With the Supreme Court arguing the legality of the Affordable Care Act, it is a good time to remember that almost nobody disputes that single payer, such as Medicare for All, would be undoubtedly constitutional. Even Michael Carvin, one of the lead lawyers arguing (for the non-state private opponents) that the individual mandate is unconstitutional admitted today that single payer would be clearly legal.

Mitt Romney on Jay Leno's show last night:
“People with pre-existing conditions, as long as they have been insured before, they are going to be able to continue to have insurance,” Mr. Romney said. “If they are 45 years old, and they show up and say, ‘I want insurance because I have heart disease,’ it’s like, ‘Hey guys, we can’t play the game like that.’ You’ve got to get insurance when you are well, and then if you get ill, you are going to be covered.”
Romney has no idea how insurance works in America.
The only reason people wouldn't have insurance is if they're cheapskates? Really?

In short, Oliver does not really know Zimmerman very well at all and has no business running around telling anyone who will listen that there's no way Zimmerman is a racist and that Zimmerman killed Trayvon in self defense and has been crying ever since.
In addition, O'Donnell knocked Oliver off balance by telling him that he (O'Donnell) had discovered that Oliver and Zimmerman were once co-workers, which contradicted Oliver's initial claim that they only knew each other via social circles. Oliver really started backpedalling after that revelation. It seemed as though he was surprised to be told himself that he once worked with Zimmerman. In effect, O'Donnell caught Oliver in a lie of omission. I'm not sure why he didn't hammer him on that point because it totally undermined Oliver's credibility.
By Oliver's own admission, he has not even seen Zimmerman since a week or so before the shooting. He talked to Zimmerman by telephone. Therefore, how can Oliver really know Zimmerman's physical condition right now? And why would Oliver, by his own admission, quit his job to go on a PR tour for Zimmerman? This guy seems to be a nutcase glory hound who just wants publicity. When O'Donnell told him what he's doing makes no sense, all Oliver could do was sit there with a weird grin on his face and say he understands that his actions make no sense. Pretty damned strange.
If Joe Oliver is the best Zimmerman and his lawyer can do, Zimmerman is in big trouble.

Romney's negatives hit new high, poll finds

A new poll shows Mitt Romney, who is locked in a prolonged GOP nomination fight, with lagging approval ratings, raising questions about his strength in a likely November match-up with President Obama.
Half of those surveyed hold unfavorable views of the GOP front-runner, a new Washington Post/ABC News poll released Wednesday finds.
In the poll, 50 percent of all surveyed and 52 percent of registered voters held unfavorable opinions of Romney. Thirty-four percent hold positive views on Romney, the lowest for any leading presidential contender in Post/ABC polls dating back to 1984.
The poll also finds that Romney’s unfavorability tops Obama’s highest unfavorability rating in the poll's history.

Reid reacted to CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin’s remark that the healthcare law “looks like it’s going to be struck down” because of the tenor of the morning’s hearing.
“I’ve been in court a lot more than Jeffrey Toobin and I had arguments, federal, circuit, Supreme Court and hundreds of times before trial courts,” Reid said. “And the questions you get from the judges doesn’t mean that’s what’s going to wind up with the opinion.”
Toobin said earlier in the day that the 2010 healthcare reform law, which Reid ushered through the Senate two years ago, was “in grave, grave trouble.”
“I’m telling you, all of the predictions, including mine, that the justices would not have a problem with this law were wrong,” Toobin said on CNN.

What I've read is that Mr. Zimmerman -- who, again, the New York Times refers to as a "white Hispanic" and the rest of the media has now picked that up, 'cause that fits the template. You need white-on-black here to gin this up. I understand. He wants to be a cop. He just loves law enforcement, and he's a self-appointed Neighborhood Watch commander, and he wanted to protect his neighborhood, and he just got a little overzealous and so forth.

It is Not About Race because It Is Never About Race. Race is the past. Black people can vote. One of them is president. Nothing Is About Race anymore. Ask Joe Oliver, this "friend" of the gunman who insists that Zimmerman might have said "fucking goons" and not "fucking coons," because the latter is an obsolete racial slur and the former is a "term of endearment," according to Oliver's daughter. This is enormously believable because, if you're an armed 28-year old gunslinger in pursuit of what you believe is a dangerous burglar, the first descriptive that would leap to anyone's mind is a term of endearment used by high-school girls.
