-to-offer claim has been elevated to the actual Bernie Sanders campaign, courtesy of rapper Killer Mike.

At a campaign event for Sanders, Killer Mike made a lengthy speech where he casually argued that “a uterus doesn’t qualify you to be president of the United States.” It’s something that female Clinton supporters get to hear every day, especially if they dare poke their heads out on Twitter or Facebook, and it continues to be a confirmation of nothing but the sexism of the person spouting this stupid line.

It’s really a double-edged sword of sexist cruelty, both reducing Clinton to her gender and insulting the intelligence of the woman on the receiving end of this slur by assuming that she, being some dumb broad, just mechanically sees another lady and goes, “Me vote lady!”

It’s such a dumb swipe that it’s impossible to believe anyone who levels this accusation could actually mean it. Surely the vagina-accusing masses realize that Clinton supporters do not, for instance, support female politicians like Sarah Palin or Carly Fiorina. The sheer self-refuting stupidity of this insult is no doubt why Sanders himself is careful to avoid saying anything like this, instead making a point that he’s fully aware that Clinton is an accomplished politician who has a lot to recommend her besides her gender.

end snip//

But the vagina and uterus swipes at Clinton have got to stop. Fine, if you want to hurt her, it’s petty and childish and illogical, but go ahead, have at it. She’s a politician and she can take it. Taking people’s uncalled-for vitriol is part of the job.

But the sexism isn’t just about hurting Clinton. When you accuse Clinton of having no value outside of a vagina and a uterus, that hurts all women.

Bernie Sanders In 2013: 'I'm Not Obama's Biggest Fan'

President Barack Obama has tried his best to be diplomatic about which candidate in the Democratic presidential primary he thinks hews closer to his agenda. But at a press conference on Tuesday, he tipped his hand a bit.

Speaking in southern California, Obama made the now-rote point that the differences between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are far narrower than those between Democrats and Republicans. But he added that he knows Clinton better (from her time as secretary of state) and suspects that "on certain issues, she agrees with me more than Bernie does."

snip//

And that gets to a larger point. Veterans of this White House don't feel particularly invested in boosting Sanders. They feel that way because the Vermont senator wasn't always there to boost them.

The latest evidence of that was passed along to The Huffington Post at the same time that Obama was speaking. It's a video from an April 2013 episode of "Real Time with Bill Maher" on which Sanders was a guest.

snip//

But it was the language that Sanders used to make his point to Maher -- "I'm not Obama's biggest fan" and "I'm critical of many aspects" -- that rankled White House aides. And in a Democratic primary where fidelity to Obama is proving to be a big asset, that is language that could come back to haunt him.

Hillary didn't want to have President Obama primaried in 2012, either. The President chose her as his SOS and said it was one of the best decisions he's ever made.
