NASCAR leaves Trump resort in the dust

NASCAR’s burning rubber away from Trump National Doral in the wake of resort owner Donald Trump’s remarks denigrating people of Mexican descent.
The racing organization announced Friday at Daytona that the Xfinity Series/Camping World Truck Series postseason banquet, held at Trump National Doral Resort for the first time in 2014, wouldn’t return there in 2015. This year’s location had yet to be determined, although the convenience of being in the same city as NASCAR’s annual season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway put the Trump-owned resort in good stead.
“Everything weighs in,” NASCAR spokesman David Higdon told reporters in Daytona, where NASCAR annually races during the July 4 holiday. “We started talking about this early in the week. Given all the attention brought to this matter and how it impacts our partners, sponsors, our teams and our drivers and certainly ourselves, it ultimately was decision made today that we will not being going back there.”
Considering the significant power of sponsors in auto racing, a Friday letter from Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis undoubtedly pushed NASCAR’s accelerator in zooming away from the resort. Lemonis wrote he wouldn’t attend the ceremony if it’s held at a Trump property.

It’s almost impossible to keep anything secret these days – not even the core text of a hyper-secret trade deal, the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA), which has spent the last two years taking shape behind the hermetically sealed doors of highly secure locations around the world.
According to the agreement’s provisional text, the document is supposed to remain confidential and concealed from public view for at least five years after being signed! But now, thanks to WikiLeaks, it has seeped to the surface.

According to the treaty’s Annex on Financial Services, we now know that TiSA would effectively strip signatory governments of all remaining ability to regulate the financial industry in the interest of depositors, small-time investors, or the public at large.

A city councilman in Mobile, Alabama was shocked to discover that he received a horrifically racist letter from one of the “not-racists” who worship the Confederate battle flag. The letter was mailed to Mobile City Councilman Fred Richardson, who posted it to his Facebook page.
“LOVE or HATE: You decide. It came to my office today,” Richardson, who is African-American, wrote. “My personal position is, I love everybody, everywhere, barring none. I’m under orders from God to do so. The umbrella I live under has room for haters.”

Charges possible against Charleston Church shooter’s associates
A joint state and federal investigation into the activities of accused Charleston church shooter Dylann Roof has widened to include other persons of interest, according to multiple sources familiar with the ongoing investigation.
The expanded scope of the investigation now includes people with whom Roof associated in the weeks before the June 17 shootings of nine African-Americans at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, the sources said. Roof, 21, of Columbia, is white.
Although it appears Roof traveled alone to and from Charleston on the day of the killings, it is possible others had some knowledge of what he planned to carry out, said the sources, who are not being identified because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the investigation.
Investigators began to explore how much Roof’s associates knew, and when they knew it, after reviewing his cellphone and computer records, the sources said.
