Question (re: Medicare vouchers)

Are there any insurance companies whom have come out and said that they would even insure retirees under a hypothetical Ryan voucher plan? Kind of something that you think that Ryan would want to make sure before he introduced his *bold* idea and Congress voted on his plan, right?

Hells to the no!

Biden is much better suited to taking on Ryan IMHO- he can speak with the most authority on middle-/working-class concerns, plus he can show Ryan up on foreign policy. He's EXACTLY who we need in that debate and on the stump. Anyway, Obama changing his VP pick in response to Ryan would send the message that we're desperate/worried and that is NOT what we need now (and it's not true in any event) We need consistency and stability and Obama/Biden have been a great time for the past 4 years. No reason whatsoever to change that now. The debates between Joe and Paul are going to be delicious- though probably nowhere near as fun as the ones between Barack and Mitt. Game on!

When Romney/Ryan

start drawing somewhere close to the kind of crowds- not just filled with teabaggers- that President Obama drew in 2008 (and typically draws whenever he's out on the trail), I'll maybe kind of start to believe that they may have a chance to win. Romney may have gobs and gobs of money at his disposal but President Obama has a better ground game. Romney can blanket the airwaves with thousands of negative ads attacking President Obama but what can he say about President Obama that hasn't already been screamed at the top of teabagger/Fox News lungs since 2009? They've thrown everything AND the kitchen sink at President Obama and most people still like him even if they are slightly worried about the economy and jobs (which President Obama has little control over, particularly with the Republicans obstructing anything that might help). The only thing that I think that we need to really worry about is getting people to the polls (which Romney's made a little easier with Ryan on the ticket) and making sure our voters can vote. If we can minimize voter suppression/disenfranchisement, I think that we'll do o.k.

Has Mitt "snatched defeat from the jaws of (maybe) victory" again?

Lemme see if I get this straight: Romney announces Ryan as VP but then quickly turns around and says that he's NOT going to run on the Ryan budget and that they are both going to come up with something different............to be announced at some future date......................

I wonder if that was a fastball that he threw right over the teabaggers' heads and did any of them notice it? Picking Ryan was undoubtedly done to get the teabaggers firmly on board- because they (and Grover Norquist) love his "serious" budget- but then he also comes out quickly and tells everybody he's not going to push it and come up with.........something else, so what's he going to have accomplished in the end but make the teabaggers mad at him again? I mean, they all went apoplectic the moment his spokesperson acknowledged the existence of "Romneycare". I wonder what they will do when they find out that they've been "had" again by Romney? The Dems are still presumably going to run on the Ryan budget which, in light of this latest statement by Romney is going, to put them in a vice by forcing them to cough up what their new "plan" is going to be and/or disavowing Ryan's budget. Seems to me that Romney has boxed himself in...........again.

Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

Wonder what the wingnuts will think of THIS?

If his strategy wasn't to pick Ryan because of his *budget* proposal to excite the GOP base, then what the heck was it? The GOP base (and Grover Norquist) wants the Ryan budget, so why would Mitt turn around and tell everybody, "Hey, I just picked the guy with the awesome budget proposal that you all like but I'm not running on it."

Thankfully the Obama campaign and DNC aren't going to avoid running on it. Mitt/Paul are now stuck in a position where they are going to have to disavow it (and make the teabaggers mad) or embrace it (and make indies/moderates mad). Or tell everybody that they have another top-secret plan that they aren't going tell us about? Checkmate!

New National CNN Poll via TPM Poll Tracker (that puts Ras to shame):

President Obama: 52%
Mitt Romney: 45%

I don't get that President Obama LIKES wars

but he inherited two from Bush and he felt obligated to wrap them up in an orderly manner. I am concerned about the Iran situation but if he really wanted to go to war with Iran, we'd probably already be in it- though how any sane or reasonable person could want a military entanglement with Iran (which would likely go regional) is beyond me. I just have a bad feeling that we're going to get dragged into something there by Israel, whose current government seems to be chomping at the bit to pick a fight with Iran. I would suspect that we would see an attack on Iran as a near certainty under Romney.

New Ras poll (according to Talking Point Memo's Poll Watcher) FWIW:

Romney: 47%
Obama: 43%

What's his drug of choice over there? Must be some good stuff.

I went to the Rasmussen site to try to find a link but can't find one for this particular poll (for 8/8/12). It just showed up on my iPhone notifications. As with any poll from Ras, I wouldn't put much stock in it but just thought I'd pass it along in case the Republicans and corporate media start bringing it up throughout the day.

Neither John Paul nor Walesa

are running for POTUS.

What do they have to do with this election? Does Mitt see himself as an equal of either man?

"War on religion" seems to have succeeded the much ballyhooed "War on Christmas". When is Mitt saying that the FBI/ATF last raided a church and/or thrown people in jail for practicing their religion? I'm sorry but telling businesses/organizations (with some exemptions) to start covering contraception for their female employees as part of preventative care is NOT conducting a "War on Religion" by any means.

This is just like like the NRA campaign to convince us that him not pushing any gun control measures during his first term just means that he WILL be pushing it in his second term.
