hey lounge. i had a thought. who else misses the duzy's?

i tried at one point to put it in skinner's ear that there could be a button, a duzy button, that copied the post and link to an automated forum. if they wanted to be super nifty, they would use the jury filter to post the op, and replies in line.
he liked the idea, but hey, they got enough to do.

anyway, it occurs to me that folks could do that by bringing good ones to the lounge.
whatcha think?

maybe the way to handle all this is to measure the strength of the campaigns.

confession- i have a long held axe that i bring out and grind from time to time against the dccc, esp, but the dnc in general. and the money poll.

the dnc has made a heroic effort to find a way to improve the process, but it still isnt working. strong candidate are dropping out, and there are still complete loser clowns on the main stage.
allow me to give you a view from the birth of the blue wave to point to a better way to do this.

read this part if you are bored.

oldtimers here might remember the 2006 il6 race- cegelis v duckworth.
it was a battle royale. it raged right here.
i was on the losing side of that fight, and duckworth was on the losing side in the ge, giving us peter ro-scum.

i got to know many folks on both sides of that battle, including jan schakowsky's political director, who was the ultimately successful hatchetman.
for all concerned, it came down to money. they had lifted cegelis up in her first run, she was in the dean dozen. she had forced henry hyde to retire.
then they dropped her like a hot potato. (the only dem who even bothered to speak to her about it was sen obama.)
the dist has since gone solid blue. that race, that candidate, had been a focal point around which the dupage dems, almost an oxymoron until that election, organized to flip the district and the county.
but it was a loss we did not have to take.

cegelis had known from the get go that it would take 2 runs. she had built a grassroots army from day one. hell, i came in from chi, an hour drive, to lend a hand.
the night before the election there was an electric rally. it remain perhaps the political high point of my life. i guess my sisters election night edges it out for significance, but for pure inspiration, it is the peak. honestly, it barely edges out the whole 2008 campaign.

the guest of honor was a skinny kid w a funny name who was running for the senate.
now, i could go on about that night at very great length, but i will leave it at this- my life's greatest mistake. tho i have a pic of obama w my candidate, i neglected to get one w me. all i can say is that some day, if i ever get a chance to chat on a ropeline again, i can tell him my story from that night, he will remember, and he will smile that smile.

we were sure we could win in 06. we had a ground game that eventually helped tipped the whole thing.
but it came down to dollars. so they propped up tammy, and that turned out spectacularly in the long run. i never doubted that would happen. the friendly fire doomed her run.

and that warfare cost us control until 18, and sean casten.
we need better metrics than dollars and polls.
#of staff, #volunteers, #quality of assets like walk pieces and websites.
#of signatures, #of events so far, #of emails and followers.

you get the picture.
we need this debate. we could have it quickly, and fix this in time.

an update on my family member who quit his job at the pentagon.

https://www.democraticunderground.com/100212626497

so, this guy is notoriously tight lipped, but had a visit w my brother last weekend. my bro is one person he talks too, and he was busting to talk. i didnt get the whole convo, but what i got was this-

his job was in jsoc policy.
he says he was pushed out in a struggle over personnel being foisted on them by the wh. specifically, a guy named john rood, who is a policy liaison, but is making personnel picks.
they tangled over a particular pick that is still there, dont know who.

rood was stupid enough to question the "loyalty" of a certified war hero.
ans- you dont get to question my loyalty. fuck you. i quit.

he is a lifelong repub, but he has decided that cheato is a bad president, a bad man, and a clear and present danger.

he is not alone.
stout hearts, friends.

ets- shit, i forgot the juiciest part- he says rood is involved in ukraine.

my kid and i are not on the best of terms atm, but when i saw this terf shit trending today, and attached to one of the biggest happy places of her childhood, it just tore my heart apart. i know she is in tears, and i am not there to dry them.
i am quite sure i am not alone in this particular pov here.
(it wouldnt hurt mom's feelings for her to see this, either.)

i am looking forward to stephani ruhle's interview w bloomie.

i still have an open mind on bloomberg, but if we loved beto for taking on guns, we ought to at least give him a listen. (and treat him as du rules require.)

i know some people dont like ruhle, but she is my gal. i love her.
they are friends, she worked for him for 5 years. she knows him well, and knows how his actions affected her city on a very gritty level.
i think you all should listen to what she has to say.

i welcome him in the race. i am not thinking about voting for him. still solid ew.
but if he got the nod, i would be enthusiastic on the trail for him. and meanwhile he is beating cheato like a rented mule on my teevee.
imho, he is really everything people thought trump was, except he is the real deal.
we could def do worse.

got a baking question.

so, making a few spiked xmas cookies for special friends.
i have never baked w the stuff, as edibles dont work well for me. but my new domestic partner is a big edibles maker. he isnt a baker, tho.

so, here's my question- he is making me a batch of laced butter. but i am wondering about the structure of the butter once it has been melted. i'm figuring i will have to get it nice and cold, and whip it, and maybe chill it again before i use it.
i am hoping it will then cream w the sugar, and have a good structure. usually using butter that is too soft/warm will result in a chewier cookie. but that is all wrong for this one cookie in particular.

so, any baking tips for me?

alex witt, chuck todd and the trouble w journalists.

so, i have this little farm. it's been in the news a few times.
i also live a few short miles from northwestern, as well as loyola, both of which have journalism programs.
so, i have been interviewed several times by j students.
most times i read what they wrote, and shook my head.

here's the thing- they ask basic question, the w's and all that.
fine. start there. if you have a good interviewee, you will get a decent story.

but here is the thing- you ask those questions when you know nothing.
but when you actually have a knowledge base, you ask completely different, better questions. you might be able to write a better article than the usual- abc of urban farming, say. you might be able to write something that is actually enlightening. that contains info that your fellow citizens might be able to use.

now, witt and todd are both guilty, imho, of asking those stupid j-101 questions. always. in spite of all they know at this point, they keep asking the same stupid questions. they ask 'what is trump thinking?'- the stupidest question ever. the most irrelevant at this point. they continue to give their 'innocent' benefit of the doubt type questions.

they make me sick. such epic fails they are.

can you rec a series for a 3rd grader?

my grandson if having trouble w a lazy eye, and it is impacting his reading skills.
he is getting treatment, but we are trying to put a floor under his reading skills.
his reacher rec'd a tablet, so he could read along, so we did that.

but i am thinking of getting him a stack of comics for xmas. i think it would make reading a little more interesting, and break up the lines of text in a way that is a little easier to focus.

there is a great little comic store in the hood, and i plan to go there, and am sure they will have some great recs. but it would be good to go in there and not look like a complete idiot.

thoughts?
