White House Wants Samantha Bee's Show Cancelled

This is ridiculous but to be expected from trump and the idiots in the White House https://politicalwire.com/2018/05/31/white-house-wants-samantha-bees-show-cancelled/

Samantha Bee told the Daily Beast that she “deeply regrets” calling Ivanka Trump a “feckless cunt” on her show.

Meanwhile, Deadline reports that the White House called on TBS to cancel the show.

Said press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders: “The language used by Samantha Bee last night is vile and vicious. The collective silence by the left and its media allies is appalling. Her disgusting comments and show are not fit for broadcast, and executives at Time Warner and TBS must demonstrate that such explicit profanity about female members of this administration will not be condoned on its network.”

I will be irked at TBS if they give into trump and SHS

Wonkette-Jill Stein Robbed You Suckers Blind

Jill Stein is not a trustworthy person. I refused to contribute to her efforts and it turns out that this was the wise move https://wonkette.com/634591/jill-stein-robbed-you-suckers-blind

Drum roll, please, as we now go live to the Internets to learn how this recount booty was spent.

Ongoing litigation, travel costs, and staff salaries are also likely to eat up whatever is left [of the $7 million raised for a recount], meaning those who donated to Stein are unlikely to receive a once-promised chance to vote on how the post-recount money would be spent. Nor have donors been given much of a window into how Stein is actually spending their donations.

The last FEC filing from the Stein campaign was for the month of September 2017. And the last update from the campaign itself came in a post on April 20, in which it said it was down to $932,178 in recount funds.

“It is strange that they would just stop filing reports given they were a legitimate, professional campaign, and despite still having more than a million dollars in cash on hand,” Andrew Mayersohn, a researcher at the Center for Responsive Politics, told The Daily Beast.

Appeals court temporarily blocks online voter registration for Texas drivers

I wish that I could say that I am surprised by this https://www.texastribune.org/2018/05/31/5th-circuit-temporarily-blocks-online-voter-registration-texas-drivers/?utm_campaign=trib-social&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&utm_content=1527796573

Texas will not be required to meet a 45-day deadline to implement online voter registration for drivers — for now.

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday temporarily blocked a lower court ruling that mandated a voter registration system that would allow drivers to register to vote when they renew their driver’s licenses online. The requirement was part of U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia’s ruling that Texas was violating a federal voter registration law — also known as the “Motor Voter Act” — that’s meant to ease the voter registration process.

Pointing to registration deadlines for the November election, Garcia ordered the state to create the online system — the first mechanism for online voter registration in the state — in order to comply with the Motor Voter Act, which requires states to allow people to register to vote while getting their driver’s licenses.

Last week, the state appealed to the New Orleans-based 5th Circuit, which put Garcia’s ruling on hold during the appeals process. That appeal could drag out for months, leaving uncertain whether the online system will be in place ahead of this fall’s elections.

Trump a 10? No, Say Puerto Rico's 4,600 Dead

Trump did nothing to help Puerto Rico and as a result 4600 American citizens died https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2018-05-30/trump-a-10-no-say-puerto-rico-s-4-600-dead

On Tuesday the New England Journal of Medicine published a new estimate of the lives lost on Puerto Rico due to Hurricane Maria: about 4,600. That stands in stark contrast to the 16 deaths the president cited in October, and the official death toll of 64 that the Puerto Rican government has stood by for months.

To put the tragedy in context, consider the death tolls from other recent hurricanes.

Hurricane Camille, one of the most brutal hurricanes to hit the U.S. in the late 20th century, made landfall in Mississippi in 1969 and left about 260 dead. Hurricane Andrew killed about 65 people when it swept across the Bahamas and Florida in 1992. Hurricane Irma left about 130 dead last year; Hurricane Harvey, a companion of sorts to Irma, killed about 110. Hurricane Katrina, which Trump cited as benchmark of catastrophe, left about 1,800 dead after it made landfall in Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi in 2013. Some 3,000 people died in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in September, 2001.

Compared to all of these events, Hurricane Maria represents an epic loss of life. And the New England Journal noted that its estimate of about 4,600 dead on Puerto Rico “is likely to be an underestimate.” It said that the “mortality rate remained high through the end of December 2017, and one third of the deaths were attributed to delayed or interrupted health care.”

Reporters on the ground in Puerto Rico last fall saw this coming. As they toured the island after Maria hit, it was obvious that Puerto Rico’s heavily damaged hospital system and unreliable power grid would conspire to produce deaths well in excess of the government’s (and Trump’s) lowball figure of 16.

America's Presidents, Ranked

Trump is making Buchanan look competent https://www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2018/05/americas-presidents-ranked/

There’s a new poll of presidential experts out that ranks our nation’s chief executives, and Lincoln leads the list with an average rating of 95.03 out of 100. William Henry Harrison got a score of 19.02. I decided to rescale the whole thing going from 0 to 100, with Lincoln on top at Harrison at zero, since, let’s face it, Harrison is sort of zero by definition, right? Besides, I think it also more accurately represents the bottom of the range too.

ACLU, TCRP File Amicus in Tarrant County Voter Prosecution Case

This lady should not be in jail http://texascivilrightsproject.org/aclu-tcrp-file-amicus-tarrant-county-voter-prosecution-case/

FORT WORTH — Today, the American Civil Liberties Union of Texas and the Texas Civil Rights Project filed an amicus brief in support of a motion for a new trial in Texas v. Mason. The defendant in that case, Crystal Mason, was criminally prosecuted and sentenced to five years in prison for allegedly casting a provisional ballot improperly.

“Pursuing felony charges for what appears to be an honest mistake with a provisional ballot is unwarranted and not what the law intended,” said Tommy Buser-Clancy, staff attorney for the ACLU of Texas. “We respectfully urge the Court to grant Ms. Mason a new trial and reconsider its judgment. ”

“Crystal Mason followed the process she believed to be correct by casting her provisional ballot,” said Beth Stevens, Voting Rights Director for the Texas Civil Rights Project. “Ms. Mason does not deserve to have her freedom taken away for an honest mistake in an already complicated process. We urge the Court to reconsider its judgement and grant a new trial.”

There is no evidence of widespread voting fraud in the United States. Recently, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals found only two cases of in-person voter fraud out of 20 million votes cast.
