About Me

I've been a female working a "man's job" (mechanical engineer), stay at home Mom (6 kids), working Mom (6 kids to put through college), unemployed, underemployed, temporarily employed and now working from home! We live on an old, small farm with 2 dogs and 2 cats in the house, variable number of chickens out in the yard.

Things you'd rather not know:

Why is the dog so interested in sniffing and barking at that one open cupboard?

Ryan is about due to once again make a claim to an unbelievable feat; what will it be?

My prediction: he will admit under pressure that yes, indeed, he swam from shore and saved the life of Jack Dawson when the Titanic went down -

and untangled a baby dolphin from a fishing net on the way back.

Did I hear this correctly last night? I think Obama said that Joe Biden had been

in charge of winding down the war in Iraq and getting our troops out of there. If so, then I think Biden deserves a lot of credit for getting the job done quietly. I thought that the end of the Iraq war snuck up on us very quietly. Obama made the announcement, but there wasn't much hoopla. Based on Romney's remarks at his convention, getting out of Iraq might well have been turned into a political football with the Democrats being portrayed as losing the war.

Dolan got to address an empty auditorium after the networks dropped coverage,

Sister Simone was scheduled during the main event and got an ovation.

Up for a challenge?

What you got for groundcover for very dry, very deep shade?

What you got for hanging baskets in very deep shade?

And can someone explain why the English ivy seems to be doing just fine under the porch, but not in front of the porch? I'd love it to spread to cover the dirt in front of the porch, but it's not cooperating.

Those James Carville ads about the Cocktail Party - -

I was really offended by the underlying message that there is no real difference between the Republican and Democratic Parties!

Have you ever been loyal to a particular kind of fart?

Too easy?

Well, that wasn't such a good idea.....

Desperate to get an old dishwasher to work a little better, I threw in a packet of the cleaner made for washing machines.

The plus: the dishwasher looks a lot cleaner and I think it is running a little better

The Big Minus: four pots and pan soak cycles later, I'm still smelling bleach in the machine and on the dishes!

I need some advice re back strain:

I work from home and and on the computer constantly. I'm working on getting up and moving around every 45 minutes. (It's hard to do when I am on a roll and deep concentrating!)

My problem is that I find myself sliding down in my chair, which puts a strain on my back just above the lumbar region. I have the chair cranked down as far as it will go so my feet are on the floor. i have a quilt wadded up between me and the chair back so I am sitting back. I think the problem is that the seat is still too deep; that I end up inching forward and sliding down. I'm working from a laptop so I am looking down at about a 30 degree angle from where I sit.

You donated to Obama, but did you donate to your Congressional candidate(s)?

We need to help him keep the Senate and take the House!
