Major environmental group makes first ever endorsement of Hillary Clinton

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2016/05/31/major-environmental-group-makes-first-ever-endorsement-of-hillary-clinton/

By Abby Phillip May 31 at 6:30 AM

A major environmental group, the NRDC Action Fund, will endorse Hillary Clinton on Tuesday in its first-ever political endorsement in a presidential election.

In a statement, the NRDC Action Fund, a political affiliate of the Natural Resources Defense Council, said that the unprecedented endorsement is reflective of the need for left-leaning groups to unite against Donald Trump, the likely Republican nominee.

“Hillary Clinton is an environmental champion with the passion, experience and savvy to build on President Obama’s environmental legacy,” Rhea Suh, president of the NRDC Action Fund, said in a statement. “More than any other candidate running, Hillary Clinton understands the environmental challenges America faces, and her approach to solving them is grounded in the possibility and promise our democracy affords us.”...

The endorsement is a blow to Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, who hopes to upset Clinton next week in the Democratic primary in California, a state where environmental issues loom large.

The NRCD Action Fund's move to endorse Clinton comes at a critical time for her as she seeks to dispatch with Sanders and pivot to a general election fight against Donald Trump. Clinton may also be facing a tougher-than-expected challenge from Sanders in California. Her campaign announced on Monday that she would spend more time than originally planned campaigning in the state this week.

You may write me down in history

With your bitter, twisted lies,

You may tread me in the very dirt

But still, like dust, I'll rise.

This is not the first time you have seen Hillary Clinton seemingly at her wits' end, but she has always risen, always risen, don't forget she has always risen, much to the dismay of her adversaries and the delight of her friends.

Hillary Clinton will not give up on you and all she asks of you is that you do not give up on her.

There is a world of difference between being a woman and being an old female. If you're born a girl, grow up, and live long enough, you can become an old female. But to become a woman is a serious matter. A woman takes responsibility for the time she takes up and the space she occupies. Hillary Clinton is a woman. She has been there and done that and has still risen. She is in this race for the long haul. She intends to make a difference in our country. Hillary Clinton intends to help our country to be what it can become.

She declares she wants to see more smiles in the family, more courtesies between men and women, more honesty in the marketplace. She is the prayer of every woman and man who longs for fair play, healthy families, good schools, and a balanced economy.

She means to rise.

Don't give up on Hillary. In fact, if you help her to rise, you will rise with her and help her make this country the wonderful, wonderful place where every man and every woman can live freely without sanctimonious piety and without crippling fear.

Rise, Hillary.

Rise.

Hillary Clinton marches in hometown Memorial Day parade

NEW CASTLE, N.Y. — Hillary Clinton marched in the New Castle Memorial Day parade on Monday morning, an event that has become an annual tradition in the town that she and former president Bill Clinton now call their home.

The hamlet of Chappaqua welcomed Clinton, the former president and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo with signs and cheers as they walked briskly through town on a muggy and gray day.

“Love it!” Clinton told a woman who asked whether she was enjoying being a part of the quaint festivities. “It's my favorite parade."

The bagpipes played and the band marched. Children in soccer jerseys waited on the sidewalks waving American flags. Teens scrambled to snap selfies as the former first family walked by.

Clinton teeters on brink of nomination with superdelegates

Clinton teeters on brink of nomination with superdelegates
Hope Yen, Associated Press Updated 1:35 am, Wednesday, May 25, 2016

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Clinton is closing in fast on the Democratic presidential nomination with the help of superdelegates.

After losing three of four state contests in May, Clinton has maintained a lead over Bernie Sanders of 271 pledged delegates won in primaries and caucuses.

She also continues to pick up much more support from superdelegates, the party leaders who can back any candidate of their choice, dampening Sanders' chances further even as he insists he can win them over later this summer. In the last week, Clinton picked up 12 new superdelegate endorsements while Sanders netted two, according to an Associated Press survey.

When including superdelegates, Clinton's lead grows to 2,305, or 97 percent of the 2,383 delegates needed to win the nomination.
The Democratic primaries are now in a two-week break. They resume in the Virgin Islands on June 4 and Puerto Rico on June 5, with 67 delegates at stake.
Just 78 delegates short, Clinton remains on a glide path to reaching 2,383 on June 7 after polls close at 8 p.m. EDT in New Jersey.

Failure of Burlington College is a big problem for Bernie and Jane Sanders

Failure of Burlington College is a big problem for Bernie and Jane Sanders

By James Hohmann May 17 THE BIG IDEA: Burlington College is feeling the burn.

Bernie Sanders is huge on college campuses—or yuuuuge, as he likes to say—but the small private school in Vermont that his wife, Jane, ran for seven years announced yesterday that it will shutter because of “the crushing weight” of debt incurred under her leadership.

Burlington College said its financial troubles are connected to Mrs. Sanders’s 2010 purchase of 32 acres of lakefront property, part of a botched expansion plan. The college was placed on academic probation in 2014 by its accrediting agency and it faced cash flow problems due to the imminent loss of a line of credit, The Post’s Nick Anderson reports. To survive, the school has tried to sell land but it was not enough to remain solvent.

Jane Sanders was president from 2004 until 2011, when she stepped down amid an apparent dispute with the college’s board. She left with a $200,000 severance package.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/paloma/daily-202/2016/05/17/daily-202-failure-of-burlington-college-is-a-big-problem-for-bernie-and-jane-sanders/573a388c981b92a22d837b46/?tid=hybrid_collaborative_1_na--

The Sanders campaign has ignored repeated requests for comment on Burlington College’s failure. The uncharacteristic silence is telling.

Hillary Clinton is now ahead of Donald Trump in revised Rasmussen poll..

Hillary Clinton is now ahead of Donald Trump in revised Rasmussen poll, but will anyone report it?
By Bill Palmer | May 28, 2016 |

For the past week, cable news has been nearly obsessed with the May 18th Rasmussen poll which placed Donald Trump five points ahead of Hillary Clinton in early nationwide general election polling. The media largely failed to mention that this was an outlier poll standing in contrast with the majority of national polls, which instead showed Clinton slightly ahead of Trump. One false narrative after another was constructed as to why Hillary was suddenly “falling behind” when that hadn’t actually happened. Now that narrative is in even more trouble, as this week’s newly revised Rasmussen poll now has Clinton ahead.

So what changed? That’s not entirely clear. The official statement from Rasmussen Reports acknowledges the six point swing in a six day period, but doesn’t attempt to explain the shift. The margin of error for the poll is plus or minus three points, meaning the six point differential can just barely be explained away based on statistics rather than sentiment.
