Aren’t more white people than black people killed by police? Yes, but no.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2016/07/11/arent-more-white-people-than-black-people-killed-by-police-yes-but-no/?tid=sm_fb&utm_term=.da319056935a

Dylan Noble died on the last Saturday of June.

Police in Fresno, Calif., received a report of a man walking a downtown street with a rifle, but when they arrived, they instead found Noble speeding by in his pickup truck.

When they tried to pull him over, the 19-year-old led police to a nearby gas station and then exited his car.

“The driver then turned towards officers with one hand concealed behind his back, and told officers he hated his life,” the Fresno police department said in a statement. “As he continued to advance towards officers, an officer-involved shooting occurred.”

The department framed it as a “suicide by cop.” His family insisted that could not be the case, urged federal officials to investigate and demanded that video from the body cameras worn by both officers involved be released.

“I am outraged that the police would shoot my son and say that it is his fault,” Veronica Nelson, Noble’s mother, told reporters at a news conference not long after the shooting. “So please join me as I’m demanding justice for Dylan.”

Noble’s friends and family gathered for days at the gas station parking lot where he was killed — some waving Confederate flags and others chanting, “White lives matter.”

And soon, they were angry at their inability to garner more attention. At a time when dozens of police killings have prompted outrage, why hadn’t this one? Was it because Noble was white?

It can happen to you too. White skin isn't bulletproof.

The money shot:
Once again, while in raw number there were similar totals of white and black victims, blacks were killed at rates disproportionate to their percentage of the U.S. population.

For lurking freepers:
According to FBI numbers from 2014, about 90 percent of black homicide victims were killed by other black people. The “white-on-white” murder rate that same year — homicides in which a white person was killed by another white person — was 82 percent of all murders of white people.

Facebook just put up a huge ‘Black Lives Matter’ sign at its headquarters

http://fusion.net/story/323027/dallas-police-shooting-protest/

It’s been a long, tragic week. On Tuesday, an officer shot and killed Alton Sterling in Louisiana while he was being held down. Then on Wednesday, Facebook Live captured the death of Philando Castile in Minnesota, who was shot by police during a traffic stop. During a peaceful protest in Dallas on Thursday over those killings, a sniper killed multiple police officers and injured others. To end the week, on Friday, Facebook’s Menlo Park headquarters put up a giant sign declaring that “Black Lives Matter” and held a moment of silence for the people who had died.

A close-up of the sign shows that the words are formed from individuals’ names, including Emmett Till, Trayvon Martin, Oscar Grant, Eric Garner, Oscar Grant, Michael Brown, Jordan Davis, Kimani Gray, Renisha McBride, Jonathan Ferrell, and Amadou Diallo.

Facebook has had Black Lives Matter posters around its campus and in multiple offices around the world for awhile. (Zuckerberg has before condemned employees for defacing “Black Lives Matter” messages written on the walls of its HQ, replacing them with “All Lives Matter.”) But this large sign in the middle of Facebook’s campus appears to have been put up just this morning. Here’s what this area of the campus looked like earlier in the day, via a photo posted in the morning:

Facebook has played a major role in capturing evidence and disseminating fury in the recent glut of police-involved violence. After a police officer shot Castile, his fiance Diamond Reynolds went live on Facebook with damning footage of the aftermath. The video has since racked up more than 5 million views. (Facebook briefly took the video down late Wednesday night due to what it called a “glitch.”)

The next day, Thursday, users again turned to Facebook Live to broadcast footage from a protest in Dallas, that captured sounds of gunfire when a sniper shot multiple people, leaving five police officers dead.

I respectfully encourage the #AllLivesMatter folks here to close down your Facebook accounts immediately and permanently in protest of this. Also anyone who doesn't see color and doesn't see the problem or think people are too sensitive or need to blame the victims who died.

