I highly recommend the unabridged version of The Stand by Stephen King. I have been saying for years that I believe it is one of the great American novels of the latter half of the 20th Century.

Actually the Trump people are 100% reliable: in every case they make, every statement, every nuance, you know the exact opposite is true. This is invariably the case.
Even the Nazis occasionally issued factual statements. This crowd is just plain stupid.

I know this initially seems convoluted but hang on...
Many years ago, MAD mag did a sendup of Mandrake the Magician. He’s traveling in a car with his two assistants and gets a flat tire. He immediately stated that he will fix it with his powers of hypnotism. His trusted bodyguard Lothar says: you can hypnotize us into thinking it’s fixed, you can even hypnotize yourself into thinking it’s fixed, but how are you going to hypnotize the tire into thinking it’s fixed?
Trump and his idiotic minions may have to come to terms with the fact that you cannot place stupid hats on viruses and mass-convince them that the ruler possesses the Divine Right of Kings. All the talk, all the BS, all the lies won’t wirk. It’s possibly the closest thing to Divine Intervention, if you are a believer, that has occurred recently. The funny part of all this is that the Fuhrer is a prime candidate for complications: obese, poor nutrition and thus poor immune system, cardiovascular issues including I believe, but not limited to CHF and I’ll bet he’s st the very least pre-diabetic. It’s like an additional chapter in Stephen King’s The Stand.
It should be interesting....
So the story goes that on an early date Donald takes Melania home and says to her,”Hey baby how about a goodnight fuck?”
Melania’s reply, “Ok. Goodnight, fuck.”
As I’m writing this it comes over as a flash that Dow futures are plunging again Sunday night. Looks like a “Goodnight, Fuck” to me.
A short essay for a Friday: God's Plan Edition
For the sake of argument alone, let's assume that the Evangelicals/True Believers are 100% correct that there exists a pre-existing plan in force created from the monotheistic God who is worshipped by these masses. Let's also assume that this God in His (yes I know...) wisdom has allowed for all sorts of Holocaust-type events including but not limited to wars, pestilence, famines, and other various and sundry forms of annihilation as a positive (yes I know...) and it is without question in the end, all for the greater good because we are headed for eternity in Heaven or Hell, depending upon His plan for our predetermined behavior. All this for the sake of argument we accept as Truth.
So, in keeping with the ancient saying "Pride goeth before the Fall", God has neatly planned to take one of His most pathological individuals and his family and elevate them to the pinnacle of power and then destroy their best-laid plans utilizing the smallest living organisms on the Planet. It is reminiscent of H.G. Wells War of the Worlds, wherein the Martians are felled by the bacteria in the atmosphere in the planet they had nearly conquered. It is positively Biblical or Shakespearean in its morality, explicating the weaknesses of even the most powerful of men (yes, I know again...). You see, when all is said and done, despite all the medals, all the trappings, all the wealth, and all the titular power, these are just men and women, organisms which are susceptible to disease and death, whether their own or others.
Those of us who have been around for some time, recognize the randomness of events, even events for which we expect an outcome. Who among us does not recall the moment one learns about the death of an intimate and even though we were aware of the imminent demise, it is still shocking at the moment at which it occurs, the seeming odd timing at which we get the phone call. So here, in this national nightmare in which we exist, the randomness of events is becoming clear, the circling of the drain, one way or the other, for this group of miscreants, If it not this series of events, it will be another. Have patience, and remember the adage of the Believers: it is not for us to question the machinations of God in His (yes I know...) infinite Wisdom."
Take heart, the End is nigh.

I traded for years online...this is a problem. No sugar coating. There is a bottom somewhere but I don’t see it.

And all others who treat individuals clinically:
I’m curious as to how you viscerally feel about going to work now that we MAY have an extremely serious communicable disease issue at hand.
I for one, at my age, but in relatively good health from an immune standpoint (for what that’s worth) am somewhat fatalistic and accepting of the risks. I’m not certain that I would feel that way at age 30 but I was about that age when AIDS hit my practice hard. Of course, that was less easily transmitted, but early on we were not certain of that. Nevertheless I never turned a patient away even though as a dentist we are essentially swimming in blood products. It’s ok: it goes with the territory. I’m not frightened, nor am I panicky in the least, but I am concerned for my fellow man and woman.
Any thoughts from anyone??

Symptoms: Patients who have contracted the virus swell up rapidly, turn bright orange, develop difficulties reading and speaking due to destruction of expressive language disorder centers in the brain, a sense of invincibility, inability of the individual to distinguish right from wrong, hypersexual inappropriate behavior, excessive flatulence secondary to poor dietary habits devolving from behavioral changes.
Prognosis: Poor: poorhouse, poor result, poor us.

I remember this prick in the 1980’s on CNN’s Crossfire. This self-righteous slimy sonofabitch was even worse than Novak or Buchanan who used to be the RW hosts. Psychosexually deviant and obvious about it.
He got busted for putting ads in swinger mags for himself and his wife. Disappeared from the National tv scene for a good while.
A first-class prick. Even compared to all the other pricks. Dis-gusting.
