Republican Politicians have become a stain on and threat to American Democracy

This is specifically in regards to an attempt by the Republicans in the Kentucky Legislature to strip Governor Beshear, a Democrat, of his power to issue Executive Orders, but it could refer to any number of things over the years.

They tell us that "Elections have consequences" and that if we want to hold power or do stuff, we have to win elections.

BUT:

They routinely gerrymander and suppress votes so badly, especially in Republican-controlled states, that it's a lot harder to win elections in the first place, so, already, we're at a disadvantage in terms of winning elections.

President Obama went to fill a Supreme Court seat and Mitch McConnell told him, no, and said that we needed to win another election in order to fill it (despite President Obama having already won two terms and was a duly elected sitting President with enough time still on the clock to fill it).

Democrats impeached President Trump, but Republicans refused to convict him because they said that the proper remedy to Trump's wrongdoing is another election (despite the fact that Pence would have replaced him and the WH wouldn't have changed party hands).

In recent years, Democrats WON elections in Wisconsin, North Carolina, Kentucky and Republicans in those states are now saying that we can't do anything there without their permission.

So.......democracy for me (Republicans), but not for thee (Democrats)?!

Hillary won the PV

She was clearly the people's choice by millions of votes. Between everything else that happened (that she herself documents here), there was also a 4-way vote split that enabled Trump to scrape up just enough votes to win the EC in several states that put him over the top. I know that the PV doesn't put a candidate into the office but it does prove that people actually do vote for "neoliberals" like Hillary and Gore, who faced an almost identical outcome in 2000. But when other third-party candidates jump into these races, they help split the vote on (often) the progressive side so that the Republican can scrape by with a plurality of the votes and win the EC and get into office.

Facebook "Fact-Checking" (FYI)

I posted on my Facebook Feed over the weekend about Trump referring to the Coronavirus as a "hoax". I happened to go back to my profile and noticed that my post had been flagged with a "Fact-Check" link to "Check Your Fact", which argued that Trump's "hoax" comment had been taken out of context/misinterpreted (basically a Trump apologetic). I later noticed that this "fact checker" was associated with the right-wing Daily Caller and went back to the internet and found an article from April of last year (which I'm sure probably showed up here at some point too) reporting that the Daily Caller's "Check Your Fact" is being used by Facebook to "fact check" articles. So, yes, this *is* a very real thing that Facebook is doing.

Note: I'm NOT planning to leave Facebook and not interested in any replies advising me to quit it, but I just wanted to share this story and point out that it IS a very real thing and I expect that we'll see more of it throughout this Election season.
