Day 65.

Shared with permission. Pictures at link~

Day 65. Temp is over 103, still coughing nonstop, blood pressure is still a mess from vascular damage to my veins and inflammation in the arteries (I sometimes have hypertension in one arm and hypotension in the other due to the artery inflammation), still requiring constant oxygen with sats still only in the 80s on oxygen, still too exhausted and short of breath to do more than walk across a room, and still feel awful.

Does anyone know when the “asymptomatic” or “just a flu” parts of COVID-19 kick in? I’m looking forward to those.

I still see so many people who think this is no big deal. People who refuse to wear a mask to protect other people, despite scientific proof it helps. So, maybe you need to SEE what the virus does to someone who isn’t asymptomatic, but gets a severe case and doesn’t die. I’m the high-risk group everyone is willing to lock away in their houses forever and let fend for themselves, or die, for convenience.

So many say, “It’s only the elderly (15% of the U.S. population) or those with underlying conditions (40% of the U.S. population) who get really sick and die.” First, that’s not true. A lot of young and “healthy” people have died and a lot more have been severely ill and now have long-term effects (so no longer “healthy”). Second, even it weren’t false, why are you okay with risking their lives just so you don’t have to wear a mask? Elderly and people with underlying conditions are fellow humans - your friends, your family, your colleagues, your bosses, your kids’ teachers, your neighbors, your fellow church members...

This is what COVID-19 looks like in someone with underlying conditions - aside from the severe diarrhea with the most horrific cramping you can’t even imagine (coming from someone with Crohn’s, this is saying a lot), the severe eye pain, the excruciating headaches, the terrifying shortness of breath where you don’t want to go to sleep because you don’t know if you’ll stop breathing or your oxygen will drop too low and you won’t wake, the nausea and vomiting, the loss of smell and taste, the loss of appetite, the horrible bone and muscle pain, the broken ribs from coughing so much, coughing so hard it makes you vomit, the shortness of breath that is so bad you can’t talk or do anything, the weakness and incredible fatigue that makes it so you can barely walk across a room and sometimes can’t even make yourself pick up your phone because it’s too heavy... aside from all that, here is the visible stuff - when your lips turn purple from lack of oxygen, rashes all over your body from the virus attacking your organs and vascular system, scary-high blood pressures alternating with too-low blood pressures from vascular and artery damage from the virus, your fingers and toes turning colors and being numb from vascular inflammation and blood clots, vein inflammation and limbs changing colors from more vascular inflammation, irregular heartbeat from tachycardia (too fast) to bradycardia (too slow), high temperatures and too-low temperatures, eye inflammation, low oxygen levels that drop even lower every time you do any activity or remove the oxygen at all...

When you refuse to wear a mask in public, when you refuse to practice social distancing, when you think it’s no big deal or just a flu or it doesn’t matter because it’s not as likely to be you... maybe remember that I was a person who worked full-time, lived independently, was restoring a historic house, and a fellow human, but have spent 65 days in bed/on the couch in ‘solitary confinement’ (isolation) and am incredibly lucky to be one of the people who survived to tell about it. Those “underlying conditions” are humans with lives just as important and worthy as yours. Those “elderly people” are our parents and grandparents and friends and family.

When you refuse to wear a mask, you are saying you are okay with doing THIS to everyone you encounter or anyone who is in the same area after you and you are okay with them not being lucky to just suffer through hell, but to also die a horrible death in isolation.

65 days of being this sick. In isolation.

This is the reality of the horror that is COVID-19. Not the asymptomatic people or mild cases. Worry about the ones so many are willing to sacrifice for convenience. This is what will happen to them. Or they will die. Like the 100,000 U.S. citizens who already have.

(Yes, you may share this.)

Trump Argues That He's The Real Victim Of The Coronavirus

Almost 100K dead Americans. Can he be any more disgusting?

Trump Argues That He’s The Real Victim Of The Coronavirus

Trump made the case in a Sunday interview that he is the real victim, not the millions who are sick, and the nearly 100,000 dead from the coronavirus.

