Didn't NPR already pull a Koch Bros. Documentary

That they (Koch Bros) deemed too critical of them?

December 18, 2014

Wow! Didn't see this coming

Hasn't America been restored by PBO

After Jeb's brother trashed it? No thanks!

Confused, Schizophrenic (largely because of the media and lack of civic engagement)

The public is (mostly) progressive-leaning, yet Republicans control wide swaths of the country legislatively because the Republican base is more engaged in politics and voting in general. Good things are still happening but too much bad stuff too. I feel like we are moving forward (in general) but we also still seem to be taking steps backwards while taking steps forwards and it can be frustrating to observe. I think that the biggest problem is the general lack of civic engagement in this country and the need for more people to be aware of and care about what is happening in this country. Plus, I think that people's view of things is heavily skewed by the way the corporate media controls/presents stuff.

I'm disappointed too

but I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he pushed for this in order to avoid a government shutdown rather than because he's a soulless corporate shill for Wall Street. And, as far as the larger issue of the Democratic Party goes, no single President, no matter how progressive he/she is, is going to be able to do much if they don't have a large progressive (super-)majority to muscle things through. A Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren may scream bloody murder at Republicans for their behavior and may get a few more people's attention but, at the end of the day, they aren't going to make Republicans stop being Republicans any more than President Obama will and vote our way. If we really want some change, we need to hold the WH and elect so many (progressive) Democrats to the Congress that Republicans have virtually no leverage at all, like what has happened to the Democrats here in Indiana.

Aw. Did the press' precious fee-fees get hurt?

After all they do day in and day out to tear him down and they really expect us to care if he did, in fact, go on a profanity-laced rant against the press.

To quote Buffy, "Let me take this opportunity to NOT care!"

Even if the number of significant votes is less than that

It is still MUCH better than Cassidy's record is going to be for the next 6 years. I will concede, however, that she didn't run a particularly good campaign and that she (and other Dems) shouldn't be cowering in fear over Obama (who hasn't done anything to earn the insane level of hate the right-wing spews). Unfortunately, we have a significant number of people on our side not motivated to vote in midterms and people on the other side whom hate their President more than they care about their quality of life (and that of their fellow citizens).

Convenient

How, right after the election, the media is now publishing stories about Obama's supposed "comeback" and how his policies that have been horribly maligned over the past year are working (or at least aren't harming us). Nobody (but us) also seem to mention the fact that the Ebolapocalypse never happened. There was an excellent article (in TNR I believe) that talked about how Obama's politics and policies are often at odds and how the media and pundits freak out about his policies or his apparent slowness to respond though how effective his policies still wind up being. Of course, it's never early enough for a midterm election to show that Obama was right and his critics are wrong.

Extend that further

And it explains their obsession with being able to discriminate against gays and lesbians and/or being able to refuse to provide birth control for women. It's like it has to be their way or it's taking away their religious freedom/engaging in persecution

December 4, 2014

Yup

If we wind up with the same result that most here are upset about, what difference does it make where we started? From where I am, we were lucky to get what we got. Would love Harkin and Schumer to explain what they would have done different that would have made anything different.
