About those problems with the ACA roll-out - a little context -

my husband works for a tiny division of a large company. Health care insurance was formerly tied to the nearest local plant, this year the insurance was transferred to the main office.

Last year we missed the sign-up because we fell into a crack. Every time we signed up, a computer transferred us to the wrong policy. It took 6 months to straighten this out. It didn't help that everytime someone manually corrected our policy, a computer somewhere removed us again!

This year, I started calling people in mid-October to check on sign-ups. Then I sent an e-mail.

Yesterday, there was an e-mail back with a link to the PDF for the policy options. Supposedly the paper copies went out last week ( ); still haven't seen them. We now have less than 10 days to go on-line and sign up for 2014.

I read through the PDF very carefully, but still had to go to other sources like the IRS to answer questions about the FSA and HSA.

I had to go to two differnet web sites and a phone call to find out my expenses for last year so I can plan for next year.

It took my husband hours last year to sign up through the web site, so I'm really looking forward to this year.

So, this is what a private system that has been in place for years looks like!

I CAN'T LOG IN TO MY HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANY'S WEB SITE -

They're having technical issues.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Obamacare a/k/a the ACA, but I still think someone should call Congress right f***ing now!

White lies and damn lies:

White lie " You'll be able to keep your current policy *"

*unless it isn't worth the paper it's written on, in which case you'll be offered an actual, decent helath insurance policy at a price you can afford.

Damn lies:

"Saddam has chemical, biological and nuclear weapons aimed at us."

"Don't worry about your student loan; you'll get a good job after graduation and pay it back quickly."

"Work for the city 20 years and you're guaranteed a good pension."

"Sure, the price of the house is steep, but with prices rising you'll be able to flip it at a profit in a few years!"

"Our pipelines are perfectly safe"

"Besides, we can always clean up any spills."

I make my fruit cake with dried fruit soaked in Irish Mist -

so, currents and raisins, of course. Anything else? Dried apples? Cherries?

Walnuts or hazelnuts?

I'm looking for a bit more incentive -

Some years back, Land's End had a create your own model app that allowed you to input your measurements, then see how their clothes would look on you. Has anyone seen such an app that would allow you to see what you'd like like at different weights?

In 1915, I could buy a Model T for $440 ($10,000 in 2013 dollars),

now, because of "minimum safety standards" "For my own good" like four wheel brakes, "safety glass", seat belts, crashworthiness standards, etc, I have to pay upwards of $30,000 to buy a new car!

Thanks, Obama!

( Inspired by all the posts complaining about the elimination of cheap albeit worthless health insurance policies under Obamacare.)

Time for my annual effort to communicate with the dogs:

"It's too cold outside for you to sit on the porch with the door to the house open."

This is a hard concept to get across. They can sit on the unheated covered porch, but they also want to have the door wide open while they do it. They can scratch the door open unless I use the dead bolt, and the dead bolt is a pain in the neck because we use that door a lot.

Question: if Rupert Murdoch's News of the World was tagged for tapping every phone in England,

do we know that Fox News hasn't been doing the same?

Maybe I missed this story, or maybe Fox doesn't bother with wire taps because they make shit up, anyways.

Grandparents looking for Christmas gifts? My daughter just posted some suggestions:

her in-laws asked what she wanted most for the little one, and she suggested family memberships to the local zoo and museums.