Whether it's showing romantic interest in a white woman or having legal gun permit or looking like someone who might have robbed someone or looking like someone who might be on the news for terrorism, the punishment is immediate public execution. It's bleeding obvious whose lives don't matter. Yeah it is based on how we look.

Trump praises for Saddam Hussein's efficient killing of 'terrorists,' calls today's Iraq 'Harvard for terrorism'

http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/05/politics/donald-trump-saddam-hussein-iraq-terrorism/index.html

Raleigh, North Carolina (CNN)Donald Trump on Tuesday once again expressed his preference for keeping dictators in power in the Middle East.

While acknowledging that Saddam Hussein "was a bad guy," Trump praised the former Iraqi dictator's efficient killing of "terrorists" -- despite the fact that Iraq was listed as a state sponsor of terrorism during Hussein's time in power.

Trump, who supported the Iraq War before the invasion and in the early months of the war, said the U.S. "shouldn't have destabilized" Iraq before pivoting to praising Hussein.

"He was a bad guy -- really bad guy. But you know what? He did well? He killed terrorists. He did that so good. They didn't read them the rights. They didn't talk. They were terrorists. Over. Today, Iraq is Harvard for terrorism," Trump said.

The remarks came during a rally where he was introduced by Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, who is a potential running mate for Trump.

Asked Tuesday night on Fox News about the comments, House Speaker Paul Ryan appeared taken aback by Trump's words.
"He was one of the 20th century's most evil people," Ryan said of the former Iraqi strongman.

The Clinton campaign jumped on the remarks, with senior campaign adviser Jake Sullivan saying "Trump's praise for brutal strongmen seemingly knows no bounds."

Here’s The Powerful Reason People Are Wearing Safety Pins In The U.K.

https://www.good.is/articles/safety-pin-solidarity-immigrants-uk

=s1000x1400

The tiny safety pin is making a huge impact in Great Britain—and it has nothing to do with punk rock.

Following last week’s stunning Brexit vote, the United Kingdom saw a staggering 57 percent increase in reported incidents of xenophobic abuse, according to the National Police Chiefs’ Council. Some victims even took to social media to share photos of the alleged verbal and physical abuse they have suffered since the vote.

David Cameron, Great Britain's outgoing Prime Minister, said in a statement:

“In the past few days we have seen despicable graffiti daubed on a Polish community centre, we’ve seen verbal abuse hurled against individuals because they are members of ethnic minorities. Let’s remember these people have come here and made a wonderful contribution to our country. We will not stand for hate crime or these kinds of attacks, they must be stamped out.”

Oddly enough, it is an American who came up with the small but mighty gesture for those looking to support immigrants in the U.K. As Mashable reports, a Twitter user named Allison proposed the simple idea of wearing a safety pin to show solidarity for immigrants.

Very good idea to let people know you're a safe person to be around.

Man shows how easy it is to hide that Orlando bastard's gun

I think each of those magazines holds 30 rounds. So with 7 of them it's 210 rounds of protection from your numerous enemies?

There's a reason mass shooters choose these types of weapons instead of others.

Now before some gun humper tells us the model of gun the shooter used was different or that our lawmakers don't know enough about guns to write gun control laws. Think if you would rather say that to someone who is mentally unstable and holding a loaded weapon like that, or if that person had only their fists, a knife, a pipe, or a car.

Microsoft is giving Windows 10 a big upgrade.

http://money.cnn.com/2016/06/29/technology/windows-10-anniversary-update/index.html

The free "anniversary update" on August 2 will give users a slew of updated tools for browsing, gaming and security.
-- Microsoft Edge: The browser will be updated to use less memory and power. There will also be better features for people with disabilities, such as a high-contrast mode and screen readers. And for the first time ever, users can also use biometrics through Windows Hello to authentic their identities on certain websites.
-- Xbox One: Buy a game once and play it on a console or Windows 10 computer with shared game progress. Students can also save $300 if they buy an Xbox One and a Surface together before August 14. Strategically, Microsoft has timed its new smaller Xbox One S to launch in August, starting at $300.
-- Cortana: The virtual assistant is getting smarter, according to Microsoft (MSFT, Tech30), with features that help the program save, recall and synchronize data across devices, including, for the first time, the Xbox.
-- Windows Defender: Users will have the ability to schedule automatic and periodic anti-malware scans of their computers, and receive reports about threats.

