Anyone else watching The Rig on Prime?

I'm through 4 of 6 episodes and enjoying it okay. It's another ecological parable but with a good cast.

Tense moments for those that have worked in the petroleum industry.

George Santos' Sister Facing Eviction For Unpaid Rent Of $40,000

Source: Crooks & Liars

According to a court filing, Tiffany Santos has not paid rent in years and owes nearly $40k in back rent. However, she found time to contribute $5000 to her brother's campaign. And she received more than $30,000 in federal emergency rental assistance during COVID. Oh, and George Santos has consistently listed as his address on federal campaign finance loans her address in Queens, despite being registered to vote at another address. Confused yet? You're not the only one.

Scamming, grifting, etc seems to be in the family DNA.

Rep.-elect George Santos’ sister reportedly skipped years of rent on the Queens apartment the siblings once shared — but still managed in that time to dish out tens of thousands of dollars in political contributions, including $5,000 to her lying brother’s campaign.

Court records show that Tiffany Santos is facing eviction from the Elmhurst apartment for failing to pay nearly $40,000 in rent since August 2020, the Daily Beastt first reported on Thursday.

Rep. Tim Burchett said colleague Rep. Mike Rogers is a 'redneck' who 'shouldn't be drinking' following House floor brawl

Republican Rep. Tim Burchett called his colleague Rep. Mike Rogers a "redneck" and suggested that he had been drinking before he got into a brawl on the House floor late on Friday.

C-SPAN cameras captured Rep. Rogers of Alabama lunging at Rep. Matt Gaetz and being restrained by Rep. Richard Hudson, after Gaetz had what appeared to be a tense exchange with Kevin McCarthy.

"People shouldn't be drinking, especially when you're a redneck, on the House floor," Rep. Burchett told CNN's Kate Sullivan about the incident.

He did not provide evidence or elaborate on why he believed Rogers had been drinking prior to the incident.

Ohio man, jailed for fake Facebook page, asks SCOTUS to let him sue police

PARMA, Ohio -- The parking lot arrest in 2016 stunned Anthony Novak as much as the charge: alleged disruption of law enforcement operations for making a parody of his local police department's page on Facebook.

"They said, 'put your hands behind your back.' They said, 'fake Parma Facebook page,'" Novak recounted to ABC News of the moment Parma police officers took him into custody outside a neighborhood convenience store in 2016.

Novak, 33, went on to spend four days in jail. A local jury later acquitted him of any wrongdoing. Now, he's trying to sue the police for alleged violation of his civil rights. A federal appeals court earlier this year acknowledged "difficult questions" in the case, but said the officers were protected by qualified immunity and dismissed Novak's claims.

Next month, the U.S. Supreme Court is set to decide whether to take up his appeal.

2 years after Jan. 6, speaker scrap freezes Congress again

Source: AP

Such are the fractures in the country, between the political parties and inside the Republican Party itself, that one time-honored specialty of Washington — memorializing and coming together over national trauma — isn’t what it used to be.

Friday morning’s moment of silence at the Capitol to contemplate the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on it drew mostly Democrats, with brief remarks from Democratic leaders new and incoming — Reps. Nancy Pelosi and Hakeem Jeffries — and none from the GOP.

The event was focused on the Capitol Police officers who protected the building that day, and families of law enforcement officers who died after the riot. Jeffries said 140 officers were seriously injured that day and “many more will forever be scarred by the bloodthirsty violence of the insurrectionist mob. We stand here today with our democracy intact because of those officers.”

At the White House, few Republicans were expected for a ceremony at which President Joe Biden will award Presidential Citizens Medals to a dozen state and local officials, election workers and police officers for their “exemplary deeds of service for their country or their fellow citizens” in upholding the results of the 2020 election and fighting back the Capitol mob. /Snip

Black reporter for Wall Street Journal detained outside a Chase Bank in Phoenix while conducting interviews

The Wall Street Journal is urging Phoenix police to investigate after one of its Black reporters was handcuffed and detained while working on an assignment on the city’s north side.

Phoenix police officials told NBC News on Thursday that the department has agreed to a probe after Editor-in-Chief Matt Murray wrote a letter dated Dec. 7 to Phoenix Police Chief Michael Sullivan “expressing concerns” regarding the incident. On Nov. 23, Dion Rabouin, who covers finance for the Wall Street Journal, was detained in a police car while conducting interviews outside a Chase Bank. An officer accused the reporter of trespassing and took him into custody.

“We’re deeply concerned that Wall Street Journal reporter Dion Rabouin was detained, handcuffed and placed in the back of a police vehicle while reporting,” a Journal spokesperson said in a statement. “No journalist should ever be detained simply for exercising their First Amendment rights.”

Rabouin was interviewing passersby for a story about savings accounts when a pair of employees walked up to him, asked what he was doing and went back inside, he told ABC affiliate KNXV. He said the employees did not ask him to leave. Soon, Police Officer Caleb Zimmerman approached and told Rabouin he was trespassing, he said.  /SNIP

1923. Just watched episode 3 and saw Helen Mirren earn an Emmy. (Spoiler Free)

For my tastes great writing, acting sets and wardrobe. Packs an emotional punch.

If you are a fan of superhero movies you might find this a tad slow as there isn't an explosion every three minutes.

It's not perfect but I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far.

Violent Night is a hoot and a bit of a surprise.

Wasn't what I was expecting but it was, violent, funny, sweet, caustic, tongue-in-cheek and lots of fun.
