For Reuters' headline writer, a democratic vote is a ruction.

Funds eye 'jam tomorrow' in face of Greek ructions
* Sentiment steady despite Greeks voting no to bailout

* Stocks down 1 pct; peripheral spreads 10 bps wider

* Fund houses advise clients take longer-term view

Mr. Trump: "Take care the next time you eat at a restaurant"

Bitter humour is, some say, the only recourse they have. Mauro Tlatengo recalled the 10 years he spent picking grapes, tending golf courses and working construction in California, Pennsylvania and New York, before returning to Mexico voluntarily because he missed his country. Trump’s comments made him angry but mostly, he said, they made him feel powerless.

“He is a crazy idiot who we can’t do anything about,” Tlatengo said. “But we can laugh at him.”

The comedian and filmmaker Eugenio Derbez tapped into this feeling while accepting an award in Los Angeles.

“You are wrong, Mr Trump. We are honest and hardworking people,” he said. “We are also waiters and cooks in all the restaurants of the United States. So take care the next time you eat at a restaurant, because it is possible that you might have to eat your words … and something else.”

"I Welcome Their Hatred!"

FDR: Never before in all our history have these forces been so united against one candidate as they stand today. They are unanimous in their hate for me—and I welcome their hatred.

Germany is the country that has never repaid its debts. It has no standing to lecture other nations.

Piketty: My book recounts the history of income and wealth, including that of nations. What struck me while I was writing is that Germany is really the single best example of a country that, throughout its history, has never repaid its external debt. Neither after the First nor the Second World War. However, it has frequently made other nations pay up, such as after the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, when it demanded massive reparations from France and indeed received them. The French state suffered for decades under this debt. The history of public debt is full of irony. It rarely follows our ideas of order and justice.

ZEIT: But surely we can’t draw the conclusion that we can do no better today?

Piketty: When I hear the Germans say that they maintain a very moral stance about debt and strongly believe that debts must be repaid, then I think: what a huge joke! Germany is the country that has never repaid its debts. It has no standing to lecture other nations.

Oh My - Have You All Seen John Cole's - "Sanders surge" Toon?

A few days ago I opined that certain GOP presidential candidates like Donald Trump, Ben Carson and Ted Cruz had exactly zero chance of securing their party’s nomination in 2016. The same hold true on the other end of the political spectrum, where Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is taking on the well-moneyed juggernaut otherwise known as Hillary Clinton. Sanders’ brand of populist socialism and excoriation of the one-percent is proving quite popular with the Democratic base, though. His recent two-month take of $15 million in contributions and standing-room-only campaign appearances suggest that Hillary’s fore-ordained road to the nomination might well be a bumpy one.

Greece Votes 'No' to Austerity
Sunday, July 5, 2015

Greek voteVoters in Greece resoundingly rejected creditors' demands for more austerity in return for rescue loans Sunday, backing Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, who insisted the vote would give him a stronger hand to reach a better deal. “I applaud the people of Greece for saying ‘no' to more austerity for the the poor, the children, the sick and the elderly," said Sanders in a statement. "In a world of massive wealth and income inequality Europe must support Greece's efforts to build an economy which creates more jobs and income, not more unemployment and suffering."
