The "base" must be pretty depressed right now (we should hope)

After all of their gun-toting, tri-cornered hat(e) rallies against everything Obama for the past 3+ years and the 2010 midterm elections that swept teabaggers into office nationwide (and in Congress), they STILL wind up with a Republican "moderate" for their party's nominee for their 2012 rematch against the Kenyan Socialist Alinskyite usurper! I wonder how they're going to make lemonade with those lemons?

What I don't get

is how they think "Obamacare" + a "public option" is fine for the elderly but not o.k. for everybody else? If anything, the situation should actually be reversed. Although I think that a "Medicare-for-all" single payer system should be implemented for EVERYBODY, "Obamacare" makes way more sense for younger adults because medical expenses are, in most cases, much less (in terms of need) than for the elderly, and they can afford to pay more out of their pockets for health insurance than retired elderly persons living on a fixed income can. Medicare- in its current form- is plenty fixable if you had people working together whom actually agree that preserving Medicare in its current form is the desired outcome. Republicans have wanted to kill Medicare for decades and they are eager to declare that Medicare is broken and just kill it. The Republicans, as usual, have everything a**-backwards.

How about:

"Congratulations. Your Republican Party has once again spat in your face by nominating a Massachusetts RINO who signed a healthcare law just like Obamacare. You should show them how you feel by organizing a write-in campaign for (insert your friends' favorite politician)."

Could Mitt Romney explain why he wants to be POTUS if asked?

I honestly don't know why he's running for POTUS and/or what he plans to do if elected. Has he ever offered an explanation to anybody anywhere?

They are living in a totally different reality

they HAVE to be. There is no other explanation. When I heard today that Mitt Romney was accusing PRESIDENT OBAMA and the Democrats of being the ones conducting a war on women, I flipped out. We are truly through the looking glass if that's what they honestly believe. The sad thing is that their cult followers (and a few gullible "low information" voters ) will probably believe it and add it to their repertoire of attack lines. The level of projection they are currently engaged in is truly stunning IMHO! Romney seems to be making a strategy out of it now.

If I was a Fox News viewer or hate radio listener and I accepted everything they said without question, then it would be impossible to believe that President Obama and the Democratic Party is nothing short of evil incarnate and I guess, with that sustained level of propaganda assault, it would be impossible for anybody else to think otherwise. That stuff is simply toxic.

Republicans would have us believe

that the American economy was humming along nicely until Barack Obama comes along and essentially plunges a dagger (stimulus) into its heart and created all the economic problems we've had in this country since 2008 and, in some cases, for more or less the past 30 years. When they (and their allies) go on cable news and hate radio shows railing about what an economic catastrophe President Obama has been for the country, WHAT-THE-HELL are they actually talking about? What single thing (or things) has President Obama specifically done that has made things worse in this country and/or prevented it from recovering from the Great (Republican) Recession that began in 2008? It's maddening that Republicans can just go around saying this stuff but never have to actually explain anything and it's infuriating that they act like the Bush (P)residency- that most of them enabled non-stop in every way, shape, or form for 8 years- never existed and that the ballooning of the deficit all happened on President Obama's watch and/or resulted from his policies.

This year

AND last year (in both the House AND Senate). Why is it whenever something in government needs to be fixed, the Republican *solution* is either so totally unrealistic and out-of-touch or is basically no solution at all (just kill it)?

They live in this weird reality in which every senior is filthy rich and could easily afford the kind of health care that an advanced age ultimately requires but they just choose to simply rely on help from a government program, albeit one that they've actually been paying into for their adult working lives.

Well, whatever reality they're living in certainly is NOT the one in which the rest of us are..........

I think that the whole running the government like a business mantra is completely idiotic. Government was not designed to be a business nor can it be run like one- unless what the Republicans are saying is that they prefer a dictatorship (which we, of course, suspect that they do as long as it's being run by THEM).

I agree with you too about Mitt being seen as a "harmless moderate". IMHO we need to make sure that people hear Grover Norquist's quote about just need a President who will sign whatever he sends them and that he would be nothing more than a GOP Tea Party figurehead.

They seem to adopt a "scorched earth" and/or "poison the well" strategies whenever they are out of power- though they are not usually portrayed that way by the corporate media.

Point taken

It pisses me off that the future of this country is hanging in the balance on the whims of people like this!
