Mad_Machine76's JournalShe may not be a shoo-in
But- if she runs- she represents the best chance for Dems to hold on to the WH for another 4-8 years IMHO absent the appearance of any as yet unknown alternative candidates.
Are they getting so desperate
That every other word out of their mouths now is going to be ______ is like Obamacare? I for one am getting tired of hearing about "Obamacare" yet it is like Al catnip or better yet a Pavlovian dog bell for the teabaggers.
What I am confused about is
Who had standing for this lawsuit and how and why are they so determined to make people's lives miserable by trying to take away their subsidies? And as a follow up bonus question, why is SCOTUS chomping at the bit to hear this when it has not been resolved at Circuit- and following a decision to trash the ruling that upheld the lawsuit?
I don't know
If I were a Republican by the end of GWB's term, I'd feel pretty embarrassed. I don't get why we should feel embarrassed about Obama as a Democrat.
They are the proverbial dog chasing a car
that has finally caught it. What they will do with it is anybody's guess. We will undoubtedly get a repeal vote or two or three or 50 (can they make it an even 100 eventually?) on ACA and, likely, a vote on Keystone XL. Other than that, I really don't know what else to expect other than additional attempts to defund agencies that they don't like through the budget process. McConnell and Boehner are likely to be undermined by Cruz and other bombthrowers in the House and Senate. Their own efforts may be doomed by their own caucuses.
This is one of the most perplexing things about modern day Democratic campaigns
There is NOTHING to be ashamed about being a Democrat. If anybody deserves to be embarrassed, it should be Republicans, but they go out there election after election and act crazy, say crazy things, and lie their butts- but yet they still win, especially when our people don't get out and vote- mostly during the midterms. It seems to be that we should really have nothing to worry about by calling ourselves Democrats and being the smart and responsible ones whose party has a rich legacy of accomplishments and includes several notable members. Instead, most Democrats, particularly in the South, act like they should be treated as though they're carrying Leprosy (or Ebola) by saying that they're Democrats or that they (gasp!) voted for a Democrat for POTUS. As Bill Maher put it, Democrats gave people health care, NOT herpes!
They retired on a bad year
However, we stand a good chance of picking up the same number or more seats in 2016 to get the Senate back in 2016. This is a temporary setback at worse IMHO. Republicans will have to defend the teabagger class of 2010 in 2016.
What do you think PBO and the Dems should accept?
If they want to propose some solid policy ideals and try to meet PBO and Dems halfway, then that's one thing. I have the feeling, however, that Republicans are going to spend most of the next two years harassing PBO and trying to undo a lot of what he has already done. If that is the case, then I WANT him to obstruct the Republicans on that and then, I guess, the people will get to decide in 2016 if he made the right moves. I wouldn't get hung up on opinion polls about 2016 quite yet, especially since a majority of the voters were Republican (and most of them part of their teabagger base at that).
I don't see a lot of areas for common ground with this bunch
It's just the amount that we will get screwed by the GOP that remains to be seen. I expect that Obama will vigorously defend ACA and Dodd-Frank unless there are a few bipartisan fixes to make. I just can't see any other real room for discussion other than, maybe, immigration reform, which will probably end up being worse than the already lacklustre proposal approved by the Senate. Everybody is concerned about Keystone XL, which may yet get approved even though its benefits have been wildly overstated. I would just be prepared to have to deal with some budget cuts in terms of social spending and stand offs. I'm sure Obama and the Dems will try to mitigate them but the Republicans will, in the end, win some more cuts. I hope that the Dems obstruct more than not. If the public rejects what the Republicans try to enact, they will support PBO's vetoes.
My theories
1. Ebola (fear!)
2. ISIS (fear!)
3. Low Democratic voter turnout (a problem which continues to plague us).