Microsoft says Windows 10 is the company's most successful version of Windows and it now runs on more than 350 million devices.
A free upgrade to Windows 10 is still available for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 devices until July 29.
The new version got its first huge update a few months after launching last year.

Windows 10 is the end of the line for the operating system. Microsoft has no plans to build a "Windows 11."
That's actually a good thing because users will get steady upgrades like this instead of waiting years for a new version.

Babies Of Color Are Now The Majority, Census Says

http://www.npr.org/sections/ed/2016/07/01/484325664/babies-of-color-are-now-the-majority-census-says?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=npr&utm_term=nprnews&utm_content=20160702

Today's generation of schoolchildren looks much different than one just a few decades ago. Nonwhites are expected to become the majority of the nation's children by 2020, as our colleague Bill Chappell reported last year. This is now the reality among the very youngest Americans: babies.

Babies of color now outnumber non-Hispanic white babies (1 year or younger), according to new estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau. The newest estimate shows that on July 1, 2015, the population of racial or ethnic minority babies was 50.2 percent.

But the scales may have actually tipped in 2013 — the Census Bureau often revises past population estimates as new data become available. That means the first of these babies are now preschool-aged.

We've already been seeing this shift in U.S. schools: the 2014-15 school year marked the first time that minority student enrollment in public schools surpassed that of white students.

For U.S. Children, Minorities Will Be The Majority By 2020, Census Says

Trump's supporters have no idea what America looks like and they won't be prepared for what happens to them this election day. They just can't believe what kind of people are born in America these days!

Republican women organize to support Clinton

http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/02/politics/republican-women-organize-to-support-clinton/index.html

(CNN)Huddled around a corner table during happy hour at the swanky St. Regis Hotel bar in downtown Washington, five young Republicans busily brainstormed how they could help Hillary Clinton become the next president of the United States.

The group included an unlikely gang of pro-Clinton foot soldiers, including a Mississippi-born Southern Baptist who got her start in GOP politics as an intern in the second Bush White House, a conservative health care policy analyst who has volunteered for anti-abortion causes and a former president of the Cornell University College Republicans.
Over glasses of wine and champagne Monday night, they kicked off the first steering committee meeting for a new organization: "Republican Women for Hillary."
Their motivation? Stop Donald Trump.

"It's really important that Republican leaders, especially Republican women leaders, stand up right now and say we're not OK with Trump representing our party," said Jennifer Lim, a group founder who works at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and has spent much of her life volunteering for Republican causes and campaigns. "This is not a position I ever wanted to find myself in. But it's important that when things like this happen that people speak up."

This is going to be a game changer in many areas. There may be plenty of Repub women who won't admit it publicly, but may privately vote for the first female president so they can make history. I think the anti-Trump sentiment is stronger than it appears. People know he's unqualified.

Serbia cafe killing: Gunman shoots wife and four others, injuring 20

Source: BBC

Five people have been shot dead and at least 20 injured in a cafe in north-eastern Serbia.
Police say the gunman killed his wife and another woman, before randomly shooting at other customers at the cafe.
Three children were among those injured in the attack near the city of Zrenjanin, the interior ministry said.
The gunman was arrested and police are investigating his motive, which is believed to be jealousy.
Witnesses told Serbia's state TV that the attacker came to the Makijato cafe and saw his wife there with a group of friends, the AP news agency reports. He apparently went home and came back with a gun.
"He just pulled out a gun and started shooting, first into the air," one of the witnesses, Svetozar Manojlovic, said.
