I've been here for just as long.

I wish I felt the same way. My impression is that DU has become very insular over time. Discussion is scuttled and evidence does not matter like it did when it first began. The vehement who do not care about evidence scare away those who do care about evidence, and far too many DUers stand on the sidelines allowing the anti-evidence crowd to take over, because they don't want to deal with conflict, and with ugly attacks.

It's nice to pretend that things are different than they are, but they're not.

I wish things were different. This place had a lot of promise, but the promise has dissolved.

Don’t Silence Science: An Open Letter

http://www.biofortified.org/2014/11/dont-silence-science-an-appeal/

"Today, we have an unfortunate announcement to make. For about one month, Biology Fortified has been the target of an ongoing Denial of Service attack, which is trying to keep our sites offline. We have prepared a video announcement to tell you more about it, and to make an appeal to the attacker for them to stop trying to take down our site. We are seeking the support of our readers and everyone else who agrees that this kind of attack has no place in debates about science.

The attacker is primarily using POST floods and SYN floods to overload our server and block legitimate traffic.

Both our main site at www.biofortified.org and the GENERA project at genera.biofortified.org have been targeted. Other subdomains that have not been publicly named have not been targeted.

Several other IP addresses are engaging in Brute Force hacking attacks to try to get administrative access to our sites, which may or may not be coming from the same attacker(s).

Yet again, the anti-science, anti-GMO, anti-information crowd is attempting to burn the fields, so to speak. I've donated. If anyone else is willing to do so, please do.
