cannabis_flower's JournalThanksgiving Magat encounter
Im changing names because I know my friend Brenda wouldnt want me to use her name.
I usually go to my friend Brendas house for Thanksgiving. This year it was just Brenda and I and her 2 adult sons, Jim 36 and Jake 57. Jake lives with his mother Brenda.
We were all in the living room and a news story came on about the Israel-Hamas issue.
Brenda is a fellow Democrat and I realize that even Democrats disagree on this issue. I know its complicated. Hamas is a terrorist organization but I dont believe that we should blame all the Palestinians for the most recent attack. Jake said Israel should just flatten the whole place.
**edit to add*
I sai that Hamas was not the Palestinian people. Brenda said that they were responsible since they voted for Hamas.
We live in Texas. I asked Brenda " If Abbott did something reprehensible, would you say that was OK because Texas voted for him. She responded that she would be moving to another state and the fact that they stayed made them complicit.
My friend said she didnt agree with me but we can agree to disagree and bowed out of the argument and went to the kitchen to cook.
*end edit*
I said most of the people in Palestinian were under 18. I realize that I wasnt quite right , 48% are under 18 so I was almost right.
Jake immediately yelled at me Thats a f*cking lie. "
Then he wanted to know where I got my information. I said I thought it was the BBC. I dont remember.
He was so angry he was spitting when he spoke.
I asked him if he was going to hit me. He said no.
Then he said I was too stupid to even look at. He also called me a b!tch and a c*nt.
I said Then go away. I didnt mean he should leave the house. He has his own big screen TV in his room.
Then he yelled "How dare you tell me to leave. I could throw you out. Its my house. "
I replied that it wasnt his house. Its Brendas house. I told him I would leave if Brenda asked me to.
He said well see about that and went into the kitchen to talk to Brenda.
Next thing I see is Jake talking to Brenda and then Jake comes back and goes up the stairs to his room never to be seen again while I was there.
When I got home I wanted to find some further information about the issue. I think John Oliver came up with the best summary of the issue
Illegal immigration discussion with Canadian
I drive for Uber and has a Canadian passenger and he asked me if the immigration crisis was as bad as the news made it out to be.
My answer: Well, unemployment is sitting somewhere less than 4% and we have stores and restaurants that used to be 24 hours but still can't find enough people to staff being open 24 hours. The people coming are either fleeing violence or looking for a better life.
He commented that he would probably do the same thing if he was in their shoes.
It's my opinion that we need more opportunities for legal immigration, and not be trying to keep people from coming here.
I wonder what Howard Zinn would have said
about the Trump presidency.

?si=bEZzNV-5W5JSC-HzGood news about my 2013 Toyota Camry Hybrid
Well I was feeling all down and out because about 2 weeks ago I was unfortunately caught in a flash flood while driving. I was worried that the insurance wouldnt pay off what I owed on the car.
Today I found out my car was totaled. Im getting enough to pay off the car and actually quite a bit more.
Thank you AllState and thank you Toyota for selling a car that has such a good resale value that the totaled value of my car was only about $500 less than what I financed the car 3 years ago.
I just found out
I just found out that I was given the wrong ballot. I thought my congressman was Dan Crenshaw but the ballot I was given had Sheila Jackson Lee. I would have liked to vote against Dan Crenshaw. Anything I can do? Sheilas district is solid. She doesnt need my vote.
