That was the response I would have made as well

i recognize that President Obama probably didn't have time to give that sort of response but, yeah, Mitt didn't have to contend with a legislature determined to see him "fail" like President Obama has. When was the last time that a Republican President had to deal with an obstructionist Democratic Congress like this. For crying out loud, even after Bush stole the Presidency from Al Gore, Democrats in Congress didn't declare that they wished to see him fail nor did they declare war on Bush and filibuster everything to death. President Obama probably would've been able to do more if the GOP weren't bent on obstructionism- but I gather that that would've been pretty hard to delve into seriously even though it is true IMHO.

That sounds a LOT like what Romney was doing

Any information on how such a strategy is countered? President Obama was presented with so many lies, half-truths, distortions, etc. I'm sure that he had a hard time figuring out on the fly how to respond to it other than tell Romney to STFU (which, of course, he couldn't do).

What will the reaction in Freeperville to Romney's performance last night

now that he has rediscovered and embraced his Massachusetts record (i.e. Romneycare, working across the aisle with Democrats) and touted the necessity of "regulation"? Will they be upset or will they simply paper over all of that because their guy is perceived to have "beaten" President Obama like a drum?

Clinton had a long uninterrupted amount of time at the DNC to make the arguments he made

President Obama had a 2 ton flip-flopping lying charging RHINO that he had to fend off. Hardly a fair analogy IMHO.

I agree with the rope-a-dope

Another idea is that the Obama campaign was giving the media exactly what they wanted (or seemed to want): A "comeback" story for Romney. It was going to happen really no matter what so the Obama campaign thought they would just go with the flow and give Romney his opening knowing that now the narrative will be about Obama's "comeback". Plus it gave the Obama campaign an opportunity to figure out Mitt's strategy by just letting him filibuster for most of the debate. If the teabaggers were paying attention I doubt that they will be very happy with everything that Romney said either. Let them enjoy themselves tonight and let it go to their heads.

and Romney's going to make sure that it stays far greater than anything else

and everything, including Medicare and dozens of social programs that help the middle class and poor that he claims to be oh-so-concerned about NOW are going to be sacrificed to make sure we have a huge-a** military. Of course, if he gets elected POTUS, Mr. Missionary Draft Dodger will see to it that they won't just be standing around with nothing to do, not when there's countries like Iran that Israel is just begging us to bomb.

Any snap polls yet?

I hope so too

however the media (and the Republicans, of course) seriously exaggerate his ability to unilaterally positively affect unemployment. The Republican Congress is keeping his jobs bill bottled up and they're not going to do anything now to try to make things better (and thus help ensure President Obama's re-election). We'll pretty much just have to wait and see what the numbers are and hope that they're good (or at least that they don't harm President Obama too much). If the previous "bad" jobs reports haven't harmed President Obama too badly by this point, I don't know why the next two will either. Besides, Romney has no solutions to speak of and BTW why is NOBODY even asking why our esteemed "job creators" aren't creating jobs?

Well

one of the right-wing "rules" seems to be that if something didn't work the first time, try, try again. Their bad ideas are like zombies. They never die and they just keep coming.

October 3, 2012

Ok. Lemme see

If Romney shows up at the debate and shows us some "empathy", we can forget about the 47% remarks and presume that if elected he will have compassion and empathy for the 47% and make sure they are better taken care of than they would be under President Obama? Ok, jolly good. Move along. Nothing to see here.
