"George W. Bush: Building The Keystone XL Pipeline Is A ‘No-Brainer’" (well, he should know)

Bush’s comments, courtesy of DeSmogBlog, explained his reasoning for why the Obama administration should approve the Keystone XL pipeline:

“I do think we’re underperforming economically. And I think the reason why is there’s not enough focus on private-sector growth. I think the goal of the country ought to be ‘how do we grow the private sector? That ought to be the laser-focus of any administration. And therefore, once that’s the goal, an issue like Keystone pipeline becomes a no-brainer. If private-sector growth is the goal, and Keystone pipeline creates 20,000 new jobs, build the damn thing.”

Student Attacked During School Meeting About Bullying

Student Attacked During School Meeting About Bullying

By Will Hagle, Mon, November 18, 2013

At a school meeting in Philadelphia that was called to discuss bullying, a student punched another student in the face seven times. In response to the incident, Faruq Robinson has sued the School District of Philadelphia, the School Reform Commission, school principal Annette Gittleman and five other employees, according to Courthouse News. Robinson’s suit is on behalf of his young daughter, Iamani Batista.

Batista has allegedly been bullied since 2011 by a student named Avery Brooks. When a meeting was finally called to address the issue, Brooks attacked Batista.

The official legal complaint states the following: “During the meeting, Avery Brooks was becoming visibly agitated while her behavior was being discussed - shortly thereafter, she got up and went to Imani Batista, and punched her in the head and face approximately seven times; none of the defendants, who were sitting near and next to Avery Brooks, did anything to restrain her prior to or during the attack; defendants had a duty to protect Imani Batista at all times during the meeting, including before the attack and during the attack, by restraining Avery Brooks, as soon as she stood up and approached Imani Batista, rather they sat and viewed Avery Brooks repeatedly punch Imani Batista in her head and face, leaving only her mother to attempt to physically stop the attack.”

At this rate, Republicans won’t be in the WH for at least 12 more years.

The biggest Republican-leaning money machines are spending dramatically less to help the party ahead of the 2014 congressional elections.....

Perhaps it’s because Republicans can’t seem to get through a day without denigrating and alienating the American voter. Republican politicians are still insisting on painting themselves into a ever narrowing political point of view-- falling back upon familiar themes of internal divisiveness.

The Republican gamble was that by denying Obama any support, they would render his presidency wholly partisan at best, and a dysfunctional failure at worst. The Republican gamble failed. It failed for one reason:

The Republican extremist social agenda has been rejected as too far right. Among the most important is a factor Republicans seem to have never reckoned with — their party has never recovered the public’s trust.

All the Republicans have proved is how hopelessly out of touch they are with the economic realities of everyday Americans.

At this rate, Republicans won’t be in the WH for at least 12 more years.

If You Aren't Sure Walmart Needs to Pay Higher Wages, This Photo Will Erase All Doubt

Is Walmart's request of associates to help provide Thanksgiving dinner for co-workers proof of low wages?

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The storage containers are attractively displayed at the Walmart on Atlantic Boulevard in Canton. The bins are lined up in alternating colors of purple and orange. Some sit on tables covered with golden yellow tablecloths. Others peer out from under the tables.

This isn't a merchandise display. It's a food drive - not for the community, but for needy workers.

"Please Donate Food Items Here, so Associates in Need Can Enjoy Thanksgiving Dinner," read signs affixed to the tablecloths.

The food drive tables are tucked away in an employees-only area. They are another element in the backdrop of the public debate about salaries for cashiers, stock clerks and other low-wage positions at Walmart, as workers in Cincinnati and Dayton are scheduled to go on strike Monday.

No, Democrats are not turning against the Affordable Care Act

The Plum Line

No, Democrats are not turning against the Affordable Care Act
BY JONATHAN BERNSTEIN
November 18 at 12:13 pm

.........

.......
no actual Democrats in Congress can be found who are even hinting at anything resembling such a dramatic reversal.

None. There are a handful of House Democrats who have always opposed the law, but beyond them, nada. Zip. Zilch.

Oh, there are plenty of Democrats who want to be on record as opposing the costs of Obamacare while still supporting the benefits. Especially when it’s a safe vote on something that has no chance to become law. That’s the real story behind the 39 House Democrats who voted for GOP Rep. Fred Upton’s “fix” to the law last week.
Sure, these Dems have “distanced themselves” from the law. But what does that really mean? The jump from getting upset at the costs to actually wanting to eliminate the benefits is an enormous one, and Democrats — including Democrats in marginal districts — simply aren’t making it.

What a failed, useless party the GOP is.

FUN FACT- The GOP’s proposed changes to Medicaid are the same ones as in the ACA:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/post/even-if-he-agreed-with-me-he-couldnt-say-so/2011/03/10/ABTL9iV_blog.html

This is all cheap politics and rants from the neo-Confederates on the right who have no solution of their own.

Medicaid has signed up 444,000 people in 10 states in the six weeks since open enrollment began:

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57611885/medicaid-signups-an-early-obamacare-bright-spot/

The ACA and Medicaid work hand in hand. The refusal of GOP governors to expand Medicaid is keeping 5 million people from getting health care.

What a failed, useless party the GOP is.

Mary Cheney: 'I Will Not Be Seeing' My Sister At Christmas

The ongoing feud between former Vice President Dick Cheney's daughters spilled out into the open this weekend after Mary Cheney wrote on Facebook that her sister Liz, a GOP U.S. Senate hopeful in Wyoming, was on the "wrong side of history" on the issue of gay marriage.

"I love Mary very much. I love her family very much," Liz Cheney said Sunday. "This is just an issue on which we disagree."

While their parents are trying to be “as neutral as they can,” Mary told the New York Times, the public spat could create more tension during the holiday season.

The entire family will gather near Jackson Hole in Wyoming, where Liz Cheney currently resides, for Christmas. As for sitting down with her sister, Mary Cheney told the Times, “I will not be seeing her.”
