not complaining, but just saying that i have gotten a couple of them, and they were pretty much hail marys hoping to trip up a troll.
i knew when i sent them that the odds were small anyone would pick up on the trolling, but....
and one more thing-
i had a couple of jury calls where i wished i knew what forum the post was from. some things that would fly in a group should be called out in gd.
is forum info ever included?

i was kinda sick during most of my baking this year, and i feel like i wasnt thinking straight. lots of things went wrong, or just didnt get done.
but i tried something new that turned out delicious, but...
so the main cookie here is the klatchke, a recipe from and old german lady that was a friend of my mom's. they were the only cookie my mom made.
they are delicious but fussy.
anyway, the dough is basically half butter, half cream cheese, no sweetening.
i decided this year that this dough could be lighter, and maybe better, if i made it puff pastry style. so i saved half the butter and did just that.
they are super delish. light and airy and flaky and nom nom nom.
there is only one problem.
the cookies are shaped in a little pinwheel around a stewed apricot. getting those little suckers to stay closed, to not pop open in the oven, is the main annoyance w this cookie.
well, guess what all the little puff pastry did in the oven? you guessed it. 100% of them puffed up and popped open.
omg they are good tho. i didnt get the whole batch in the oven, and i am thinking i am just going to do a coffee cake type thing, or maybe a rolled up and sliced type of thing.
small bonus is that you dust them w powdered sugar, which gets absorbed within a day or so, and is not attractive. these dont seem to be sucking that sugar down. good thing.

dont feel that bad, just not good enough to talk my son into going to some friends w me. he was all set to go, but when i went wobbly, so did he.
dont want to drive alone, and dont want to drive home late.
could stay over, but it is a hassle.
second day of antibiotics and cant drink much anyway.

a -i have to try this some year- xmas cookie wish list item achieved.
so, the one absolutely mandatory xmas cookie is my klatckes. (also spelled kolatchky, etc)
mine are made from the recipe of an old german grandma friend of my mom's. the dough is the common, unsweetened, cream cheese dough. it gets special w the fillings. most people just use jelly. i use real fruit.
#1 is a stewed apricot. usually the only ones i make, tho this year i have a couple others.
anyway, the wish list thing is this-
every year i look at the syrup left over from stewing those apricots.
i know it could easily be made into a candy, and always had a divinity candy in the back of my mind. i keep it sitting there, but dont get to it. just get tired!
so, i finally did it. heated up the syrup, whipped up a few egg whites, and i have a batch of fantastic apricot divinity.
mmmm. also candied the tiny meyer lemons from my tree. i think they will make an unusual and delish klatchky, and that lemon syrup....
hope i have time for another batch.
i wish we could make presidents take a physical before inauguration.
perhaps hindsight in 2020 will lead us to really expect/demand that.
seems rational to actually test their fitness.
if we had been able to shame cheeto into seeing real doctors, that might have been the end of it.
but as it stands we are about to put the second old geezer w a failing brain at the helm of this country.
i want the next next commander in chief to have a full exam at walter reed before they take that oath.
and i want to see an mri of that obviously addled, probably orange, brain. asap.
psst. i am getting puppy fever.
so have posted quite a few times about my bulldogges, biff and doctor. and i gotta say one more time that these are the most wonderful dogs ever. and i have had a lot of dogs.
doc lives w my daughter now, a couple doors down from me. he is such a great dog that i didnt really blink at the pair of bionic hips that he needed. one down, one to go, soon. if ever a dog deserved the best, it's him.
and biff, wow. what a dog. we have been doing pet therapy for almost a year now, and he just rocks it. and such a good boy. just wants to know what the momma wants, and he wants it to. so reliable. so obedient.
and such a big, loving goof.
well, anyway, my brother of choice is quite attached to him, and his son thinks there has never been a cooler dog.
he has been thinking about getting the kid a dog, and i keep telling him i know where he can get one just like biff. turns out that there is a litter due in feb. means a road trip to nc in the spring. but he is ready.
this is a different breeder, but he ended up w a lot of her dogs when she passed away. he had done breeding w her before, so he basically has a couple generations of her stock, mixed w his. he is a good guy, who i have followed on fb for a while and know he does good health screening. i see all the kudos from people who are crazy about the dogs they got from him, and i see his videos and pics of his dogs w his kids, and just foolin around.
so, why go all that way for one pup?
my boys are now 5. i expect them to have longer than average lifespans, as pretty much all my dogs do. but still, that makes them middle aged for their breed/size. not sure how much longer i will have it in me to raise a big dog, and handle a big dog. biff is a cream puff, but doctor? omg.
dont think i will have the money for this kind of dog for long, either. getting into retirement.
i think it is always good to get a new pup when you have such a good dog as a pack leader. gonna get a little girl, so everybody will be happy.
i think biff will enjoy having another bully buddy again.

we know what kind of shit we pull in other countries. we cant be stupid enough to think we are the only ones, and that we can forever escape the blowback.
