Biden Blasts The Supreme Court For Betraying Common Sense And The Constitution In Gun Ruling
President Biden responded to the Supreme Courts concealed carry ruling by pointing out that it contradicted both common sense and the Constitution.
The President said in a statement provided to PoliticusUSA:
The Supreme Court Is Moving In The Opposite Direction From The Rest Of The Country
Biden was correct. The Supreme Court is moving in the opposite direction from the rest of the country. The vast majority of the American people want common-sense protections from gun violence as the Supreme Court is making it easier for potential mass shooters to carry their weapons in public.
The Supreme Court is broken and their decision today could cost Americans their lives.
It is time to reform the Supreme Court.

I am deeply disappointed by the Supreme Courts ruling in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen. Since 1911, the State of New York has required individuals who would like to carry a concealed weapon in public to show a need to do so for the purpose of self-defense and to acquire a license. More than a century later, the United States Supreme Court has chosen to strike down New Yorks long-established authority to protect its citizens. This ruling contradicts both common sense and the Constitution, and should deeply trouble us all.
In the wake of the horrific attacks in Buffalo and Uvalde, as well as the daily acts of gun violence that do not make national headlines, we must do more as a society not less to protect our fellow Americans. I remain committed to doing everything in my power to reduce gun violence and make our communities safer. I have already taken more executive actions to reduce gun violence than any other President during their first year in office, and I will continue to do all that I can to protect Americans from gun violence.
I urge states to continue to enact and enforce commonsense laws to make their citizens and communities safer from gun violence. As the late Justice Scalia recognized, the Second Amendment is not absolute. For centuries, states have regulated who may purchase or possess weapons, the types of weapons they may use, and the places they may carry those weapons. And the courts have upheld these regulations.
I call on Americans across the country to make their voices heard on gun safety. Lives are on the line.

June 22, 2022 at 4:36 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard
Georgia U.S. Senate candidate Herschel Walker (R) told the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show that there were 52 states in the country while attempting to criticize Stacey Abrams (D) for saying Georgia is the worst state in the country to live.
Said Walker: If you dont believe in the country, leave and go somewhere else. If its the worst state, why are you here? Why dont you leave ― go to another? Theres, what, 51 more other states that you can go to?

GOPers Block Biden's ATF Nominee To Stop Gun Law Enforcement
Having a strong ATF director to enforce gun laws would be a really good thing -- which is why Republicans don't want it.
By Susie Madrak June 22, 2022
Cliff Schecter's been fighting the good fight for gun control as long as I can remember, and he points out what the Republicans are doing to actually stop it.
He talked about how minimal the new gun bill is, calling it "eight percent out of 100."
Cliff talks about Steve Dettelbach, who ran for attorney general in Ohio. He was nominated by Joe Biden to be the next director of the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms.
He said every single Republican on the Judiciary Committee voted against advancing Joe Biden's nominee, Steve Dettelbach. Of course they did. Click here to subscribe to Cliff's channel.

"And if you could, if we would support the ATF because the Republicans have spent the last 20 to 30 years purposely undermining their mission -- not allowing them to use computers. And I'm not kidding you, they had to go through old files that were written by hand. They wouldn't allow them to pass a law where they would hold people responsible for inventory so they could check on guns that were stolen or disappeared
"In other words, if you really want to stop illegal guns from getting out there, there are a lot of ways to do it. Having a strong ATF director who's given the funding, the support, not undercut or attacked would be one of those ways and that's how you know Republicans -- still again, don't get me wrong, vote for the bill they've offered it will save lives, any lives saved are good -- but do not, do not give them credit for trying to save the lives of our babies.
"Do not vote for their bill and go out the next day remind people they're doing everything in their power to still make sure people get guns who are murderers and criminals and terrorists and domestic abusers and drug cartel members and you name it because if they want to stop a lot of this they would support Steve Dettelbach right away."

Opinion: The gobsmacking audacity of the alleged scheme to keep Trump in office
Opinion by Charlie Dent
Updated 10:08 PM ET, Tue June 21, 2022
"Charlie Dent is a former Republican congressman from Pennsylvania who served as chair of the House Ethics Committee from 2015 until 2017 and chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies from 2015 until 2018. He is a CNN political commentator. The views expressed in this commentary are his own. View more opinion on CNN."

If any other federal elected official would attempt to strong arm a state or county election official in a phone call to deliver votes overturning an election in which he was a candidate and were such a conversation recorded and publicly revealed that official would be on the receiving end of a criminal investigation by federal and state law enforcement. Full stop.
snip//
Trump and his minions believed fervently that they could overturn state certified elections by having GOP controlled state legislatures offer alternative slates of presidential electors who would then vote for Trump in state capitols across America, and then deliver those results to the National Archives.
According to this tall tale, Congress would then certify these fake electoral votes, and Donald Trump would be re-elected. The gobsmacking audacity of this alleged scheme is breathtaking in its insanity, and possible illegality, unconstitutionality, and possible criminality. Perhaps Trump and his campaign thought no one would notice.
The bottom line from Tuesday's hearing is these three state officials provided compelling testimony and evidence of a possible criminal attempt to steal the presidential election in the states of Georgia and Arizona.
The big question is what will the Department of Justice do with this information? Will anyone other than those who physically attacked the Capitol be held to account? Will the president be held accountable for inciting his supporters to attack Congress, in a hideous attempt to hold onto power? Will those who orchestrated the events leading up to January 6th be given a pass for their malign actions?
Absent prosecution of those responsible for organizing the conspiracy to overturn the 2020 presidential election and for inciting the violent mob on January 6, a future unscrupulous president might try again and succeed in a naked power grab to subvert the constitutional order and prevent the peaceful transfer of power.

