“It was like Braveheart”???

One hospitalized, five arrested after ‘large’ fight at Navy Pier
Posted: 12/27/2014, 02:14am | George Slefo

pregnant female was hospitalized and five people were arrested after a fight Friday night at Navy Pier, officials said.

About 7:45 p.m, officers responded to the disturbance involving about 30 people at the popular tourist destination, police said. Five people were later arrested for reckless conduct, police said.

Fire officials said a pregnant female was taken to a hospital with injuries that weren’t thought to be life-threatening.

No property was damaged and no gunshots were fired, police said.

Kushal Sharma, a Navy Pier worker who sells souvenirs, said he saw about 100 teenagers involved in about eight separate fights.

“It was like Braveheart,” said Sharma, referencing a movie about a medieval war.

LOL: 'The Interview' cut short by power failure at one N.J. theater, report says

A power outage at Allwood Cinemas 6 in Clifton ruined the ending for an audience at a Christmas Day showing, according to NorthJersey.com. The power went out just before the scene in which North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is killed.

Some moviegoers quickly left the theater, but others remained, unsure what to do, according to the report. Eventually, the staff told the audience there was a power outage and they could use their ticket stubs at later showings.

Sony had previously canceled the film's wide release after both the company and movie theaters were threatened by anonymous hackers. Select theaters across the country, including a half-dozen in New Jersey, decided to show the film, starring Seth Rogen and James Franco.

Eager viewers lined up early at some theaters, saying they didn't want to give into the hackers, regardless of whether the movie is good.

Q: Is it true that George W. Bush took more vacation days than Barack Obama? A: Yes.

Q: Is it true that George W. Bush took more vacation days than Barack Obama?

A: Yes. Before his two-week trip to Martha’s Vineyard in August, Obama’s count was 125 full or partial days and Bush’s total at the same point in his presidency was 407.

That's 13 months the White House press corps spent away from home attending to George W. Bush at the same point in his presidency. 13 months away from their kids, most of it spent in that hellhole at Crawford Texas.

And that's not all:

We last dealt with the who-took-more-vacation question in January 2010, at which point Obama had spent 26 days on “vacation” during his first year in office, fewer than the first year totals for Presidents Bush, George H.W. Bush or Ronald Reagan...

Bush’s total for his two terms in office is 533 days, which includes 490 at the ranch and the rest at Kennebunkport. For comparison’s sake, President Bill Clinton’s total is 174 days, and Reagan hit 390 (349 at his ranch and 41 in Palm Springs), according to Knoller.

Adding in Camp David visits would bring Obama’s total to date to 223 (that’s 83 days at Camp David) and Bush’s total for his entire time in office to 1,024 (491 days at the presidential retreat). Note that Obama still has more than two years in office to narrow the gap.

That's nearly 3 years the press corps spent with Bush on vacation during the 8 years of the Bush administration

Jeb Bush’s dirty money-making activities profited from Obamacare

I can’t help but get a chuckle out of this. In normal times, Bush would have left Tenet because it’s a big, soulless corporation that’s paid fines for Medicare fraud and been criticized for dodgy tax practices at the same time it was beefing up executive pay. A man of the people who aspires to the Oval Office can’t afford to be associated with this kind of dirty money.

But no. At least if Politico is to be believed, this isn’t really an issue in the GOP primary. What is an issue is that Tenet might have profited from Obamacare, which in turn means that Jeb may have profited from Obamacare. Even if it’s a double bank shot, that’s dirty money in tea party land.

LEAKED: Secret Negotiations to Let Big Brother Go Global

The ugly ramifications of the Trade in Services Act (TiSA)

by Don Quijones

December 25, 2014

By Don Quijones, freelance writer, translator in Barcelona, Spain, and editor at WOLF STREET. Mexico is his country-in-law. Raging Bull-Shit is his modest attempt to scrub away the lathers of soft soap peddled by political and business leaders and their loyal mainstream media.

Much has been written, at least in the alternative media, about the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), two multilateral trade treaties being negotiated between the representatives of dozens of national governments and armies of corporate lawyers and lobbyists (on which you can read more here, here and here). However, much less is known about the decidedly more secretive Trade in Services Act (TiSA), which involves more countries than either of the other two.

At least until now, that is. Thanks to a leaked document jointly published by the Associated Whistleblowing Press and Filtrala, the potential ramifications of the treaty being hashed out behind hermetically sealed doors in Geneva are finally seeping out into the public arena.

If signed, the treaty would affect all services ranging from electronic transactions and data flow, to veterinary and architecture services. It would almost certainly open the floodgates to the final wave of privatization of public services, including the provision of healthcare, education and water. Meanwhile, already privatized companies would be prevented from a re-transfer to the public sector by a so-called barring “ratchet clause” – even if the privatization failed.

.......

The leaked documents confirm our worst fears that TiSA is being used to further the interests of some of the largest corporations on earth (…) Negotiation of unrestricted data movement, internet neutrality and how electronic signatures can be used strike at the heart of individuals’ rights. Governments must come clean about what they are negotiating in these secret trade deals.

Alzheimer’s Disease Reversed For the First Time

Alzheimer's disease (AD) affects more than 5 million Americans; worldwide, it affects more than 30 million people. It is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States, after heart disease, cancers, chronic lower respiratory diseases, stroke and accidents.

In a recently published paper, Dale Bredesen at the Buck Institute showed that 9 of 10 patients participating in a program showed reversal of cognitive impairment associated with Alzheimer’s disease. Six of the 10 study participants had had to leave work, or were struggling at their jobs, due to AD; after going through the program, all were able to return to work or to continue working at better performance levels.

This is the first time time that anyone has shown it possible to reverse memory loss associated with Alzheimer’s – so much so that 6 of the 10 patients who had left work or were struggling due to memory impairment were able to return to work or to keep working with improved performance.

To quote from the Abstract:

The first 10 patients who have utilized this program include patients with memory loss associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD), amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI), or subjective cognitive impairment (SCI). Nine of the 10 displayed subjective or objective improvement in cognition beginning within 3-6 months, with the one failure being a patient with very late stage AD. Six of the patients had had to discontinue working or were struggling with their jobs at the time of presentation, and all were able to return to work or continue working with improved performance. Improvements have been sustained, and at this time the longest patient follow-up is two and one-half years from initial treatment, with sustained and marked improvement. These results suggest that a larger, more extensive trial of this therapeutic program is warranted. The results also suggest that, at least early in the course, cognitive decline may be driven in large part by metabolic processes.
