I feel exactly the same way. I can't stand "Johnny(or Jane)-come-latelys, especially when they have zero power to actually do anything but pen useless articles that nobody in the modern day GOP is going to listen to.
IMHO Colin Powell is the most despicable of these types of people, particularly when he could have saved actual lives if he had stood up to the Bush (mis-)administration over Iraq. I was initially convinced that he would talk some sense into Bush and prevent him from rushing into Iraq back in 2002-2003. Instead, he sold himself out to support something he apparently knew was false (or, at best, way overblown). IMHO history will similarly not be kind to Republicans whom decided to put party loyalty over the best interests of the people in this country.
Though I'd worry about her lack of imagination
when it comes to terrorists. Or her overabundance of it when it comes to invading countries like Iraq.
We definitely can do better
We can also do a lot worse (and probably will) if Mike Pence becomes Governor in November. *Ugh*.
These "job creators" are spending untold millions
to put ONE single person out of a job and help elect somebody who has a history of putting people out of a job.
The sweetest revenge would be President Obama winning despite all of this millions spent on his defeat IMHO
Is he too brain dead to know
the the Repubs would never let the Dems pass one? It would have been filibustered on arrival to the Senate. Besides the "budget" is just a blueprint. The individual committees do the actual markup and the Congress ultimately authorizes what can be spent. Far as I know government has still been operating all this time.
Stretching dollars at the grocery store on household supplies, food
I was just kind of curious what everybody is spending at the stores nowadays on household supplies and food? My wife-who handles the shopping- routinely walks in the door every other week with approx. $400-450 worth of items for a grand total of $800-900/mo. which is, frankly, killing our household budget. For reference purposes, this is a 5 person household: Two thirty-something adults, a 5-year old and two teenagers. Is this extreme and/or out-of-sync or pretty much par for the course? My wife and I seem to disagree about what is "normal" (relatively speaking) for families our size to spend. I would be interested in hearing others weigh in on this.
I agree
I mostly talk about it in regards to Republicans but I believe that Congress should be able to be debating things more so that we the people can decide we want for this country. It's what they're supposed to do (I thought). Too much wheeling and dealing takes place behind closed doors while "gangs" come up with the final bills that get signed into law. I want to see the lawmaking process become more transparent.
Also, people should really know what exactly is in Ryan's "austere" budget (and that Romney supports it) IMHO.
My thoughts on the race so far
With all of the mixed results polling out there and the relative freshness of the general election campaign between President Obama and Mitt Romney, it's pretty difficult to make out what the actual *state* of the race is, however, based on most of the state polling, President Obama seems to have an early edge over Romney, which most incumebents usually enjoy. The national polling seems to indicate a tighter race with President Obama and Mitt Romney neck-and-neck, though President Obama's approval rating seems to be hanging tight in the upper-40's low 50's, which indicates (so far) there is no deep overwhelming desire to dump him but that the continuing economic doldrums are probably keeping his approval rating at pretty much the same place- not getting worse but not getting a lot better (sort of like the economy right now).
As to why Romney, despite all of his lies and distortions, as well as his overall strange-ish personality, seems to be competitive, my take on it seems to be that most people (unlike us) are not fully plugged into the general election campaign yet and probably won't be until the national conventions this summer. People don't know a lot about Mitt Romney unless they lived in Massachusetts when he was Governor of that state and those that do know probably remember him as a moderate Republican, not a "severe conservative". Also, his past as a "businessman" (most people probably don't understand what "vulture capitalism" really is) makes people think that he might know *something* that President Obama doesn't about the economy and *might* be able to manage it better. His stated economic plan (which most people don't really know yet), of course, consists of Ryan's austere budget and essentially "Bush on steroids".
In summary, I would expect that the race will seem to remain tight (or appear to remain so) until the conventions and especially the debates begin. Once people really start paying attention to Romney's ideas and proposals and see him *perform* on stage next to President Obama, the less enamored of him the public will (hopefully) be and the polls will likely shift more decisively towards President Obama.
I welcome your thoughts and opinions.
What's this so-called "price" that children pay for having gay parents ?
that Mr. (former) "left-of-Ted-Kennedy-on-gay-rights" speaks of? Recognizing that not everybody is exactly the same and that that is o.k.?
What the hell happened to the deal from last year
that was supposed to take us through to 2013 and allow President Obama to raise the debt ceiling without worrying about another vote? Congress could, of course, "disapprove" of it but the deal (I thought) was agreed to in order to prevent another round of "hostage taking". It was also supposed to result in automatic spending cuts. Hopefully, President Obama and the Dems remind everybody about this deal where Boehner said that he got 98% of what he wanted. I guess he is back to collect the remaining 2% he didn't get?
