Sorry, I wish I had not read that.

That was not *the right thing to do.* It was inhumane.

The poem depicts a cold-hearted coward who didn't want inconvenience himself.

Every day in our lives we are faced with decisions, sometimes major decisions.
My husband and I just made a decision, one that does not benefit us but potentially many others. He's a physicist doing medical research who was about to retire at age 75, so this is not hyperbole. He needs and wants to retire but something was discovered, so he's staying on to make sure this big discovery gets out there. We may have to give up moving to a new dream home. Just an hour ago I used the phrase, "it's the right thing to do."

Saving the baby deer was the right thing to do.

Also and somewhat unrelated, unless starving, I cannot understand how hunters can put an animal in their sights and pull the trigger. They can call me an overly sentimental old shit. I probably am.

Tipperary

I apologize. I was harsh and rude. I must relate two true stories...

My hubs and I have gotten criticism from former conservative friends and some family members since we came out of the closet many, many decades ago as being liberal dems.

So, when I announced my pregnancy and ultrasound revealed I was having a boy decades ago, the first words out of my now ex good friend's mouth were, "Congratulations! I'm thrilled. Now, tell me how you'd feel if he announced he were going to marry a black woman."

I swear to the dog she said that!

Then, then, my sister-in-law called from Memphis...wait for it...and said the exact damn thing!!! "What if he wants to marry a black woman?!!"
By the year 2001, we had stopped even speaking to either woman. Hubs forfeited a big inheritance when he told this family to go to hell.

So, this is a personal and sensitive issue for us. I don't miss either of those bigots. I still haven't told any of our extended families or friends living south of us that our son will likely marry his black girlfriend.

Racial attitudes are connected mostly to ignorance but also to geographical norms, sadly.

We still live in the south (Virginia) but at least it has changed - a lot - in the past 40 years. Tennessee is also changing but much more slowly.

🙏

Religions pit groups of people against

Each other.

Early on, small groups fought for territory for their economic survival. Now, they fight for mythological ideologies, i.e. superstitious religions.

The only thing needed for morality is empathy.
And that empathy is usually hardwired until some twisted parenting beats it out of a child.

I could pontificate about theories of the psychological motivations of becoming a Republican and formation of the "Republican personality" but I don't have the time right now. Simply put, I think it's rooted in misplaced anger. Most religions forbid appropriate expression of anger within families.

Edited to add: religion is what allows people to look to a god instead of problem solving for themselves. Ever met a global warming denier who wasn't religious?

And their philosophy of procreation is choking the planet and killing all of us.
But pray to god and he'll save us -phooey.

From Wiki..

Thirteenth Amendment, passed in 1865, had already eliminated almost all persons from the original clause's jurisdiction by banning slavery; the only remaining persons subject to it were those sentenced for a crime to penal servitude, which the amendment excluded from the ban.)

After the Reconstruction Era came to an end in 1877, however, the former slave states subverted the objective of these changes by using various strategies to disenfranchise their black citizens, while obtaining the benefit of apportionment of representatives on the basis of the total populations. These measures effectively gave white Southerners even greater voting power than they had in the antebellum era, inflating the number of Southern Democrats in the House of Representatives as well as the number of votes they could exercise in the Electoral College in the election of the president.

The disenfranchisement of black citizens eventually attracted the attention of Congress, and in 1900 some members proposed stripping the South of seats, related to the number of people who were barred from voting.[11] In the end, Congress did not act to change apportionment, largely because of the power of the Southern bloc. The Southern bloc comprised Southern Democrats voted into office by white voters and constituted a powerful voting bloc in Congress until the 1960s. Their representatives, re-elected repeatedly by one-party states, controlled numerous chairmanships of important committees in both houses on the basis of seniority, giving them control over rules, budgets and important patronage projects, among other issues. Their power allowed them to defeat federal legislation against racial violence and abuses in the South.[12]

Dang!!!!

Yet the buybull has many passages about the rights of slave owners and commandments for slaves. The religious southern states used those to their advantage.

Wow!

My head was spinning following your story. Sounds like a nail-bitting screen play. How does it end...

I had a near missed flight trying to manage my 18month old son by myself while getting to Heathrow on December 21, 1988. Yes, I flew that fateful day.

Glad your trip went well. I'm now perusing pictures of beautiful Bern. The closest I've ever been to that area is Strasbourg.

Per usual, your stories are enthralling.

👍 He's a huge asset in getting the truth out.

Even one of my FauxBot watching neighbors is now "hearing things about TRump and Russia"!! And another one, an asshole I cannot even speak to, has finally, finally taking his fucking TRump sign down.

It working. I don't understand those DUers who are skeptical of Avenatti. He's on the right side of this....and he's getting great PR while getting the truth out. Should we also be skeptical of Ronan Farrow's motives?? I think not.

"Evangelical christianity"

"Slaves, be subject to your masters with all reverence, not only to those who are good and equitable but also to those who are perverse."

Last year a Gallup Poll found "the vast majority of Americans -- 71% -- continue to view the Bible as a holy document, believing it is at least God-inspired if not God's own words."

Stop the Chinese who trade...

...in the ivory of elephants for trophies and carvings and rhino horns for their ineffective aphrodisiac "medicine."

"Chinese merchant gateways for ivory and rhino horns"

"Despite Ban, Rhino Horn Flooding Black Markets Across China

The country is pledged to end the trade in elephant ivory this year, but will it take steps to help save rhinos?"

https://news.nationalgeographic.com/2017/07/wildlife-watch-rhino-horn-china/

The answer is NO!

These are desperate situations, calling for desperate measures. Park rangers protecting these animals are being murdered. They have the right to protect themselves and the dwindling populations of these animals.

A bit OT, but the cruelty of canned hunts also needs to be STOPPED.
As long as Western societies allow and approve of the sick display of hypo-machismo of insecure men trying to compensate for whatever and the sick
sadistic pleasure of some women, such slaughter will continue.
