Secure zones much different for RNC and DNC

Cleveland Secure Zone is much larger than the Secure Zone in Philadelphia.

Cleveland - RNC

Much of Cleveland’s Downtown Will Be a Restricted Zone. But Guns Are O.K.

The City of Cleveland is issuing permits to groups that want to demonstrate at the convention, but protest areas will be hundreds of feet from the Quicken Loans Arena, or “the Q,” where the main events will take place.

Last month, the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio brought a lawsuit against the city, saying that its convention security plan “severely limited” the opportunities for free expression. A federal judge agreed and threw out the plan, resulting in a new agreement that, among other things, expanded the parade route for protesters, which is the area where demonstrators are permitted to march. Also, the number of available time slots for marches were increased and buffers between groups were added.

Christine Link, the executive director of the A.C.L.U. of Ohio, said that the Secret Service participated heavily in the negotiations and that her organization achieved almost all of its goals in ensuring that the government balanced security with the least restrictions. City sidewalks are still open for anybody to carry a poster, speak or march, she said, if they do not block intersections or enter secured areas.

Prohibited items in the larger zone include large bags and backpacks, mace, loudspeakers, tents, coolers and canned goods. Residents, including homeless people, will be given some leeway.

Because of the influx of people and the potential for large protests, Cleveland is bringing in roughly 2,500 law enforcement officers from other cities to bolster its own convention-dedicated force of about 500 officers. It is deploying a video unit to document crowd management and police activity.

Philadelphia - DNC
The Restricted Area in Philadelphia Is Much Smaller, and Protesters Could Be More Visible

The Secret Service has designated a secure zone, which will include the arena, its surrounding parking lot and the adjoining section of Broad Street. It will be fenced off and limited to people with credentials or tickets; banned items include backpacks, balloons, selfie sticks and any weapons.

I was polled last night

They said they had a few questions then after they had my answer about who I was voting for, they quickly finished up with the standard race, age and sex questions.

2 questions - how likely are you to vote in November and who will you vote for.

The polling was done by Matthews, anyone ever hear of them?
The only think I was able to find was in an article in the WAPO.

Had a phone call today asking if I would embarrassed if Trump was President

Duh!

But seriously, I can't believe that we are being polled with such questions.

Yesterday a right to life group called. I asked them if the were serious. After all, the called me. I asked them if theyou were prepared to care for all these babies they were trying to save. That was all it took, click!

Let's put it this way... I don't like the color of your hair, I think it is equated to evil.

So I call the police and turn you in because we don't like your kind.

Try that on and think about it for a while. You of course are perfectly innocent, but that doesn't matter, because you are convinced in a trial of public paranoia.

What I learned after 3 days in DC...

Just returned from 3 days in DC. We went to celebrate Independence Day, it is always big in DC.

The fireworks works were not as spectacular as we hoped, I am sure everyone has heard all the negativity flying about about that and PBS. That's not what this is about.

We love to get lost in the museum exhibits, we have been known to spend a whole day in one exhibit in the American History Museum or another. We stop, we read, we study. So the majority of people come through these exhibits and don't even slow down long enough to know what they are looking at. Others will walk up to an exhibit, look at the artifact and then wrongful tell their friends who have accompanied them. Case in point, an exhibit on the American Revolution I listened to some one tell their friend that a sword in a case was front the TV series Turn. Another told his daughter that the Smithsonian was wrong about the Wright Bothers and where their first flight took place and the a woman debated her husband that the plane in the air and space museum couldn't be Amelia Earhart's because the don't know where she disappeared. The young lady and her friends on the Capitol lawn waiting for the concert thought a National Park Ranger was a state trooper and argued it with her friends.

Dozens of cases like this, it was hard not to correct them or tell most of them to read. If they would only READ! Read the short description next to the item on display.

People are just lazy!

This story is a sad statement on what Americans have become...

Avon hotel clerk's 911 call about ISIS causes intense police response, patron's collapse

AVON, Ohio - A 911 call alleging that a hotel patron pledged his allegiance to ISIS caused panic at an Avon hotel earlier this week.

On Wednesday just before 6 p.m., the Avon Police Department received a 911 call from the sister of a woman working as a clerk at the Fairfield Inn and Suites on Colorado Avenue.

The caller said her sister told her there was a man in the hotel lobby "in full head dress with multiple disposable phones pledging his allegiance to ISIS."

According to police, she repeated that there was a "suspicious mal at the front desk with disposable phones, two of them, in a full head dress."

While on the phone with the sister, police received a second call from the clerk's father also requesting that officers be sent to the hotel.

Officers arrived minutes later to find an Arabic-speaking man standing outside the front doors of the hotel. He was dressed in a 'thobe' and had a cell phone in his hand.

Officers, with guns drawn, ordered the man to get on the ground and drop the phone. At first he didn't respond but police say he eventually complied and laid down.

Officers placed the man in handcuffs and conducted a search. No weapons were found on his body.

Police spoke to the clerk and found out that the man did not, in fact, make any statements related to ISIS. Officers said at that time it was clear there was a miscommunication.
