Vice President Mike Pence remains a willing apostle to the most corrupt president in American history.
Nearly four years ago, Mike Pence, then Indianas wildly unpopular governor, accepted the Republican nomination for vice president. I am a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican in that order, he said with hammy aplomb to a cheering convention crowd.
He is again expected to accept the opportunity next month to be one Big Mac away from the presidency, yet Pence should amend his signature line. He is, first and foremost, President Trumps toady. Everything else is a distant second.
Pence is an accomplice in the most corrupt presidency in American history. Its baleful legacy will cling to Pence like a shroud appropriate for a coconspirator in an administration whose ineptitude, malice, and egotism remain the perfect vectors for the coronavirus pandemic, which has claimed more than 125,000 American lives in four months.
With cases again surging in dozens of states and hospitalizations on the rise, Pence is now advocating mask usage to slow the spread of the coronavirus, which causes COVID-19. Yet he also spent months following his bosss lead, downplaying the necessity of masks simply by refusing to wear one. Neither is Pence getting ahead of Trump by suggesting the need for a federal mandate on face coverings, though House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently called such a guideline long overdue.
Though Pence has recently worn a mask, he still echoes Trumps dangerous nonsense, such as promoting the illogical lie that more coronavirus testing leads to more cases. (You know, like how more pregnancy tests lead to more pregnancies.)
That Pence still heads the White House coronavirus task force speaks volumes about this administrations incompetent response to the pandemic. Of course, thats why some political analysts believe Trump picked Pence to lead the task force he wanted a fall guy.

Last KKKer convicted in the 1963 16th Street Baptist Church bombing has died.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Thomas Edwin Blanton Jr., the last of three one-time Ku Klux Klansmen convicted of a 1963 Alabama church bombing that killed four Black girls and was the deadliest single attack of the civil rights movement, has died in prison, the governor's office said Friday. He was 81.
In May 2001, Blanton was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison for the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham.
When asked by the judge if he had any comment, Blanton said: I guess the good Lord will settle it on judgment day.
Gov. Kay Ivey's office said Blanton died of natural causes.
The church bombing, exposing the depths of hatred by white supremacists as Birmingham integrated its public schools, was a tipping point of the civil rights movement. Moderates could no longer remain silent and the fight to topple segregation laws gained new momentum.
The investigation into the bombing was stalled early and left dormant for long stretches, but two other ex-Klansmen, Robert Chambliss and Bobby Frank Cherry, also were convicted in the bombing in separate trials. Chambliss was convicted in 1977 and died in prison in 1985. Cherry was convicted in 2002 and died in prison in 2004.
On Sept. 15, 1963, a bomb ripped through an exterior wall of the brick church, killing four girls who were inside preparing for a youth program. The bodies of Denise McNair, 11, and Addie Mae Collins, Cynthia Wesley and Carole Robertson, all 14, were found in the downstairs lounge.

White House Toilet Doesn't Know If It Can Handle Another 4 Years Of Trump.
WASHINGTONShuddering at the thought of what another term would bring, a White House toilet reportedly expressed concerns Thursday that it didnt know if it could handle another four years of President Donald Trump.
I know Im supposed to be apolitical and serve at the pleasure of the president, whoever it is, but I truly dont think that I can take it if Trump wins reelection, said the porcelain commode, explaining that it had served honorably through several administrations and had never experienced anything as unspeakable as Trumps bowel movements.
I thought that maybe the office would change him, but if anything, hes only gotten worse. Im honestly surprised Ive made it this long. Every day is such a slog. Honestly, Im at my breaking point. Biden isnt perfect by any means, but hed certainly be an improvement. The sink doesnt get what my deal is, but obviously she doesnt understand because shes never been used.
At press time, the White House toilet claimed to be most worried about the possibility of Trump refusing to give up the bathroom voluntarily in November.
