Time for a visit to the way back machine:

Does anyone else recall when there was wailing and gnashing of teeth when McGovern engineered a change in the rules to ensure that the delegates to the national conventions would be representative of the nation? IIRC, the rules required so many women, so many (then) minorities, etc. Of course, a lot of white guys got left out, and some were so pissed they joined the Republicans. Today, when whites are becoming just one more minority, McGovern's principles are being rewarded.

What was your overall impression from last night?

For me -

from Castro's speech, the phrase "they just don't get it" and the overall demand that everyone get a chance, not just those born to the wealthy and lucky.

From Michelle's speech - the phrase "it's not right" went straight to my gut - Obama gets it!

Borrow money from your parents for college?

Borrow money from your parents for college? I' a mother of 6 kids. I have done my damnedest to limit the money my kids will owe on student loans by paying as much as I could, borrowing as much as I can. I drive a 12 year old used truck and I throw a cover over my couch with the large hole in the cushion. My care for my kids did not stop when they graduated high school.

I added 10 older hens to my flock last night -

somehow or another, I ordered 1 rooster this spring and ended up adding 4 or 5 ( I swear I spot a new one evey time I count! Like - how did I order 5 Silver Spangled Hamburg hens and end up with 5 hens and a rooster? The hatchery generally throws in an extra rooster, but then, bow did I get 5 Austrolorp hens and an extra rooster? And just where did those 2 Speckled Sussex roosters come from? ) I've bought from this hatchery for years without any mixups, so I'm not upset.

Anyways, the lady I bought them from just wants 1st year birds for her egg business, so I'm providing a nice retirement home for these ladies. The five Red Sex link birds have been hanging in the hen house, but the 5 Black sex link birds have been wandering around.

And - one of the black chickens actually crossed the road!
