DeSantis Pleads with Floridians to Get Vaccinated
July 21, 2021 at 3:29 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) made a direct plea to urge people to get vaccinated, noting that 95% of the new COVID cases are among those who are not vaccinated.

Said DeSantis: “These vaccines are saving lives.”

"I believe in the God of Spinoza."

My sister posted this on FB~

Did you know that when Einstein gave lectures at the numerous US universities he was invited to, the recurring question that students asked him was:
Do you believe in God?
And he always answered:
I believe in the God of Spinoza.

The ones who hadn't read Spinoza didn't understand...
I hope this gem of history, serves you as much as it does me:

Baruch de Spinoza was a Dutch philosopher considered one of the three great rationalists of 17th-century philosophy, along with René Descartes in France, and Gottfried Leibniz in Germany.
Here's some of his wisdom:

God would have said:
Stop praying and punching yourself in the chest!

What I want you to do is go out into the world and enjoy your life. I want you to enjoy, sing, have fun and enjoy everything I've made for you.

Stop going to those dark, cold temples that you built yourself and say they are my house! My house is in the mountains, in the woods, rivers, lakes, beaches. That's where I live and there I express my love for you.

Stop blaming me for your miserable life; I never told you there was anything wrong with you or that you were a sinner, or that your sexuality was a bad thing! Sex is a gift I have given you and with which you can express your love, your ecstasy, your joy. So don't blame me for everything they made you believe.

Stop reading alleged sacred scriptures that have nothing to do with me. If you can't read me in a sunrise, in a landscape, in the look of your friends, in your son's eyes... you will find me in no book! Trust me and stop asking me. Would you tell me how to do my job?

Stop being so scared of me. I do not judge you or criticize you, nor get angry, or seek to punish you. I am pure love.

Stop asking for forgiveness, there's nothing to forgive. If I made you... I filled you with passions, limitations, pleasures, feelings, needs, inconsistencies... free will. How can I blame you if you respond to something I put in you? How can I punish you for being the way you are, if I'm the one who made you? Do you think I could create a place to burn all my children who behave badly for the rest of eternity? What kind of God would do that?

Forget any kind of commandments, any kind of laws; those are wiles to manipulate you, to control you, that only create guilt in you.

Respect your peers and don't do what you don't want for yourself. All I ask is that you pay attention in your life, that your consciousness is your guide.

My beloved, this life is not a test, not a step, not a rehearsal, nor a prelude to paradise. This life is the only thing that exists here and now, and it is all you need.

I have set you absolutely free, no prizes or punishments, no sins or virtues... no one carries a marker, no one keeps a record.

You are absolutely free to create in your life heaven or hell.

I could tell you if there's anything after this life, but I won't... but I can give you a tip. Live as if there is nothing after... as if this is your only chance to enjoy, to love, to exist.

So, if there's nothing, then you will have enjoyed the opportunity I gave you. And if there is, rest assured that I won't ask if you behaved right or wrong, I'll ask. Did you like it? Did you have fun? What did you enjoy the most? What did you learn?...

Stop believing in me; believing is assuming, guessing, imagining. I don't want you to believe in me... I want you to feel me in you when you kiss your beloved, when you tuck in your little girl, when you caress your dog, when you bathe in the sea.

Stop praising me, what kind of egomaniac God do you think I am?

I'm bored being praised, I'm tired of being thanked. Feeling grateful? Prove it by taking care of yourself, your health, your relationships, the world. Express your joy!... that's the way to praise me.

Stop complicating things and repeating as a parakeet what you've been taught about me.

The only thing for sure is that you are here, that you are alive, and that this world is full of wonders.
What do you need more miracles for? Why so many explanations?

Look for me outside... you won't find me. Find me inside... there I am beating within you.
Spinoza.

"Be sure and get in on the Covid-19 Super Spreader event of the summer! Ride the Ventilator!"

This State’s Fair Is Set to Be a Cesspool of COVID & the Unvaxxed
TOTAL INSANITY
Thousands of fairgoers could be in peril as organizers forge ahead despite a virus surge and low vaccination rate.

Bad enough that the Ozark Empire Fair went ahead last year when much of the country was closing down. Things are better elsewhere, but they are worse than ever in this area and yet the fair is doing it again this year. Never mind that the Delta COVID-19 variant is rocking Springfield-Greene County with its highest number of COVID hospitalizations in the pandemic—259 with “severe illness” by Tuesday’s count, more than 90 percent of them unvaccinated.

The city of Springfield is a partner in the Route 66 festival, but has no vote in the doings of the Ozark Empire Fair.

And the nine-day event draws tens of thousands of people from Springfield and the surrounding counties. Organizers are seeking to boost attendance with a logo that notes this is Missouri’s bicentennial as a state.

“Summer’s Biggest Party,” it promises.

A retired Springfield 911 supervisor named Bill Blevins put it another way in a Facebook post.

“Be sure and get in on the Covid-19 Super Spreader event of the summer! Ride the Ventilator!”

Tom Brady to Biden: '40 percent of people still don't think we won'

Seems dickish to me. Edit to add: I retract that after seeing video. Who knew he had a sense of humor?!

Tom Brady to Biden: '40 percent of people still don't think we won'
By Morgan Chalfant - 07/20/21 12:22 PM EDT

NFL quarterback Tom Brady joked alongside President Biden at a White House ceremony Tuesday that 40 percent of the country doesn’t believe the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the Super Bowl, alluding to the considerable percentage of Republicans who polls show do not accept Biden’s election victory.