Trump said when asked about a Columbia study that tens of thousands of lives could have been saved if he would have acted sooner, “You know, it’s a disgrace what I watch from this fake news media and some of the liberal institutions. Columbia is a disgraceful liberal institution because all the people they cater to were months after me. They said we shouldn’t close it. I took tremendous heat when I banned China from coming in. First time anything like that ever happened. I took tremendous heat. Tremendous. A level that I’ve never seen anything like it and that went on for months. They were criticizing me. Sleepy Joe Biden said I’m xenophobic. Meaning I don’t like people, certain people, and other people said as bad as that or worse, and that was in January. That report. It’s a disgrace that Columbia University would do it. Playing right to their little group of people that tell them what to do.”

https://twitter.com/i/status/1264564368806686726

Nowhere in Trump’s comments did he express any sympathy for the sick, dying, and dead. Other people were not mentioned at all. The coronavirus is all about Donald Trump, and how he has been treated while his neglect killed tens of thousands of Americans.

Any other president would have expressed sympathy and then said something like if we knew then what we know now while defending his administration’s response. Trump is incapable of showing care, concern, empathy, or humanity.

Scoop: Inside the secret talks to overhaul the GOP platform
Jonathan Swan

For the past six months, top Trump campaign officials, reporting to Jared Kushner, have been working on a radical overhaul of the Republican Party platform.

Driving the news: The Trump campaign's Bill Stepien has been leading the process, working with campaign colleagues and the Republican National Committee. As with all significant campaign matters, they've been reporting back to Kushner.

The president's son-in-law and top adviser has told confidants he wants to shrink the GOP's extensive platform of policy beliefs and principles down to a single card that fits in people's pockets. That's a huge change. The 2016 platform runs 58 pages — the product of extensive debate and heated negotiations.

Kushner told colleagues he wanted "something like the 10 principles we believe in," per two sources familiar with his comments. He asked Stepien to find historical examples of Republican platforms that look more like a "mission statement," per a source familiar with one of their meetings.

Another source familiar with the discussions pointed to the GOP platform of 1856 as an example of a platform that is similarly short. The source used this example to argue that the idea of a one-page platform isn't so new or radical after all.

Republicans devote $20m and 50,000 people to efforts to restrict voting

Republicans devote $20m and 50,000 people to efforts to restrict voting

The RNC is seeking people in 15 key states to serve as poll watchers and challenge the registration of voters they believe ineligible

Donald Trump’s campaign and national Republicans are pumping millions of dollars into efforts to restrict voting and aggressively fight Democratic efforts to make it easier to cast a ballot during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Republican National Committee has allocated $20m so far to oppose Democratic lawsuits across the country seeking to expand voting. Republicans are also seeking to recruit up to 50,000 people in 15 key states to serve as poll watchers and challenge the registration of voters they believe are ineligible, according to the New York Times.

The 2020 election will be the first time in nearly three decades that national Republicans will be involved in such a program. After the RNC was sued over intimidating minority voters in New Jersey in the early 1980s, they agreed to a federal court order not to engage in “ballot security” efforts. The order expired in 2018.

Ronna McDaniel, the chair of the RNC, accused Democrats of trying to “destroy” the integrity of elections on a conference call with reporters on Monday. Several studies, however, have shown that voter fraud is exceedingly rare.

The new effort is the latest in a high-stakes battle over voting laws that has shaped the last two decades in US politics. Republicans have consistently supported voting restrictions citing voter fraud. Democrats have pushed to make it easier to vote, saying the focus on voter fraud is just an excuse Republicans use to disenfranchise certain Americans, particularly students and minorities.

“It is a sad commentary on the sorry state of the Republican party that, under Trump, its only hope for winning in November is to try to suppress the vote,” said
Marc Elias, an attorney who is representing Democrats in many of their suits across the country.

The Rude Pundit: Hey, Dumbass Conservatives, We on the Left Want Everything Back to Normal, Too

Hey, Dumbass Conservatives, We on the Left Want Everything Back to Normal, Too

snip//

I want to go out and sit at a dive bar and listen to the rantings of the guy who's just a little drunker than I am. I want to go to a small-venue concert with a bunch of sweaty people who are all jostling each other to get closer to the stage. I want to go see insane theatre in tiny spaces and I want to go see blockbuster movies in giant spaces. I want to go eat at my favorite Indian joints, where the takeout is fine, but, goddamn, it's just so much better right out of the kitchen.

In other words, I want the economy to open up. I don't give a fuck if it gives Donald Trump a boost in the polls. I want to do the shit I like doing.

