New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy announces a 90-day grace period on mortgage payments

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/28/new-jersey-gov-phil-murphy-announces-90-day-grace-period-on-mortgages.html

New Jersey homeowners whose finances have been affected by the novel coronavirus will get a 90-day reprieve on their mortgage payments, said Gov. Phil Murphy on Saturday.

Lenders will also waive late fees and other expenses that borrowers would otherwise incur due to the grace period, Murphy announced in a tweet.

The banks are offering a mortgage payment forbearance of up to 90 days for COVID-19 related reasons. In a forbearance, mortgage holders can pause or reduce the amount they pay each month for a specified period of time.

'Don't come here': Governor authorizes checkpoints at state lines to keep travelers from COVID-19...

https://www.fox35orlando.com/news/dont-come-here-governor-authorizes-checkpoints-at-state-lines-to-keep-travelers-from-covid-19-epicenters-out

TALLAHASSEE - Gov. Ron DeSantis said Friday he is adding New Orleans and other areas of Louisiana to a list of COVID-19 hotspots, requiring travelers from the state to self-isolate if they come to Florida.

snip

To enforce the Louisiana restrictions, DeSantis said he would authorize the Florida Highway Patrol and local enforcement agencies to establish checkpoints at Florida entry areas along roads such as Interstate 10. DeSantis said the restrictions would not affect commercial drivers.

“There is a fear that as New Orleans becomes more of a hotspot, you could have an influx of people into the Florida Panhandle from Louisiana,” DeSantis said.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards said he doesn't want his state's residents on the roads.

OMG....how stupid and cowardly! He really thinks he can stop motorists on I-10 ?? And he won't order stay-at-home for his OWN state of Florida ?

Jesus.

Young Ohio siblings stage cello concert for elderly neighbor self-quarantined over coronavirus

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/coronavirus-ohio-siblings-play-cello-elderly-neighbor-self-quarantined/?linkId=85224735

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, social distancing and the shutdown of schools, restaurants and bars has led to a huge disruption of American life. Two cello-playing Ohio siblings forged a genuine human connection during the period of isolation when they cheered up an elderly neighbor who said she had not left her house "for the last five days."

Helena Schlam, a 78-year-old Columbus, Ohio resident living on her own, had self-quarantined and limited herself to her home and backyard, CBS News' Vladimir Duthiers reports. She refused an offer from her neighbor, Rebecca Tien, who asked if Schlam needed groceries picked up.

Looking for other ways to help her isolated neighbor, Tien turned to her children, 9-year-old Taran and 6-year-old Calliope. The pair was told by their cello instructor to practice "virtual concerts" at home in order to adhere to social distancing.

"Helena really loves music, so I asked if the kids could come to the porch," Tien said.

The rest of the poll makes sense, but the number for African-Americans seems high.

hi New York DU'ers, a question about your Governor Cuomo

I know very little about him. However, his recent performance with the virus has impressed me.

Question: Is there any way he could be elected President in the future ? According to this article, right now he is not interested.

As I said, I know very little about him after reading his Wikipedia entry. Thanks for your time.

IRS page for Coronavirus payments

https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus

My understanding is if the IRS has your bank account information, you can get a direct deposit of the assistance. I read the direct deposits will occur in 3 to 4 weeks after they begin issuing them.

Otherwise, it will take weeks to get a paper check (3 to 4 months is what I read).

Seminole issues own order to limit capacity in businesses, forces 6 foot distance between people

https://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/seminole-county/os-ne-coronavirus-seminole-county-cdc-guidelines-20200327-nn377vdbobhibhfyp4hm5aggei-story.html

A day after Seminole officials said they would not impose a stay-at-home order as Orange and Osceola counties did this week, they instead moved forward with tough new restrictions that would limit capacity in grocery stores and break up large gatherings of more than 10 people.

Starting Monday, businesses will have to require that employees and customers stand at least 6 feet apart, a distance recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as a way of slowing the growing number of coronavirus cases.

Hair salons, massage parlors and tattoo shops will be required to close, officials said.

Seminole Commission Chairman Jay Zembower insisted the restrictions did not amount to a “stay-at-home” order one day after the county held a press conference to reject calls for such a measure from officials in Orange and Osceola counties and Orlando.

Show Me The Relief Money – No Promises On When Coronavirus Checks Are Coming

https://www.npr.org/2020/03/26/822224393/show-me-the-relief-money-no-promises-on-when-coronavirus-checks-are-coming

How soon can I expect my check?

"It really depends on what information the IRS has on you," Kyle Pomerleau, a resident fellow at the right-leaning American Enterprise Institute, told NPR.

That's because the infusion of cash will be distributed by the IRS, so those who have previously received tax refunds via direct deposit will be first in line for the rebate checks. Pomerleau, estimates the earliest those payments will go out is three to four weeks after the package is approved.

Alternatively, people who receive tax refunds through the mail will have to hold out much longer.

"I don't think physical checks will be in the mail for another three to four months," Pomerleau said, citing delays in the system in 2008 when the government last issued national stimulus payments under the George W. Bush administration.

Does anyone else think 3 to 4 weeks up to 3-4 months is acceptable ? How many lower-income/gig workers can exist 4 weeks with no income ?

Congress needs to speed this up as much as humanly possible.

Americans should start getting checks within three weeks, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Thursday. By comparison, the IRS took three months to distribute checks in 2009 to battle the Great Recession.

Some experts say that because of budget cuts and "obsolete technology," the IRS would need months, not weeks, to send out payments.

"I don't think any of the policymakers have given any thought to the practical implications of actually doing this. The IRS doesn't have the resources to do it," Howard Gleckman, a senior analyst at the Urban Institute's Tax Policy Center, told Reuters.

Mnuchin sounds overly optimistic, no surprise.
