Heartbreaking Tribute To Four Boys Killed On Gaza Beach Created By Israeli Artist Amir Schiby

Israeli artist Amir Schiby, known for his politically satirical collages, created an image of Ahed Atef Bakr, Zakaria Ahed Bakr, Mohamed Ramez Bakr, and Ismael Mohamed Bakr, to honor their tragically short lives. It depicts a lone soccer ball in the surf, with the shadows of playing children nearby. He wrote on Facebook that the image was created "as a tribute to all children living in war zones."

Elizabeth Warren Fires Up Netroots Nation: ‘We Will Overturn Hobby Lobby!’

“We believe that students are entitled to get an education without being crushed by debt, and we are willing to fight for it,” she said. “We believe that after a lifetime of work, people are entitled to retire with dignity. And that means protecting social security, Medicare and pensions, and we will fight for them!”

“I can’t believe I have to say this in 2014,” Warren said, echoing a speech she made on the Senate floor earlier in the week. “We believe in equal pay for equal work and we’re willing to fight for it. We believe that equal means equal and that’s true in marriage, it’s true in the workplace, it’s true in all of America.”

Finally, she ended her speech by taking on the recent Supreme Court ruling that gave corporations like Hobby Lobby the right not to cover certain contraceptives for their employees.

“Oh, and we believe that corporations are not people, that women to have a right to their bodies,” she said to escalating cheers. “We will overturn Hobby Lobby and we will fight for it!”

"What the hell, pal?" A letter to the editor from a friend of John Boehner's

Letter to Boehner: What the hell, pal?

OPEN LETTER TO JOHN BOEHNER (in response to op-ed "Obama is trampling the Constitution"

John, I consider you a friend of mine. We've known one another for well over 50 years. Our parents knew each other, were friends and neighbors in Reading. Our family businesses were directly across the street from each other for over 70 years. But John, what the hell are you doing?

You've got nothing more pressing to do than sue a president who was elected twice by the majority of voting Americans?

You say "the majority of Americans are frustrated." I agree, but not with this president. They're frustrated with the childishness of those purporting to serve all the American people.

The majority of Republicans are frustrated. Sure, I get that. But everything shouldn't come to a halt because you don't control the White House. By the way, you better get used to that too. You won't get that back by appealing to Old White Guys.

John, whatever time you've got left in Washington, roll-up your sleeves and get Washington moving in the correct direction. Not this "we block everything you want" and "you block everything we want" mentality.

Now, how about a round of golf at Sharon Woods on Sunday? On me. I'll need 2 a side.

Your pal, Mooch

NBC Correspondent Ayman Mohyeldin Is Returned to Gaza

NBC Correspondent Ayman Mohyeldin Is Returned to Gaza
New York Times
JULY 18, 2014

Only days after NBC removed him from its coverage of the fighting in Gaza, the correspondent Ayman Mohyeldin will be reinstated and sent back into the region, the network said Friday evening.

The decision to pull Mr. Mohyeldin off the story, after he witnessed an Israeli air attack that killed four young Palestinians and then posted remarks on Twitter about it, prompted a round of questions, and much criticism of NBC among Internet commenters. Some accused the network of reacting to pressure from the Israeli side of the conflict. Mr. Mohyeldin is an Egyptian-American who previously worked for the cable news channel Al Jazeera English.

On Friday, NBC declined to give any explanation — official or not — for the sudden decision to send Mr. Mohyeldin back into Gaza. In a statement, NBC said only that its “deployments were constantly reassessed” in the region.Social-networking sites have given reporters in war zones the ability to immediately communicate their experiences. But those communications have also been closely examined by readers looking for bias.

In a Twitter posting on Friday evening Mr. Mohyeldin wrote: “Thanks for all the support. I’m returning to #Gaza to report. Proud of NBC’s continued commitment to cover the #Palestinian side of the story.”

"GAME CHANGER": I think Josh Marshall has it right:

It's true that we don't have all the facts but it certainly appears that ethnic Russian separatists were allowed to get control of military-grade surface to air missiles and were not dissuaded by Putin from taking pot-shots at whatever flies through Eastern Ukrainian airspace. I think Josh Marshall has it right:

Find extremists and hot-heads of the lowest common denominator variety, seed them with weaponry only a few militaries in the world possess - and, well, just see what happens. What could go wrong?

The audio tapes posted by The New York Times might as well be from some future Russia-based version of Waiting for Guffman or Best in Show, a comical rendering of rustics and morons stumbling into an event of vast carnage and international consequence mainly because they're hotheads and idiots - the kind of people no one in their right minds would give world class weaponry to. It's like finding some white supremacist/militia types on their little compound in the inter-Mountain west and giving them world class missile launchers and heavy armaments.

But What About Poor Kids In Our Own Country?

Hilarious Chart ---Considering How Much Airtime Has Been Given To The Cheney Neocon Rehab Tour

This chart is pretty hilarious when you consider how much airtime has been given recently to Dick Cheney and the Neocon Retread Rehab Tour:

GOP Congressman Says Central America Too Dangerous for Congressmen—But Not for Kids

It's safer for them because they aren't important

by digby

So a congressional delegation went to Honduras to see what conditions were for the child refugees in their home country and came back with this:

Congressman Steve Pearce said Wednesday that most immigrants from Central America who are crossing illegally into the United States are driven by economic reasons, not fear of physical danger in their homeland.

Pearce said he and the rest of the House delegation that visited Honduras and Guatemala did not venture from their hotel very often because of the dangers, but the message they received in both countries was consistent: "Send back our children."

Right. It's much too dangerous for God fearing Real Americans to venture out into the streets but little kids are wily and quick and they can slither out of the grasp of the violent criminals who want to kidnap, torture and kill them. Anyway, it's character building.

If it makes the poor Central American parents who sent their kids north in a desperate bid for safety and a chance at life feel any better, these people hate American children too so don't take it too personally.
