John McCain is like Lucy with her football and we're like Charlie Brown hoping to finally kick it

Every time we keep hoping for him (and in some cases, Lindsey Graham) to be the lone sane and responsible GOP voice in the wilderness, he invariably disappoints us. We need to fold our arms, NOT hold our breaths, and WAITS until he actually does something productive and responsible before we start canonizing the guy. He is a GOPer first and foremost and his loyalty to McConnell and the RNC (and even to Trump) seems to be higher than that to the country.

My head is about to explode

thinking about how, if Hillary or Barack had done ANY of the things Big Orange has been doing as of late, the right-wing would've shredded them politically by now. The Russia stuff alone probably would have led to an impeachment vote before Hillary took office.

Uh.....he's President, isn't he?

If he wanted a one-month delay on the ban, his handlers could have written it a different way before giving it to him to sign, right? Of course, a Travel ban like this hasn't been in place ever, so why would another month have made any difference anyway? An illegal EO is still an illegal EO whenever it is enacted.

Oh no. I was being mostly sarcastic

Having lived through the Bush/Cheney years, however, it's hard not to worry about the ability of the GOP- in tandem with the press- to put just the right amount of lipstick on "the pig" of the Republican Party brand to keep their voters line and enable the GOP to keep winning elections. I'm sensing- or at least hopeful- that Trump is so unhinged and out of control that they won't be able to keep him under control and and from ruining what has mostly been a successful gig for them for so many years. I think that Trump is the ultimate manifestation of the Republican Party- all of the things they think and stand for that they've mostly been able to hide under a false veneer of "patriotism", "traditionalism", and, of course, "family values." Trump IMHO is like the loudmouth Fox-watching Uncle at the Thanksgiving Dinner that the rest of the family hates to be around but has to put up with because they are family. I'd say that the press has seemed to be a bit more critical of him than they were of Bush/Cheney for many years but I'm worried that they will eventually cave to his authoritarianism, especially if another attack occurs or if bullies them somehow into submission. The press is still occasionally throwing out a false equivalence here and there between stuff Trump is doing and stuff Democrats and/or previous Presidents have done to excuse some of his behavior and some pundits seem to think that, while some of Trump's actions seem off-the-wall or risky, they also may well be a "fresh" way of doing things or possibly part of a more masterful strategy with more depth than what we can see on the outside (i.e. multi-dimensional chess), although that is quite likely NOT the case and Trump is actually probably more WYSIWYG

This is idiotic IMHO

and BTW I hate so-called progressives/liberals whom seem to completely skate over all of the awful things Republicans are doing daily only to attack Democrats if for no other reason to complain that Democrats didn't stop Republicans for doing something regardless of whether or not they actually had the power to do so.

I have honestly tried to "listen to both sides"

but I just can't do it- because "the other side" says or does things that are so repugnant, mean-spirited, hateful, or out of touch with reality that it's flat out impossible to listen to for more than a few seconds. In this country, it seems like we have divided ourselves into pretty much two opposing camps: Progressives/Democrats whom, on the whole, live in reality, generally try to make things better for most people in the country, and genuinely seek cooperation and consensus. There are a few conservatives/Republicans whom, though I tend to disagree with them most of the time, generally live in reality and have some ability to listen to reason and work towards the common good. And then you have a much larger group of radicals on the right-wing of the spectrum whom are mostly in charge in Congress and in Statehouses across the nation whom live in their own reality and have their own hateful "vision" for society (which excludes about 99% of the population), which they then try to impose on the rest of us and when they can't get their way through lawful means, they either find a way to change the rules to benefit them or throw sand in the gears of their opponents so that they can't get anything positive done, all in the name of being "the loyal opposition". How do we reason with these people? I have no f***king clue. I'm glad that Democrats- to the extent that they have any power left- are using whatever tools they have left to fight. And it seems to be helping. Republicans had to change the rules (cheat) to get many their nominees through (faster) due to Democratic obstruction and ACA repeal seems to be losing steam. Plus, the Democrats have pledged opposition to Trump's SCOTUS pick and people are getting out into the streets, getting up "in the grills" of Republican represenatives and calling them out. I'm not saying that it's not going to get worse but things seem to be looking up a bit. If we are able to do nothing else, the least we can do and pressure Democrats to do is make things miserable for Donald and his Trumpublicans.

Good

but extremely sad that it's come to this- that the US Media is treating its coverage of our country-the freakin United States of America- as an AUTHORITARIAN country.
