Pat Robertson: Jesus more likely to stone gays to death than bake them a wedding cake

Televangelist Pat Robertson on Wednesday argued that Jesus would have never baked a wedding cake for LGBT couples because it was more common to stone homosexuals during biblical times.

After a CBN report on a Colorado baker who supported an Arizona bill that would have allowed businesses to discriminate against LGBT couples, Robertson reflected on how Jesus would have responded if a gay couple asked him for a wedding cake.

“I think you’ve got to remember from the Bible, you look carefully at the Bible, what would have happened in Jesus’ time if two men decided they wanted to cohabitate together, they would have been stoned to death,” he explained. “So, Jesus would not have baked them a wedding cake, nor would he he have made them a bed to sleep in because they wouldn’t have been there.”

Planet Biden: Scientists Nickname New Dwarf Planet After The VP

CAITLIN MACNEAL – MARCH 26, 2014, 2:58 PM EDT2309
It seems Planet Hillary may have some competition.

Scientists reported on Wednesday that they have discovered a possible new dwarf planet that orbits the sun beyond Pluto, according to Nature.

The discovery team has named the object "2012 VP113" for now, nicknaming it "VP" or "Biden" for short after Vice President Joe Biden. Scientists won't submit its official name to the International Astronomical Union until they fully understand the dwarf planet's orbit, according to Nature.

Sanders: We’re Living in a ‘Very Ugly Moment in American History’ Because Of Income Inequality

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said we’re living in an “ugly moment in American history” because of income inequality in the country.

..........................

“We have right now in real terms almost 13 percent of our people are unemployed. We have not extended unemployment benefits, long-term unemployment benefits. So you have folks out there now who have virtually no income coming in. They have families. They have kids. How are they going to eat? We have veterans out there who are trying to get into the food stamp program,” Sanders said.

“So to me what you’re looking at is an ugly kind of class warfare where the people on top want more and more and more. And they’re pushing down in an incredibly terrible way the most vulnerable people in our country.”

“Tax breaks to billionaires and cuts to nutrition programs for kids. If a kid does not have enough food to eat, how is that child going to do well in school? He or she is not going do well in school,” he continued.

“So you’re attacking the most vulnerable people in this country. There is a rise in poverty among senior citizens, elderly people. They don’t have enough to eat. What kind of nation are we when we give tax breaks to billionaires, but we can’t take care of the elderly and the children?”

IRS Chief Tells Issa's Oversight Committee to Go Eff Itself

IRS Chief Tells Issa's Oversight Committee to Go Eff Itself
Who knew there was yet another hearing today before Issa's "oversight" committee, regarding the phony baloney IRS scandal? From The Washington Examiner:

IRS commissioner dares House GOP to hold him in contempt over Tea Party

IRS Commissioner John Koskinen told a House panel that congressional investigators can try to hold him in contempt over the Tea Party targeting scandal whenever they think that they can make the charge stick, something he thinks is unlikely.

The topic came up when Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., asked for a date at which it would be appropriate for agency officials to be held in contempt if they have not yet provided the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee with documents that have been requested from the IRS.

"I think the timeline is whenever you think you could actually sustain that in a court," Koskinen replied
. "I think we have a strong case that we have been cooperative, continue to be cooperative, and anybody looking at the systems we have and the time it takes would find that we've provided you more cooperation than, in fact, might be expected. And I think that, in fact, arguing and threatening contempt in that situation without understanding the circumstances is probably not going to be held up."

A woman who, as a newborn, was abandoned as a baby in a Burger King bathroom says she has found her birth mother just three weeks after launching a search that garnered worldwide attention.

.........

Waldron told The Morning Call that the woman said that, as a teenager, she was raped while traveling abroad and became pregnant. The woman said she hid the pregnancy from her parents and, when she gave birth, felt she could not take her newborn to the hospital.

Waldron said the woman recently had launched her own search for the daughter she gave up.

