bobbieinok's JournalAnyone here ever visited Fortress Louisbourg in Nova Scotia? Was French HQ in No America
We spent a day there in 1976. A fabulous place to visit. The Canadians do a wonderful job of preserving and presenting their historic memorialsl
I'm embarrassed to admit I don't remember ever hearing about the place when I was in school, although it apparently played an important role in our colonial history.
IN's Hamilton Southeastern HS major sex abuse scandal. Perp chosen by fac, staff as model student
There are 2 posts about this at the blog 'thewartburgwatch.com' with links to local media coverage. Post 2.9.18 gives details about the 3 (so far)victims. 2 of the girls transferred b/c of panic attacks seeing him in school.
Grandmother of one victim commented on today's post.
School seems to have failed these girls massively.
Surprise!! Perp star player on school sport team. Adm didn't want to damage his chances of getting into good college!
What do you say? Seesaw or teeter totter? Paper bag or paper sack? Water bucket or water pail?
These used to be regional terms. I was told seesaw was southern, teeter totter northern. I don't remember about the others.
There was also a regional distinction in the answer to the question 'What do you fry your eggs in - skillet, fry pan, frying pan?' Some places in New England apparently call the utensil a 'spider'. IIRC I found that usage in an Asey Mayo mystery.
And then do you 'take' or 'drive' someone to school? A few places say 'carry.' I was stunned when I heard some one say 'carry.' I think they were from MS.
Anyone here familiar with the Shaker Hymn Simple Gifts? Do you find it helpful? Relaxing?
Many videos of people singing the song on youtube. I find the simple one with church and the girls in oldtime dresses the most pleasing.
What is your experience?
Head of German Bishops Conference says church can bless gay couples. US catholic news distort story
NOTE. Replaced SS with gay. Just wasn't thinking.
Several posts about this today at William Lindsey's blog bilgrimage.blogspot.com
German news media demanded US catholic media correct their translation. New US story STILL leaves out key statement and in so doing twists bishop's message.
Seems to be major rift between German and US Catholic leaders.
German statement seems to be a major break with Razinger et al views on SS couples.
Which president designed odd regalia for attendents? Nixon? Reagan? W..
Can't remember when. Just that it was compared to musical comedy costumes.
T may want to recycle it for his parade.
2 German words every US kid knows before s/he starts school Kindergarten and Blitz(pass)
* Blitz in English is lightning, in this context superfast-- as in Blitzkrieg, WWII term meaning 'lightning fast war'
* Kindergarten-- 'Kinder' (children) and 'Garten' (garden), garden of children, similar to 'Tiergarten'-- 'Tier' (animal), so animal garden, a German word for zoo. I'm not sure the teachers alaways think of their class as a garden
The concept and name 'Kindergarten' came to US from Germany with the refugees who came here after the failed German revolutions of 1848. The same year so many refigees came here from Ireland because of the 1848 Irish Potato Famine.
Good thing GOPers don't read much---scifi has many ways to solve prob of poor
* sell everyone in poor families as slaves, payment to govt (includes children): mostly as labor, but sex slaves bring in big $$, esp if govt sells most to brothels and then takes 50% of the brothels' profits
* periodically block off tunnels, subways and fill with deadly gas; gets rid of lots of surplus; since these mostly in urban areas, this is a big crowd pleaser in rural areas
* mandatoty lottery drawings for those in designated demographics (elderly, black, wrong religion, etc); 'winners' are executed (televised, of course)
What next? Time limts to medicare? 10yrs? 15?
After all, why should decent, god-fearing, tax-paying Americans be expected to support people who just laze about all day?