But I know that if I wanna do the shit I like doing, then I better do the shit I don't like doing first and for long enough. You stop taking your antibiotics before you're supposed to and that fuckin' sinus infection is coming right back.

snip//

It's become another article of Trumpian faith on the right that Democrats don't give a fuck about the economy or jobs, that we don't want everything to open back up because a bad economy hurts Trump or because we want to use the shutdown to convert everything over to socialism or the metric system or to let Hillary run more child sex dungeons or whatever crazy shit Republicans toss out there. One Republican official in Texas went so far as to say coronavirus is a hoax made up by Democrats because we hate Trump so much.

We don't want that, you poor, deluded motherfuckers. We wanna do the shit we like doing, just like you. We're tired of old baseball games and Netflix's latest "Let's exploit mental illness for shits and giggles and subscribers" documentaries. The difference is simple. We don't want to have to open it all up just to shut it all down in the winter when we bumblefuck into a second wave that we should have been preparing for but haven't because President Hydroxy Glow won't do what needs to be done. We want more testing - not just tests available, but more actual testing - and some kind of way to do contact tracing. Except dumbass conservatives start screaming about freedom because Walmart wants them to wear a mask and, oh, shit, you may as well open a concentration camp now.

So, yeah, Democrats don't want to pretend it's all okay when it fucking well isn't. The problem isn't that we want to hurt Trump. It's that Trump is afraid of getting hurt.

These Women Leaders Are Turning Michigan From A 2020 Battleground Into Trump's Worst Nightmare

These Women Leaders Are Turning Michigan From A 2020 Battleground Into Trump’s Worst Nightmare
Seth Cohen

On Tuesday, President Trump visited a Ford plant in Ypsilanti, Michigan and the headlines are all about whether or not he wore a mask. But what was really revealed during Trump’s visit to the Wolverine state is just how much three of its top leaders, all of whom are women, are unnerving the President of United States and turning the 2020 political battleground into his personal nightmare.

For a President who has a well-known reputation for lobbing insults at women leaders, including his 2016 election rival Hillary Clinton, Trump may have finally met his match as he confronts not one, but three, strong Democratic women leaders who aren’t shy about confronting him. In doing so, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Attorney General Dana Nessel and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, are not only getting under the President’s skin, but they are getting the best of him as well.

snip//

The fact that Michigan has three strong women officials who are not only willing to stand up to the President, but also to do so relentlessly, should make us all a bit more optimistic that nobody, especially women leaders, will take our present challenges, and our President, sitting down.

And that is President Trump’s worst nightmare.

Trump Wants To Investigate Social Media For Not Being MAGA Enough

Trump Wants To Investigate Social Media For Not Being MAGA Enough

Donald Trump is on the verge of going full dictator by setting up a panel to investigate social media websites for not being as MAGA as he’d like them to be.

According to The Wall Street Journal, “President Trump is considering establishing a panel to review complaints of anticonservative bias on social media … in a move that would likely draw pushback from technology companies and others.”

The report notes that Trump appears to be ramping up his efforts to police social media in part because the 2020 election is getting closer.

More via The Wall Street Journal:

The plans are still under discussion but could include the establishment of a White House-created commission that would examine allegations of online bias and censorship, these people said. The administration could also encourage similar reviews by federal regulatory agencies, such as the Federal Communications Commission and the Federal Election Commission, they said.

“Left-wing bias in the tech world is a concern that definitely needs to be addressed from our vantage point, and at least exposed [so] that Americans have clear eyes about what we’re dealing with,” a White House official said.

Mr. Trump has long expressed that viewpoint, and in a recent Twitter post indicated that a plan to address complaints of bias is in the works.

It should also come as no surprise that Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz is one of Trump’s strongest allies in the fight to make the internet more MAGA-friendly.

“The president is increasingly aware of the headwinds we face from big-tech bias,” Rep. Gaetz said, according to the report. “There have been very active discussions about what the administration can do with executive action to create a fair marketplace of ideas.”

Trump May Shift Pandemic Response to State Department
May 23, 2020 at 9:49 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

Aides to President Trump are considering a plan to shift the government’s global response to future infectious disease outbreaks to a new unit inside the State Department, Politico reports.

“People familiar with the issue say Dr. Deborah Birx, a top official handling the administration’s response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, is likely to wind up in charge of the new unit if it becomes a reality.”
