https://themoth.org/radio-hour...Today I tuned in late and go the story of a kid, Huwe Burton, who, at 16, was wrongly convicted of killing his mother. His father stood by him for all the years of trial and imprisonment and finally went home to Jamaica to take care of his ailing mother.
Father came back, but during the last visit it was clear had Alzheimer's and ended up dying a month or so before the case was thrown out and the Huwe Burton was released and exonerated.
Huwe himself narrates, and it is heart-wrenching.
I was at one of the PO demonstrations today and one person told me about her coworker...
who had dual citizenship and wanted to see her dying mother in France. She could get to France on her French passport, but was afraid she might not be able to get back.
All my life the world has been getting smaller and more open and friendly, and now in my declining years it has come to this. For absolutely no good reason a woman cannot see her dying mother. Kids in cages, trade wars, families disrupted, students finding promises broken...
And in the "greatest nation in the world" homelessness, unemployment, starvation, and Hoovervilles again.

Seminar yesterday on new voting rules, and this one will be fun...
Everyone has an absolute right to vote.
Everyone also has a right to a healthy polling place.
So, if some asshole refuses to wear a mask or keep a proper distance, said asshole will e kept out of the facility until it is clear (everyone else in line before him or her voted and left). Then he or she is allowed in and votes. And only he or she-- everyone else waits outside.
When said asshole is finished, it will leave and the rest of the line proceeds as usual.
Disinfecting after said asshole? Kinda left up in the air, but probably should be done.
We are not to touch the asshole, or argue with it excessively, but there will be increased police presence.

As I get older, I like it quieter. Usually when you get older your ears start to wear out, but I think that's only to help you avoid noise.
Every time some asshole on a Harley goes through here, I have fantasies if shotguns and piano wire across the road. Or razor wire.
Anyway, it's 3:45AM and some asshole is playing Spanish music in the 7-11 parking lot. Loudly. Loudly enough to bust his own eardrums, making it necessary to turn it up even more.

About that SS tax cut...
Aside from the fiscal mismanagement SS and Medicare taxes are split between employee and employer-- each paying half. Everyone knew that, right?
That half is 6.2% for Social Security and 1.45% for Medicare, with a few small adjustments here and there.
Sooo...
In cash money, employers get the biggest chunk of change and we get shit. If you make the median income (call it $65,000 because it moves a lot) you will pay almost $5,000. Your employer will get $5,000 x No of employees. (OK, not really because not everyone makes the 65 grand-- but you get the point)
Self employed get the big break because they pay the whole thing, so yer median self employed could get the whole 10 grand back.
Sounds good, sort of, but first you have to be back to work to owe the taxes you won't have to pay. Then, of course, you have to make up the funding.
Oh, and "median" means half over and half under, so more than half the people won't even see that 5 grand.
And that's all if they get the whole thing back. And it's not just a loan pushing the tax to some time in the future.
