Nobody handles hecklers as well as the President

Two women were escorted out of an event after heckling President Obama during a speech on college affordability in Syracuse, New York.

He just knows how to handle this sort of thing, I have seen it first hand twice and seen many video clips of heckled speeches.

The hecklers are assholes, but the President knows how to deal with it.

26 Years of Growth: Shanghai Then and Now

Reuters photographer Carlos Barria recently spent time in Shanghai, China, the fastest-growing city in the world. A week ago, he took this amazing shot, recreating the same framing and perspective as a photograph taken in 1987, showing what a difference 26 years can make. The setting is Shanghai's financial district of Pudong, dominated by the Oriental Pearl Tower at left, and the new 125-story Shanghai Tower, China's tallest building and the world's second tallest skyscraper, at 632 meters (2,073 ft) high, scheduled to finish by the end of 2014. Shanghai, the largest city by population in the world, has been growing at a rate of about 10 percent a year the past 20 years, and now is home to 23.5 million people -- nearly double what it was back in 1987. This entry is focused on this single photo pairing, with several ways to compare the two.

The Republicans will not partner with CNN & NBC! - They prefer FOX where facts are not necessary.

The GOP’s governing body approved a resolution on Friday barring NBC News and CNN from partnering with the Republican National Committee in hosting 2016 presidential primary debates.

Members of the RNC, gathered in Boston for their Summer Meeting voted to bar NBC News and CNN from participating in 2016 debates due to forthcoming projects about Hillary Clinton planned by both network. They approved the resolution by a voice vote.

The resolution states that the RNC would not "partner with (CNN or NBC) in the 2016 presidential primary debates nor sanction any primary debates they sponsor."

“We’re done putting up with this nonsense,” RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said ahead of the vote. “There are plenty of other outlets. We’ll still reach voters, maybe more voters. But CNN and NBC anchors will just have to watch on their competitors’ networks.”

Why are the networks partnering with political parties to begin with? If they really wanted to report the news, they would just report the facts and let the parties do what they do!

GOP congressman invites Obama-mask rodeo clown to perform in Texas

By Andrew Rafferty, Staff Writer, NBC News

The controversial rodeo clown who on Saturday fired up a crowd at the Missouri State Fair by wearing a mask of President Barack Obama — and encouraging a bull to run him down — now has a standing invitation to perform in Texas, a Republican congressman said Wednesday.

Then there is this little tid-bit in the article:
Perry Beam, who was in the stands during the performance in Sedalia, Mo., told the Associated Press that everyone “went wild” as fans cheered on the bull as it charged after the masked Obama impersonator.

"It was at that point I began to feel a sense of fear. It was that level of enthusiasm," he said.

Beam estimated that the rodeo emcee used Obama’s name close to 100 times during the show. Fair officials have not revealed the clown's identity.

"It was feeling like some kind of Klan rally you'd see on TV," he told the new agency.

Rand Paul's Top Idea to Win Minority Voters: Attack Indefinite Detention?

How does the Kentucky senator plan to connect with the young and minorities? By talking about Guantanamo, apparently.

Check out this passage from an interview he did with Atlantic alum Joshua Green of Businessweek:

What is your plan to refashion the GOP to draw more minority and younger voters?
All voters, but particularly young people, and often young people who are African American or Hispanic, I think they have a sense of justice, and they sometimes mistrust government with achieving justice. So one of the big issues that I’ve fought here is getting rid of the provision called indefinite detention. This is the idea that an American citizen could be accused of a crime, held indefinitely without charge, and actually sent from America to Guantánamo Bay and kept forever.

I think there is something in that message of justice and a right to a trial by jury and a right to a lawyer that resonate beyond the traditional Republican Party and will help us to grow the Republican Party with the youth. Defending the Internet’s privacy, these are all things that broaden the appeal of Republicans.

Somehow this idiot relates detention to minorities, what's that tell you about him?

Builder of skyscraper forgets the elevator

The Builders of This Spanish Skyscraper Forgot the Elevator

The Intempo skyscraper in Benidorm, Spain—standing proud in this image—was designed to be a striking symbol of hope and prosperity, to signal to the rest of the world that the city was escaping the financial crisis. Sadly, the builders forgot to include a working elevator.

In fairness, the entire construction process has been plagued with problems, reports Ecnonomia. Initially funded by a bank called Caixa Galicia, the finances were recently taken over by Sareb – Spain’s so-called "bad bank" – when the mortgage was massively written down.

In part, that was a function of the greed surrounding the project. Initially designed to be a mere 20 storeys tall, the developers got over-excited and pushed the height way up: now it boasts 47 storeys, and will include 269 homes.

Wouldn't you think you would need an elevator at 20 floors as much as 47?

U.S. Trade Deficit Narrows To $34.2B In June

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The U.S. trade deficit narrowed sharply in June to its lowest level in more than 3 ½ years. Exports rose to an all-time high and imports declined, signs that economic growth is stronger than previously thought.

The Commerce Department says the June deficit fell 22.4 percent to $34.2 billion. That's the lowest since October 2009 and down from May's imbalance of $44.1 billion, which was revised down.

Exports rose 2.2 percent to $191.2 billion, reflecting more sales of manufactured goods and farm products. Imports dropped 2.5 percent to $225.4 billion. Oil imports declined to the lowest level in more than two years.

The smaller deficit could prompt the government to revise economic growth for the April-June quarter up from its initial estimated annual rate of 1.7 percent.

McDonald's Pays $15 an Hour? - Where you ask?

The Magical World Where McDonald's Pays $15 an Hour? It's Australia

Last week, fast-food workers around the United States yet again walked off the job to protest their low pay and demand a wage hike to $15 an hour, about double what many of them earn today. In doing so, they added another symbolic chapter to an eight-month-old campaign of one-day strikes that, so far, has yielded lots of news coverage, but not much in terms of tangible results.

So there's a certain irony that in Australia, where the minimum wage for full-time adult workers already comes out to about $14.50 an hour, McDonald's staffers were busy scoring an actual raise. On July 24, the country's Fair Work Commission approved a new labor agreement between the company and its employees guaranteeing them up to a up to a 15 percent pay increase by 2017.

And here's the kicker: Many Australian McDonald's workers were already making more than the minimum to begin with.

The land down under is, of course, not the only high-wage country in the world where McDonald's does lucrative business. The company actually earns more revenue out of Europe than than it does from the United States. France, with its roughly $12.00 hourly minimum, has more than 1,200 locations. (Australia has about 900).

In reality, how many jobs in America have access to public transportation?

I know the place I work in Suburban Cleveland does not have access to any one who does not have a car.

A majority of workplaces in the country do not have easy access to public transportation. Outside the central urban areas you are out of luck.
