Republican messaging since 2009:

"Everything that President Obama has done is wrong (in some way)- even if we would have done it ourselves (or did do it in the past)."

August 15, 2012

We need to start accusing Mitt

of being "pro-waste, fraud, and abuse"!

"they LOVE those 'miraculous' gifts and of course want to keep 'em"

and, of course, they're whining like stuck pigs about the Medicare "cuts" Obama made as part of ACA that were taken away from them. Somebody call the whaaaaambulance (and cue the tiny violins)!!!!

and I thought that Republicans were supposed to be the "daddy party". Seems like what they really want are their mommies (and blankies)

We're not really "running out of money" like the right/Republicans want everybody to believe

I'll believe that we are in a serious monetary crisis when and ONLY when:

1. Republicans agree that there is not enough to afford tax cuts for the wealthy
2. Republicans agree that we can't keep affording to give a bunch of money to corporations (corporate welfare)
3. Republicans agree that we can't keep spending a vast fortune on our military and/or start unnecessary wars

It's not always how much money we have/don't have but how it's managed and it seems to me that we're having the money problems that we're having because the spending priorities of our elected officials- mostly Republicans- is seriously screwed up and Republicans are eager to use situations like this to call for drastic cuts in social spending- but refuse to demand cuts in pretty much anything else and/or find other ways of making up any shortfalls.

I'm all for a reasonable discussion regarding the future of Medicare/Social Security, which I believe is eminently possible given sane individuals acting in good faith but the current GOP is NOT geared towards such a discussion and IMHO we need to quickly- and forcefully- shut down any plans that call for the elimination of Medicare/Social Security and get everybody to the table for a real *adult* discussion of the problems with these programs- most of which could probably be easily resolved with a more surgical approach that President Obama and the Democratic Party prefers as opposed to the Republican/Ryan approach of taking a sledgehammer to both of them.

Is the Repubs' "Obama cut Medicare", "blood on his hands" BS getting any traction?

All people currently receiving Medicare have to do is take a look at their benefits and check to see if anything has changed, right? It's been 2 years since PPACA was signed into law. Surely, somebody would have had to notice SOMETHING if their benefits had changed for the worse, RIGHT, and, more importantly, the MSM would have been tripping over themselves to publish a story (probably several ones) about it, right? Was this a major factor in the 2010 midterm races?

If Ryan's plan is, as the pundits describe it, "serious" and "thoughtful"

http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/08/gop-candidates-tip-toe-on-ryans-medicare-plan.php?ref=fpa

why are Republicans from Romney on down trying to "tiptoe" around it and/or diverting attention away from themselves and onto President Obama's bloody "Medicare cuts"? It sort of reminds me of how Republicans treated the "birther" issue (i.e. avoiding the issue directly but subtly encouraging their base to keep running with it because it was helping them politically against President Obama). It seems like they're trying to engage "stealth mode" on the issue. Make no mistake about it, they want it.

President Obama and Democrats DO have an alternative to Ryan's Budget/vouchers:

It's called Medicare and has been around for over 40 years!

August 13, 2012

By the time that this Election is concluded in November

I will already be sick of hearing about how "serious" Paul Ryan is and how "serious" his budget proposal is, how it's time to have a "serious" discussion about the future of this country when it comes to the budget, etc!

Seriously........
