Sad

They are giving up on democracy. And, practically speaking, do they not think that, one day, these laws will bite THEM back. *They* won't be in charge forever.

I would say that there were several inflection points

but the moment that COVID became politicized and/or people got more focused on "the economy" and "freedom", any hope of beating COVID quickly like some countries were able to do (i.e. New Zealand, Australia) went out the window. Plus, Trump pitting states against each other for scarce resources, as well different states taking different approaches to it (which may work with some things but not with airborne viruses and mobile vectors like people) undoubtedly made its continued widespread presence inevitable. If Hillary had been POTUS, we may still have had an outbreak on our hands, both in terms of the virus as well as political insanity from the likes of Ron DeSantis and Gregg Abbot (among others), but she would have been undoubtedly way more responsible and able to ensure that resources were available despite the perceived shade of color or voting record of each individual state and may have been more effectively minimized. At the least, she would never be caught standing in front of a podium musing about the potential curative properties of bleach or other untested/unproven "remedies" like HCL.

Some Republicans haven't even made it through their Denial Phase

A sizable number of House Republicans and a handful of Senators literally tried to overturn the election- and would have if they could have. And their former ringleader sicc'd a mob on Congress to prevent them from certifying the election, leading to the loss of human life. Many of them still can't openly admit that Biden was the legitimately elected winner of the last election without hemming and hawing so as to avoid Trumpublican fury. If I were President *I'd* be extremely leery of working with them too, although it's not like Biden is not trying. Mitch McConnell has already put his foot down hard on anything Biden is proposing. Not sure there is much to work with at the moment, unfortunately.

I wish the media would stop giving the big lie oxygen

Perdue, Trump, et. al need to show us the goods or just shut up, not continue to be invited onto news shows to spew their lies. They have nothing to show because there was nothing to show nor any tangible evidence that the GOP- which controls Georgia- were "in the tank" for Joe Biden or Jon Ossoff and help facilitated fraud. The GOP would have put out reams of evidence of fraud if they had it- but obviously they didn't. As we knew even then, they were kings and queens of voter suppression and disenfranchisement. If they could have legitimately overturned the results of that election, it seems like they wouldn't have hesitated to do so. But they didn't have anything so they couldn't have fraudulently manufactured tens of thousands of votes to give it to Trump without creating a massive uproar that would have cost even them their jobs.
