What do you think of this?

I'm a member of the Maryland Choral Society, a wonderfully talented chorus. It humbles me to think that I passed an audition and was accepted into this group.

It seems to be assumed that everyone in this group sings in a church choir and is a Christian. The president of the chorus is a Baptist pastor. I'm an atheist.

I can deal with this. I can sing sacred texts and standard religious carols and such. I see myself as an actor when I do this. The words mean nothing to me.

I'm facing something unique in my life. I'm somewhat apprehensive about coming out as an atheist. I wouldn't make an announcement, but I would come out in one-on-one conversation. I have already been asked twice what church I sing with. I just said "none right now" once and "this is my only group right now" to the other.

It is not important to me to flatly set the record straight. I don't have any notions that I must be true to myself, to be out fully so that I can sleep at night.

I just don't like dodging questions, and am apprehensive about how/when to answer fully.

Your thoughts?

Oh - just got an email from the president. A member's toddler grandson died today, and he's asked us to remember the family in prayer. This is an email to a secular chorus.

a very bad night

I guess becoming unhinged because I scared my cat is a good sign of a bad night. Could use some helpful vibes. I just want to be happy again.

Disturbing dream. Graphic. Don't read if squeamish or easily offended. Had to tell someone.

I dreamed about my best friend. I adore him and he adores me.

I was in a large open work area, surrounded by a much larger open work area. It seemed like an office in a warehouse. There were other people there.

There was a bed in the office, with beige sheets and a beige blanket (colors of linens I'd never have in my house. Yuck).

My friend walked through the door and headed for the bed. He looked miserable. I knew somehow that he was very sick and had a fever.

As he laid down and covered himself up, I said, "You got what everyone else has, huh?" He asked me angrily, "what?" I said, "the creeping crud around here. Seems you got it."

Suddenly he was uncovered -- and nude. He grabbed my head between his knees and pulled me on top of him. He said, "why don't you go fuck yourself!" He threw me across the room with his knees.

I woke up shaking.

I had to tell someone. I don't feel comfortable telling my friend (yet), or my wife, or even my sister, to whom I tell everything.

Anyone know anything about something strange happening on Facebook?

Mrs. V.'s feed was inundated with broadcast sports pages, I mean just flooded. My page won't open at all. Curious.

What is this called?

There is a name for this question and I can't remember what it is. (It's "Somebody's Something." It's driving me nuts!

A Christian asks: Wouldn't you rather believe in God and discover that he doesn't exist, or not believe in him and find that he does exist - when it's too late?

Anyone? I'm grasping at straws.

Thanks.

Holy shit!

For the first time in months, my postprandial blood glucose is within the limit.

It's probably because my doctor increased my insulin yesterday, but I'll take it.

What is your favorite memory of a pet long gone?

Most of us have memories of pets doing silly, scary, funny, weird things. What's yours? Whatever pet you had, from tiger barb to African Gray to garden variety tabby to English Mastiff, tell all. Bonus for pictures!

This is my sweet Harry, whom I called Harry le Roi.

He loved those little toy mice covered with the fur of some unknown hapless creature. He'd play with a mouse for a while, then he'd take it into the kitchen. He'd drop it by the kibble dish and take a couple of bites of kibble, then pick up the mouse and chew on it for a minute, then take another bite of kibble, another bite of mouse, etc. I believe that he liked to feel like he was eating a mouse. God, he was a funny, sweet cat. I miss him so badly.

Ok, your turn. Go!

Did you watch Oz?

I just started the second season, and although I can quit watching right now, I am strangely fascinated. I want to see how the Beecher character plays out. And I just cannot stop watching J.K. Simmons.