Deprill said her mother expressed regret during their meeting. Deprill said she forgave her "110 percent, absolutely."

Obama SSSSlams Putin: 'Russia Is A Regional Power'

Obama dismisses Russia as ‘regional power’ acting out of weakness

THE HAGUE — President Obama acknowledged Tuesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s annexation of Crimea would be difficult to reverse, but he dismissed Russia as a “regional power” that did not pose a leading security threat to the United States.

Concluding a summit here on nuclear security, Obama also warned that broader Russian military intervention in neighboring countries would trigger further economic sanctions that would disrupt the global economy but hit Russia the hardest.

Snowden's VICTORY LAP-Obama's New NSA Proposals Are A Vindication (Huff-Po)

Glenn Greenwald: Obama's NSA Proposals Are A Vindication Of Our Reporting
The Huffington Post | by Jack Mirkinson

Glenn Greenwald wrote on Tuesday that President Obama's new proposals to overhaul the NSA's bulk collection of phone data are a vindication of Edward Snowden and the journalists who have been reporting on the revelations contained in the documents he provided.

Obama, the New York Times reported, is set to call for an end to the NSA's collection. Under his proposals, phone companies will instead hold the data for 18 months (instead of five years), and the government will only be able to access it with a court order.

Writing on his new website, Greenwald—who has been targeted quite directly for his reporting—said that he would mostly withhold judgment on Obama's proposal until he saw concrete results. But he added that it was a definitive symbol of the effect that Snowden's leaks had had:

As for the substantive reform, the fact that the President is now compelled to pose as an advocate for abolishing this program – the one he and his supporters have spent 10 months hailing – is as potent a vindication of Edward Snowden’s acts and the reporting he enabled. First, a federal court found the program unconstitutional. Then, one of the President’s own panels rejected the NSA’s claim that it was necessary in stopping terrorism, while another explicitly found the program illegal. And now the President himself depicts himself as trying to end it. Whatever test exists for determining whether “unauthorized” disclosures of classified information are justified, Snowden’s revelations pass the test with ease. That President Obama now proclaims the need to end a domestic spying program that would still be a secret in the absence of Snowden’s whistleblowing proves that quite compellingly.

Creationism Is Not Being Ignored On ‘Cosmos’ — Creationists wish Tyson were ignoring creationism.

Creationism Is Not Being Ignored On ‘Cosmos’ — It’s Actually The Focus
BY BETSY PHILLIPS, GUEST CONTRIBUTOR ON MARCH 25, 2014 AT 9:04 AM

Actually, Tyson is deliberately and straightforwardly giving a whole lot of time to creationism. Why did we have to sit through the history of the eyeball? Creationists love to argue that the complexity of the eyeball disproves evolution. Note how he talked specifically about how the eyeball isn’t actually this perfect mechanism, but something that works well enough for what we need it for, but not as well as it does in fish — the whole idea that the eyeball is a perfect, too-complex thing is a creationist argument.

Another example: Why did Tyson spend so much time explaining the similarities and differences in how polar bears have evolved through natural selection vs. how dogs have changed in the time we’ve been breeding them for certain traits? Because creationists acknowledge that changes within species happen. They just like to pretend like one kind of organism couldn’t really have brought forth another kind of organism.

Tyson isn’t ignoring creationism. Creationists wish Tyson were ignoring creationism. Tyson is instead standing on creationism’s home turf and playing by their rules. (Every episode we’ve seen so far has contrasted the Church’s approach to these issues with science’s approach. I’ve read some complaints that Cosmos is too much in love with that old story where everything happens in Europe until white people arrive in the Americas and then some stuff gets to happen here too. But I think that complaint also misunderstands that the history of Christianity as its taught to American Christians is, by and large, that story — everything happens in Europe until some stuff starts to happen here). Tyson is taking creationists’ claims deadly seriously, and showing all the ways they’re wrong.
