Joe Biden is right. Bernie supporters worked hard, let them be frustrated for a little while longer.

I thought Joe Biden hit the right note.

Why does the MSM have a hard on for Hillary?

I was so inspired and refreshed by the convention last night. I went to bed feeling so up about Hillary. I felt like nearly all of the speakers hit the mark and I felt like I know her better today than I did yesterday.

I got up this morning and started flipping around to see what the morning shows were saying. CNN was OK, CBS? MSNBC? They must have been at some other convention. All they could do was pick apart the speeches and speculate that POSSIBLY Wikileaks has more to reveal and how that would hurt Clinton.

WTF?? I didn't watch the GOP convention coverage, did they do that to Donald??

My 85 year old mother just told me how thrilled she is

that she lived to see a black man be President and, God willing, she will see a woman President.

That was pretty cool.

Do we need hard core Bernie supporters?

Everybody keeps saying we need to get the Bernie supporters on board.

Do we? Really? Do we need them?

Cause I am feeling NOT.

What is the job of the DNC?

I read on FB someone who was saying that the DNC support of Hillary is illegal and there should be charges filed. That doesn't sound right to me. I thought the committees were essentially clubs that we join to support our political candidates from. They can pretty much do what they want, can't they? Isn't that what the whole super delegate thing is? The way they can make sure their guy gets in no matter what we do?

So, i started actively supporting Hillary and...

I swear, I get more push back from Dems than I do from Republicans.

I am sorry, I know there is a wealth of information here and I could find what I need to know with some research. I tried google, but I am not finding why DEMS keep calling her corrupt. I got all the Whitewater/Benghazi/email BS, but only from hard right sites. And most of that is just crap. That shouldn't affect Dems, right?

Can somebody please give me a brief primer on why Dems would say Hillary is corrrupt and do it without snark? I am trying to defend my choices to friends who seem to feel adamantly, though vaguely, that she is just icky. Which is weird to me, cause I didn't think there was anything ickier than Donald Trump.

I am really not trying to start a war here. I am basically a farmer who gets up at 6 am and works their ass off all day. I am already 20 minutes past my bedtime and exhausted and just trying to figure this all out.

I am going to start actively supporting Hillary.

She was not my first choice. She was not even my second choice. I am not a Hillary Hater, I just couldn't get excited about her. My main issue is inequality and I felt other people spoke to that more eloquently than she.

But there are worse things than Hillary Clinton and the GOP is nominating one of them.

So I am moving on and going to actively support Hillary. I can't throw my vote away this year in a grand gesture. I would ask anyone thinking of doing so to really consider the consequences. A Hillary Presidency may not suit your political aesthetic; a Donald Presidency would likely be an unmitigated disaster for all of us.

My Open Letter to Trump Supporters.....that lost me a few friends

So, folks, here's the deal: You can support Donald Trump. This is America and you can support any sociopathic, lying, hate filled, violent misogynist that tickles your fancy. But you have to stop considering yourself honorable or decent. Cause this is life and you don't get to have it both ways. You can fool yourself into thinking you can...but you can't. Supporting Donald Trump is a choice. And by our choices we reveal ourselves to the world. Again, tell yourself you are being pragmatic. Tell yourself you are succumbing to the inevitable. Tell YOURSELF whatever you need to get through the day. But do not think you are fooling anyone but you.
No one will ever forget this. No one will ever forget that you aligned yourself with THAT. Because this is life and people will pretend to ignore your choices, but they don't and they don't forget.
So, vote for Trump. Tell yourself it is because he is...Good God, I have nothing for that. I have nothing for how someone supports a person who encourages the general public to punch people in the face. Who stands for LITERALLY nothing but hate. Who puts forth ZERO agenda other than "I'm GREAT!!" That supports going outside the law to achieve his agenda...yet who has not even given a single concrete indication of what his agenda actually is. You are going to have to go through the mental gymnastics that allow you to reconcile supporting that vile piece of shit with your vision of yourself as a decent human being on your own. I am simply not quite that agile.
Tell yourself whatever you have to. But stop telling the rest of us anything about nobility of spirit or honor or decency. Cause you just lost the right to that stuff. And that is the important stuff. That is the stuff that will still be here long after your pragmatic choice is a horrific side note in a history book.
And for Godís sake (literally), stop telling me you are a Christian. I have studied the Bible from cover to cover and Donald Trump is not a candidate for Jesus. Find me ONE verse in the Bible attributed to Jesus that even gets you in the ballpark of supporting Donald Trump and I will listen. But I sure couldnít find one. Leviticus, maybe. New Testament...no. (BTW, I have always found it interesting that the faith is CHRISTianity, but the followers always fall back on the Old Testament to justify their bigotry and hatred. I would think that if you are genuinely a person of faith, your beliefs would stem from the New Testament and the Old Testament would be used for context...but what do I know. Oh, and NO, kicking the money changers and sellers of sacrificial animals out of the temple does not count. Yes, Jesus got angry. No, it is not anything like Donald Trump being angry.)
And if you support Donald Trump because you are angry that your party did not get their way for the last eight years...grow up. Children destroy things because they did not get their way. Destroying America with Donald Trump because you are pissed about Obama is what toddlers in day care do when they would rather break the toy than share it. Stop telling me you love America if any of THAT figures into your....reasoning.

Let your anger guide you. Let your hate guide you. Let your inability to stand for what you truly believe in guide you. Fine. If the will of the people is hatred and ugliness, so be it. But that is not my will and never will be. I do not choose to be two people. I choose to be honorable. I will vote my conscience and you vote your anger and pragmatism.
But stop telling me that you are a decent human being. And stop telling me what a great Christian you are. Going to church does not make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage will make me a mechanic. It is by your ACTIONS that you are known as a Christian. So, act like one.

Help me understand...WTF is happening?

I haven't been around here for the last couple of years because arguing about politics on top of some other pretty big life changes just got to be a little much.

But I am seriously starting to freak out. I have some conservative friends that two months ago told me Donald Trump was a bad joke who are now supporting him. They have apparently done some fairly impressive mental gymnastics and now he is ok. He is fiery and gosh, their party needed that!

This fucking crazy. How is this happening?

When ideals collide... porn vs. feminism

I have found the entire porn debate that has been going on lately fascinating on several levels. It has got me wondering about how we all rank our progressive ideals differently. For some, First Amendment rights are paramount. Anything that smacks of limiting free speech is anathema. For others, the welfare of women is their primary focus and anything that objectifies women is the worst thing. Then there are those who just want to enjoy their porn without pondering it's political ramifications.

Here's what I wonder....Can there be a Progressive Theory of Everything where ALL the tenets important to a progressive agenda work cohesively? Or do we always have to triage our interests and place our concerns in the order they speak to us most? Can Free Speech (I don't know why I always feel compelled to capitalize 'Free Speech', but I do) live side by side with a concern for the objectification and minimizing of women?

It seems like each side of this issue is defending their position based on important progressive ideals. But what is the MOST important progressive ideal? What comes first? For me, it is along the lines of 'do no harm'. Free speech? Damn straight. As long as it doesn't potentially harm someone else.

P.S. I recognize that feminism and pornography are not mutually exclusive. I was trying in my title to succinctly represent the two sides I see being discussed the most.