“Not a lot of people, you know, think that we could have won,” Brady joked. “And in fact I think about 40 percent of people still don’t think we won.”

“I understand that,” Biden responded, laughing.

Brady also quipped that people have started calling him “Sleepy Tom,” a reference to former President Trump’s nickname for Biden during the campaign.

A Monmouth University poll released in March found that about two-thirds of Republicans do not believe Biden legitimately won the election after Trump repeatedly cast doubt on the results and claimed falsely that there was widespread fraud in the vote.

Nicholas Kristof, the two-time Pulitzer-winning columnist for The New York Times, is considering a run for Oregon governor.

In recent days, a poll includes Kristof’s name and asks voters how they would feel about a journalist who grew up on a farm running for office. The poll also includes other Democratic hopefuls. Kristof was raised on a sheep and cherry farm in Yamhill County, about an hour southwest of Portland.

Contacted about the poll, Kristof says his friends are attempting to recruit him.

“I have friends trying to convince me that here in Oregon, we need new leadership from outside the broken political system,” he tells WW. “I’m honestly interested in what my fellow Oregonians have to say about that.”

“All I know for sure is that we need someone with leadership and vision so that folks from all over the state can come together to get us back on track,” he adds.

DeSantis downplays increase in COVID-19 cases

DeSantis downplays increase in COVID-19 cases
By Max Greenwood - 07/20/21 09:15 AM EDT

ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) on Monday downplayed the recent spike in coronavirus cases in his state, and criticized public health officials who continue to push unvaccinated Americans to get COVID-19 shots.

“It’s a seasonal virus and this is the seasonal pattern it follows in the Sun Belt states,” DeSantis told reporters at a press conference. He also said that he expects COVID-19 cases to decline next month.

DeSantis’s remarks came as new cases of COVID-19 are on the rise, driven by the spread of the more infectious delta variant. Florida has emerged as the epicenter of the recent surge, with about one in five new cases nationwide coming from the Sunshine State.

Despite the spike in cases, DeSantis has leaned into the same laissez faire approach to the coronavirus pandemic that has earned him praise from conservatives over the past year. His handling of the outbreak has earned him rising-star status among many Republicans, while fueling speculation of a potential 2024 presidential bid.

We've been watching "Clarkson's Farm" on Prime

I think there is only one season (so far?) but I am enjoying it immensely. At times it's LOL funny, it's light, and worth a viewing if you're tired of plotless movies, blood and gore, etc.

Why is Tucker Carlson still on the air?

Why is Tucker Carlson still on the air?

Honestly, a better question might be “Why is Tucker Carlson not in jail?”

On Friday night, Carlson was back on Fox News to welcome COVID-19-”truther” Alex Barenson to his program. Together, the two said that “masks are useless” and nothing more than a symbol that someone is obedient to the government, and claimed that mask mandates have no intention other than to make people scared, and are doing “psychological damage.” They then moved on to say that the vaccines are "declining in effectiveness very quickly," and that the truth about vaccines was being blocked by “tremendous financial pressure.”

snip//

In May 2021 alone, over 18,000 Americans died of COVID-19. Of those who died, only about 150 were people who had been vaccinated. In the same month, more than 107,000 Americans were hospitalized for severe illness attributed to COVID-19. Only 1% of those people had been vaccinated.

It may be too much to charge Tucker Carlson directly with 18,000 counts of manslaughter for his actions over the course of that month, but there is one thing certain: What Carlson is doing is much closer to the actions of Branham or Carter than it is to the teens laughing over the Tide Pod challenge. The frozen food heir is fully aware of the consequences of his actions, He is fully aware of the falseness of his claims. He is fully culpable in the deaths of thousands of Americans.

This is not a case of a broadcaster repeating a mistaken claim, or someone rushing forward with information that is incomplete. Carlson is deliberately, frequently, and constantly providing disinformation to the public that generates real and lasting harm—including death on a massive scale.

There may be no prosecutor in the country willing to charge Carlson for his involvements in these days—though honestly, there should be. But if that’s too much to expect, then certainly it should be a bare minimum that Carlson be treated with the kind of seriousness that was given to a disorganized group of kids that generated 0.1% as many deaths over eight years as Carlson and his ilk produced in a single month, a month that was the least deadly month of the entire pandemic.

Every single platform should feel an obligation to not just disown Carlson, but to prominently feature material correcting his false claims. Every single news program should feel obligated to call out this threat regularly, until it no longer exists. And every single sponsor who puts up a dime for his program should be considered a co-conspirator in his acts.

Biden Administration Moves First Prisoner Out of Guantánamo After Trump Delay
‘COLLATERAL DAMAGE’

A Moroccan man who has rotted in Guantánamo Bay despite being primed for release five years ago has been repatriated. The move, reported by The New York Times, is the Biden administration’s first step toward reducing the population of the wartime prison. Donald Trump reversed Obama-era policies on repatriating detainees after he was elected in 2016, leaving several inmates who had never been charged with a crime in limbo. They included Abdul Latif Nasser, 56, who was handed back into Moroccan custody in the early hours of Monday after being held since May 2002. According to the Times, Morocco has agreed to keep Nasser under strict security measures as a condition of his release. His lawyer, Thomas Anthony Durkin, described the final years of his client’s detention as “collateral damage of the Trump administration’s and zealous Republican war-on-terror hawks’ raw politics.” An Biden administration official said Nasser’s release is the first step toward “responsibly reducing the detainee population and ultimately closing the Guantánamo Bay detention facility.”
