Mad_Machine76's JournalSame thing with the Kerry swiftboating
and the Clinton/Obama rumor/scandal mongering. But then the press wouldn't have anything "fun" to report on and they'd have to endure RWNJs endlessly accusing them of having a "liberal bias" (not that they don't anyway), right? It would be nice though if, instead of everybody getting their knickers into a twist and demanding that heads roll on the mere basis of an allegation(s) that our leaders would start demanding a real inquiries and thorough investigation of facts whenever something is alleged before throwing good, decent people out of jobs and ruining peoples' reputations. Too much to ask for?
I want somebody whom can win
and right now Clinton looks to be the stronger (potential) candidate. Our goal should be keeping the Republicans out of the WH. That's what matters the most to me at the moment. She has the gravitas that none of the other potential (who are the others anyway) candidates have. What I'm worried the most is that she won't end up running and we'll find ourselves scrambling for a candidate that might not be able to effectively handle the right-wing noise machine. OTOH the potential Republican "bench" (Santorum? WTF?) seems pretty shallow as well, so............... But make no mistake about it, the Republicans are going to be cutthroat about winning the WH in 2016 like they were in 2000. We need to be careful about who we nominate. Hillary to me seems like a logical extension since she came VERY close to winning in 2008 but I just don't know if she will run. I suspect that many people are holding back from announcing for 2016 because they are unsure if she will run. I'm willing to entertain other possibilities but so far there is nobody with the kind of gravitas she has in view, at least at the moment.
Congress imposed restrictions on transferring
prisoners as I recall and it was a veto-proof vote. He says he wants to close it. Do you honestly believe that if Congress removed the restrictions tomorrow and he could shut it down, he would refuse to do it? Bush left him with a legal and moral nightmare that Congress (mostly Republicans) have not allowed him to fix.
Good
This means that the Republicans might expand the EITC and/or raise the minimum wage? Right?
Yeah
I don't understand how they get away with it other than they can- but they shouldn't be able to. It would be nice if somebody would start questioning THAT more
It's not a "broken promise"
so much as a "thwarted" one-and he got little support from his fellow Dems. Hopefully, the tide is turning.....
Republicans act like
Because they control 1/3 of the federal legislative process, everybody else should just STFU and just do what they want them to do. Their no-compromise obstructionist attitude just doesn't work with divided government (or democracy) unless their goal is just to blow everything up (which it sort of seems like it is). Also, it is sort of hard for the Senate to pass much when they are being blocked by filibusters against anything they don't like- which is pretty much everything
Probably don't want to give Republicans another "Benghazi!" to harp on
Not to say that I think we need to go back to peeing our pants about AQ but I would guess that the Administration is being more cautious not only after what happened in Libya on 9/11/12 but also the ridiculous sideshow Issa, et. al are STILL putting on about it, nearly a year later. Not to say that I think that the Administration should be worrying about that really either but if you give a Republican a bone..........
