Yahoo: Clinton unity train leaves station without Sanders

https://www.yahoo.com/news/clinton-unity-train-leaves-station-000000507.html?soc_src=social-sh&soc_trk=tw

On Monday in Cincinnati, Hillary Clinton gave a populist economic speech calling for higher taxes on rich people and tough regulations on Wall Street.

Yet Sen. Bernie Sanders, who pushed Clinton to the left on those very issues during the long primary season, was nowhere to be found. The presumptive Democratic nominee was flanked by Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who has possibly more leftist credibility on the issue of income inequality than anyone but Sanders. “I’m with her!” Warren cried as the crowd roared.

As Sanders refuses to fully back Clinton, weeks after she clinched the nomination, her campaign has had to launch its party unity strategy without him. At the national level, Clinton appeared with Warren, and will soon rally alongside President Obama and, later, Vice President Joe Biden. Both are incredibly popular among Democrats.

Meanwhile, Clinton’s local campaign teams in Florida and other states are arranging joint phone banks and cookouts to bring Sanders and Clinton supporters together to organize against Republican Donald Trump — even in the absence of Sanders’ endorsement of Clinton.

There's an election to be won.

Trump wants convicted rapist to address wankers at GOP convention

http://www.mediaite.com/online/trump-campaign-reportedly-wants-bobby-knight-mike-tyson-mike-ditka-for-gop-convention/

According to Bloomberg, the Trump campaign is looking to bring in a “broad slate” of celebrities and sports stars.

And those sports stars apparently include Bobby Knight, Mike Tyson, and Mike Ditka.

...

Now, some people have already taken note of Trump inviting Tyson, a convicted rapist, to the convention. But Trump has defended Tyson before, and made some comments at the time of his sentencing arguing that Tyson was “railroaded” by the young woman who he was convicted of raping.

Apparently the 75% disapproval rating amongst women isn't high enough.

Constructive criticism for Bernie Sanders: start keeping your promise to help defeat Donald Trump

Senator Sanders, on June 9th you were promising to do everything you could to defeat Trump.

http://www.mediaite.com/online/sanders-does-not-concede-primary-pledges-to-do-everything-in-my-power-to-beat-trump/

Now, three weeks later, you're making the same empty promise and making excuses for not actually doing anything to defeat Doald Trump.

http://www.rawstory.com/2016/06/tapper-calls-out-bernie-are-you-truly-doing-everything-you-can-do-to-defeat-donald-trump/

“Media focuses on politics as a game,” Sanders replied. “What we are talking about and what this whole campaign is about is transforming the United States. Dealing with the issues that led to Brexit. Understanding why the middle class continues to decline,” adding that he is trying to “build a strong progressive political movement that takes on big money interests.”

“With all due respect, Senator, I’m not viewing this as a game,” Tapper replied. “I’m looking at the fact that I talk to your supporters all the time and many of them do not want to vote for Hillary Clinton, and they feel very negatively towards her. And if it is important to you, as you say it is, to defeat Donald Trump, I wonder if you are truly doing everything you can do to defeat Donald Trump.”

You don't get credit for promising to help defeat Trump. Those are platitudes, not actions. You are a politician, and politician's promises are worthless without the will to act on them.

Note: when you criticize Clinton on policy--going so far as suggesting she's not on the side of workers and the people-- but refuse to criticize Trump on policy, only on his rhetoric, you are not keeping your promise, quite the opposite actually.

You will get credit in direct proportion for what you do to help defeat Donald Trump.

You do not owe Hillary Clinton anything, but if you keep this up she and the Democratic party won't owe you or your movement anything either. Your choice to be an ally, or not. But you have to act as an ally to be treated as one.

Software glitch plus question on "do not interfere with forum moderation"

1) I got a mistaken (I think) notice of my account being flagged for review because of a hide, apparently that automatic email gets generated from a feed that doesn't take into account hides that get overturned by admins (as you can see, I'm still posting)--so apparently there's a mismatch between totals of hidden posts, total of hidden posts upheld on appeal, accounts being flagged, and notifications of accounts being flagged.

Also, the first hide message I got said "don't worry, no big deal"--then it got overturned, as noted above, and then the next one said pretty much "bam you're suspended." Seems a bit incongruous--even if that first hide had not been overturned--to go from "don't sweat it" to auto suspension. If someone's on thin ice the notices should reflect that.

2) One unfortunate side effect of the simple "post removed" erasure is that people don't see what posts are considered over the line on particular rules. Certainly there's been no shortage of toxic complaining about jury results (I've been guilty of this myself) but the way the rules are drafted, any post that even tries to say "hey guys, this kind of post is being deemed a violation of rule xyz, probably best to not do it anymore" is prone to get punitively zapped even though the intent could be to actually aid forum moderation rather than interfering with it. And just to get meta about the meta, how would people know that that particular rule is being strictly enforced to the letter unless they inadvertently break it?

Brussels rejects Boris Johnson 'pipe dream' over single market access

Source: Guardian (UK)

European diplomats have dismissed claims from Boris Johnson that the UK could negotiate access to the EU single market without obeying any of the rules.

“You cannot have your cake and eat it,” said an EU diplomat, echoing a phrase the former mayor of London used during the campaign and which looks set to come back to haunt him.

In a further blow to the leave camp’s credibility, Germany’s leading business group distanced itself from Johnson’s suggestion that German business expected Britain’s free trade with Europe to continue seamlessly.

DNC presidential primary voting reform--where do you stand?

It looks like there will be three broad subjects when it comes to reforming the presidential primary process for the Democratic primary:

1) reduce or eliminate the influence/numbers of superdelegates;

2) get rid of traditional caucuses in favor of more inclusive, higher turnout primary-like voting

3) ban all closed primaries and make all primaries open to independents and Republicans

Which of these do we favor?

World’s Largest ‘Fart-In’ Is Planned for Hillary Clinton’s Acceptance Speech in Philadelphia

Source: Truth Dig

Philadelphia: Cheri Honkala, the leader of the Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign, announced that her group was organizing the world’s largest “fart-in” to be held on July 28 at the Wells Fargo Center during Hillary Clinton’s anticipated acceptance speech for the Democratic nomination.

“We will be holding a massive bean supper for Bernie Sanders delegates on American Street in my Kensington neighborhood on the afternoon of July 28,” she said. “We are setting up a Clintonville there, modeled on the Hoovervilles of the 1930s where the poor and unemployed built shanty towns. The Sanders delegates, their bellies full of beans, will be able to return to the Wells Fargo Center and greet the rhetorical flatulence of Hillary Clinton with the real thing."

Honkala said she would issue an invitation to Sanders to join the bean supper, which she is calling Beans for Hillary. She has asked donors to send cans of beans to 1301-W Porter Street, Philadelphia, Pa., 19148.

...

Chris Hedges, an author and activist who is an ordained Presbyterian minister, will open the Beans for Hillary meal with a nondenominational prayer.

Anti-Clinton protest organizers to hold giant "fart in" in Philadelphia during convention

“Any remaining beans will be served to the homeless, although we will, of course, be urging Sanders delegates to eat as much as possible,” Honkala said.

Chris Hedges, an author and activist who is an ordained Presbyterian minister, will open the Beans for Hillary meal with a nondenominational prayer.

“I am happy to bless a meal that will be put to such effective political use,” Hedges said.

I have no idea why the entrenched establishment voters don't take this crowd seriously.
