WSJ reports that Mueller has a new grand jury in DC (Update-Probe Widening to incl financial crimes)

UPDATE: CNN reports Mueller’s probe widening to "possible financial crimes, some unconnected to the 2016 elections.”

One year after the FBI opened an investigation, the probe is now managed by special counsel Robert Mueller. Sources described an investigation that has widened to focus on possible financial crimes, some unconnected to the 2016 elections, alongside the ongoing scrutiny of possible illegal coordination with Russian spy agencies and alleged attempts by President Donald Trump and others to obstruct the FBI investigation. Even investigative leads that have nothing to do with Russia but involve Trump associates are being referred to the special counsel to encourage subjects of the investigation to cooperate, according to two law enforcement sources.

The increased financial focus hasn't gone unnoticed by Trump, who warned Mueller, via an interview with The New York Times, that his financial dealings were a red line that investigators shouldn't cross. But the order establishing the special counsel makes clear Mueller is authorized to investigate any matters that "arose or may arise directly from the investigation."

l Robert Mueller has impaneled a grand jury in Washington to investigate Russia’s interference in the 2016 elections, a sign that his inquiry is growing in intensity and entering a new phase, according to two people familiar with the matter.

The grand jury, which began its work in recent weeks, is a sign that Mr. Mueller’s inquiry is ramping up and that it will likely continue for months. Mr. Mueller is investigating Russia’s efforts to influence the 2016 election and whether President Donald Trump’s campaign or associates colluded with the Kremlin as part of that effort.

A spokesman for Mr. Mueller, Joshua Stueve, declined to comment. Moscow has denied seeking to influence the election, and Mr. Trump has vigorously disputed allegations of collusion. The president has called Mr. Mueller’s inquiry a “witch hunt.”

..........

“This is yet a further sign that there is a long-term, large-scale series of prosecutions being contemplated and being pursued by the special counsel,” said Stephen I. Vladeck, a law professor at the University of Texas. “If there was already a grand jury in Alexandria looking at Flynn, there would be no need to reinvent the wheel for the same guy. This suggests that the investigation is bigger and wider than Flynn, perhaps substantially so.”

Shell Oil CEO stunner: My next car will be electric And he predicts oil demand may peak by 2030.

Peak oil demand can’t be far away when the CEO of one of the world’s largest oil companies says his next car will be an electric vehicle.

Last week, Bloomberg TV asked Ben van Beurden, CEO of Royal Dutch Shell, what the implications of the electric vehicle revolution might be for the oil giant, with countries like the UK and France planning to ban gasoline and diesel cars outright by 2040.

“The next buy I do is my next car, which will be an electric vehicle,” was Van Beurden’s surprise answer. Shell is Europe’s biggest oil company — indeed, its biggest company of any kind — with $272 billion in revenues last year.

A Shell spokesman told Bloomberg the CEO will get a plug-in Mercedes-Benz S500e in September, while the Chief Financial Officer “already drives a BMW i3 electric car.”

I KEEP CONFUSING AYN RAND AND JESUS

MICHAEL HARE

I keep confusing Ayn Rand and Jesus. It’s not cool, I know, but cut me some slack. “Judge not,” as I think Ayn Rand once said.

Being a Republican is tough. Every day, you’ve got to dress up like you work at a Brooks Brothers, check in with the rich guy who tells you what indefensible position you need to defend, then decide what excuse to use to defend it. Jesus did basically the same thing, I think, which is how Christianity got so big. His donors saw how hard he was working for them and were like, “Let’s get this dude an ad buy.”

There are like four things you can say to defend any position on anything. Two of these things are “Jesus” and “Ayn Rand.” “Liberty” is another. “Liberty” is a code word that means less taxes and more guns. Another thing to say is “the United States Constitution.” That really shuts people up. And it doesn’t matter if you don’t understand the Constitution, because no one does.

.......

As I was just exclaiming, Jesus and/or Ayn/Ann Rand, things are crazy lately! First we hated Trump. Now we love him. We love him but pretend we don’t read his tweets. And he pays no attention to us. Every day, we work our asses off trying to come up with things to say to defend all these horrible decisions and policies and bills. We’re like, “I think Jesus would be mellow with us stealing health care from the poor so we can give more money to billionaires, or maybe Ayn/Ann Rand would. Also, liberty. Also, the Constitution.” And then Trump runs his mouth and ruins everything.

But who knows? Maybe I’m the only one who’s confused. And maybe I shouldn’t be so hard on Trump. If I remember correctly, like Trump, Jesus was always doing wild, psychopathic shit. That’s why people loved him and how America got invented.

'My immigrant grandparents couldn't read or write. I have a PhD. That's America'

My "low-skilled" mom picked cotton as a kid and cleaned houses for nearly 30 yrs. I challenge you to do a month of either

When I was a little boy, I kept the fact that my mom worked as a housekeeper from my friends. I was so afraid of being labeled “the poor Mexican kid”. It seemed like the kids at my grade school all lived in big houses and had parents who worked in nice offices. My mom worked cleaning them.

It took growing up for me to finally understand the meaning of the word “dignity”. My mother’s work has never been insignificant to her. It allowed her to support her family and kept her independent after leaving an emotionally abusive husband. Most importantly, she was happy. So why should it have ever been insignificant to me?