Mo Brooks Delivers Bitter Concession Speech
June 22, 2022 at 8:02 am EDT By Taegan Goddard
Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) delivered an angry, bitter concession speech after media outlets projected Katie Britt the winner of the runoff election to determine Alabamas Republican Senate nominee, saying his defeat was a major victory for the Democrats, the Washington Examiner reports.
Said Brooks: Its always appropriate to congratulate the winners, and some of these winners might be a little bit unexpected, but Id be remiss if I did not congratulate the Alabama Democratic Party for helping to ensure that the Democratic nominee in the Republican primary won.
He added: Congratulations to the Democrats. They now have two nominees in the general election.

Ex-Watergate prosecutor: Trump's infamous call to Brad Raffensperger is enough to send him to prison

So do I really think this is the end of Trump? Should anyone? Hell if I know. I was naive enough to think the Mueller investigation might scuttle his presidency. But Trump no longer has his top consigliere, Bill Barr, around to protect him. And he no longer has the seemingly impenetrable shield of the presidency to keep him out of stir.
But one thing is clear: This mad dog needs to be restrained one way or another, and it has to happen soon or we could be left shaking our fists at his lawless antics for another four, eight, or 80 yearsassuming its possible to isolate his DNA for cloning before his purpling carcass is choppered to the crematory like a SeaWorld orca.
Fingers crossed, folks. Maybe justice will prevail in the end after all. And in a world where we often have a stark choice between pessimism and optimism, Ill lean toward the latter every time. Its the only thing that keeps me sane.

PHANG: You mention that you guys had tapes in the Nixon-Watergate situation. We have a tape, though, right? We have that tape of Donald Trump pressuring Brad Raffensperger. In your opinion, you dont think that thats going to be enough?
AKERMAN: Oh, I think thats enough. No, if youre asking me which of the cases right now, which one is going to send Donald Trump to prison, thats the case. Theres a really neat three-year felony in Georgia that Donald Trump has violated. Prosecutors love tape-recorded evidence because you cant cross-examine it. What is significant, though, with those tapes is, is that when you put it in the context of all of the evidence that the Jan. 6 committee has uncovered. You put that together, Donald Trump has zero defense in Georgia. If I had to put my money on one prosecution thats going to go forward here, that will send Donald Trump to jail, its Georgia. No question about it. The only defense hes got there is trying to somehow pick up on some ambiguity in the tape, that he didnt really mean what he said. But once you look at what he said, trying to get Brad Raffensperger to come up with extra votes to make him the winner in Georgia, and put that in the context of what the Jan. 6 committee has found, I think theyve got a case beyond a reasonable doubt.

State Republicans Resisted Trumps Subversion in 2020. We Got Lucky.
You are asking me to do something against my oath.
Dan Friedman
Donald Trump badgered and bullied Republican state officials, threatened them, lied to them, and lied to others about them. He had his chief of staff, Mark Meadows, and personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, blow up their phones trying to coerce those officials into nullifying Joe Bidens wins in their states. When they refused, he demonized them and siced his supporters on them, which led to death threats, protests at peoples homes, instances of physical intimidation and vile verbal and written attacks on them and their families. Thats according to witness testimony and other evidence presented on Tuesday by the Select Committee investigating attempts by Trump and his cronies to subvert a legitimate election.
To their credit, none of those officialsArizonas House Speaker Rusty Bowers, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and his deputy, Gabriel Sterling, and other officials from closely contested states, including Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Nevadaceded to the presidents demands.
You are asking me to do something against my oath, and I will not break my oath, Bowers said he told Trump, during one portion of the days gripping testimony.
snip//
Trump is still actively trying to demonize and ruin officials who dared to defy him. On Tuesday, he issued a statement calling Arizona Speaker Bowers a RINO and claiming Bowers had agreed with his election-fraud claims in 2020. This was a lie, Bowers insisted. And though Trump failed badly in his efforts to oust Kemp and Raffensperger in this months elections, he may fare better against Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), the committees outspoken vice chair. Cheney trails in polls to a primary challenger. Because she challenged Trumps lies, she looks likely to lose her seat.
The groundwork Trump and his minions have laid in various states since 2020 raises the likelihood that the next coup attempt, by him or someone else, could succeed. The system held, but barely, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said on Tuesday. And the questions remains, will it hold again?

Rachel Maddow said that criminal investigations are not hypothetical for tomorrows 1/6 Committee hearing. They are already happening.
&feature=emb_imp_woyt
Maddow said:
There is been a lot of discussion and commentary and speculation about what the intersection is by this January six investigation that we are seeing all these hearings from. And prosecution, the possible criminal prosecution of people who tried to pull off the scheme. That whole question just looms really large over all of these hearings, over everything the January six investigators have been revealing for the findings that these hearings. What we are going to see tomorrow, at tomorrows hearing, this is the part where that is no longer a hypothetical discussion.
This Georgia stuff, the threats to the workers, the threats to the state workers they needed to make fake fraud, claims change the election results. That is already definitely under criminal investigation. You dont have to speculate about what might happen if any prosecutor decided to look into that. Prosecutors are looking into that. State prosecutors have empaneled a grand jury that is working and possible charges under state law.
The matter is reportedly under criminal investigation by the federal Justice Department as well. Theyve reportedly been interviewing Georgia officials. The pressure on state election officials and election workers, also the forced fake slates of Trump electors that they range from Georgia and six of the states. Those are parts of the Trump plot that we already know are actively under criminal investigation by both federal and state prosecutors working with federal and state grand juries.
That whole question about whether or not the January six investigation is looking at possible crimes but prosecutors are going to be interested in, what we are going to get into tomorrows hearing is the part that is already happening. And what that means for this next hearing that we are going to have tomorrow, we dont yet know. It will be new.
