Obama to lay out climate change plan in speech on Tuesday

By Steve Holland
WASHINGTON | Sat Jun 22, 2013 5:55pm EDT
(Reuters) - President Barack Obama said on Saturday that he will outline a climate change plan on Tuesday centered around reducing pollution from carbon emissions as he attempts to make good on a pledge for his second term.

"This Tuesday, I'll lay out my vision for where I believe we need to go - a national plan to reduce carbon pollution, prepare our country for the impacts of climate change and lead global efforts to fight it," he said in a White House video.

Obama made tackling climate change a top priority in his inaugural address in January when he began his second term. His speech will be at Georgetown University, the day before he goes on a three-nation tour of Africa.

In his video message, Obama outlined what would be a major national effort to address climate change. He said scientists will be needed to design new fuels, farmers to grow them, engineers to devise new sources of energy and workers to build the foundation for a clean energy economy.

out than I realized. Also finding out more about my politics in one day than I ever thought possible. Peace.

In Cairo, Egypt's Jon Stewart hosts 'Daily Show's' Jon Stewart

CAIRO - Jon Stewart took his politically engaged American satire to Cairo on Friday, appearing on a show hosted by the man known as "Egypt's Jon Stewart," who has faced investigation for insulting the president and Islam.

Among barbs aimed at Egypt's ruling Islamists and others, Stewart praised host Bassem Youssef for taking risks to poke fun. "If your regime is not strong enough to handle a joke," he said, "then you don't have a regime."

Obama Administration Urges Hong Kong To Act Soon On Edward Snowden Extradition

Source: Huffington Post

WASHINGTON, June 22 (Reuters) - The United States pressured Hong Kong on Saturday to act soon on its request to extradite former U.S. government contractor Edward Snowden to face espionage charges.

"If Hong Kong doesn't act soon, it will complicate our bilateral relations and raise questions about Hong Kong's commitment to the rule of law," said a senior Obama administration official. (Reporting By Steve Holland; Editing by Paul Simao)

Where is Nance anyway? Got run off of here, I believe. Anybody know?

I always enjoyed her postings immensely. Shame she's not still around.

Count me as a dyed-in-the-wool, Yellow-dog, Alan Grayson/Elizabeth Warren/Bernie Sanders Democrat.

I know my history. I know my civics. I know my country. I know it has been in distress for many, many years now. If that makes me a pearl-clutcher, that is a badge I will wear with honor. I would rather be that than a Pollyanna any day. Other than that, my garden is doing very nicely. Got some great day lilies in bloom. Beautiful.

On edit: I intend to only work for real Democrats in 14.

I have worked on many a campaign over the last many decades, and am quite involved locally with the party. I intend to work only with real progressives, no faux Democrats for me.

God bless their little hearts. Pathetic.
